Unbeatable Performance for the Price Tag it offers!
by nkdv5 on March 25, 2011
Pros: 1. Compact Satellites, Well Designed Woofer Unit.
2. The mids, Highs and Lows are really well reproduced. Bass in particular doesn't jarr and sounds clean and strong, which is a really a job well done by the manufacturers.
3. Excellent for listening to muCons: 1. The design is simple and ordinary (the woofer unit is good looking though) and its a 50-50 as some might like and equally dislike the design.
2. Decently Loud, but don't expect anything extreme.
3. No controls for balance, bass, treble, although thereSummary: Design: The satellites are designed decently, but its the woofer that catches my eye - I used to keep the sub-woofer out of sight for my earlier sets, but I ...
Summary: Design: The satellites are designed decently, but its the woofer that catches my eye - I used to keep the sub-woofer out of sight for my earlier sets, but I find it hard to do the same for this one! The air-outlet is really well contoured, which is something almost all manufacturers overlook to cut down prices - which is sad because an irregular outlet hinders airflow in and out of the bass unit, which means bad sound and bad bass. This one's is perfectly round and gradually contoured inwards- you have to see it to know what I mean. The set is very well built and durable - actually dropped it a couple of times and nothing chipped so far, not a scratch either!
Performance: The sounds this little set can produce are literally mind-blowing. Lows, Mids and Highs are very very well reproduced - if you use high-quality music files at CD quality you'll know what I mean; it does justice to the music. Obviously, you can't compare it with audiophile sets which reproduce almost Everything to perfection, but this set does an excellent job at giving you distinct clear sounds that are a treat for the ears. You'll never tire of the sounds you hear. I played a few tracks, Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton ; Apologize (Remix) - OneRepublic ; Broken/You & Me - Lifehouse ; Club Can't Handle Me - Flo Rida ; Body Language - Jesse McCartney/T-Pain and a lot more from different genres, all in FLAC format or 320kbps mp3. R&B, Hip-Hop and songs with strong beats sound best on this system owing to the ample bass, and treble-oriented tracks sound good too, although not as good as bass sounds. Guitars sound great though. All in all, great frequency response!
That said, gaming performance is good too. I ran CoD, GTA, Pro Evolution Soccer, NFS, WarCraft for variety and I wasn't disappointed one bit after the way it played music. Explosions and Gunfire sound realistic, direction-oriented, and voices equally good. Engine/Car Sounds in NFS and BurnOut are amazing, all thanks to the strong bass. Make sure you toggle up audio quality to highest in-game to get the best out of the set.
Movies run well too, since as I mentioned earlier Explosions sound good (thank the subwoofers great bass), but this too is a factor that depends on the quality of your media - if you're playing low-res, low-bitrate media don't judge ANY speaker for that matter. I ran some HD movies and Blu-ray movies, like Wall-E, Saving Private Ryan, The Hangover, Robin Hood and they all sounded great, but this is just a 2.1 system so don't expect the kind of treats true surround sound 5.1 or 7.1 systems give you. Also, if you have a decent soundcard on your system expect this set to live upto your expectations.
When you're playing Music/Movies on your set, be sure to fiddle around a bit with the equalizer settings on your media player. (A little bit of Bass-boost sounds great) The default settings are good enough if you don't want to touch them, mind you.
Also, you might want to do a bit of experimenting with speaker placement to get the best out of them and your immediate environment. If you're the lazy type ;) then googling definitely helps!!
Price-wise, I can't believe this set sells so cheap. Sheer value for money, even so because this set sounds WAY better than 2.1 sets out there in the market that cost 3 times its price. Buy this set by all means, don't hesitate. Its sheer value and great sound, and you really can't ask for more from Altec Lansing than this gem of a package. Even if you have the cash for a set double/triple the cost of this one, I suggest you JUST buy this and use the extra cash to buy yourself a decent soundcard, or other parts like RAM, a Hard Drive (for more music/movies/games!), a Graphic card for HD media, or simply a wireless keyboard/mouse combo for your movie watching sessions.
Verdict: It doesn't get any better than this. Altec Lansing gives you an amazing set for a price that looks unbelievable once you hear this set perform. Don't even think twice before buying it if you're in the market for a low-cost speaker that performs well at gaming, music or movies. Trust me you won't be disappointed; even if you're an audiophile you'll definitely applaud the effort the VS2621 puts in. Just go get it, plug in, and the rest shall follow!1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Sound!
by Slapjo on December 10, 2011
Pros: Full spectrum sound! The Bass is very good! Also the mids and highs are also very well produced!
Cons: There is no knob to control the amount of bass/treble. Also the power switch is on the back of the subwoofer.
Summary: Overall I'm very impressed with this system! The sound is full and rich. You can't go wrong with this unit!

by upsguys on January 3, 2011
Pros: Very clean highs and lows for the price!
Cons: Doesn't have too much range in term of loudness, but great for my classroom.

I agree: great speakers for that price!!
by Readerguy on March 7, 2010
Pros: Great, clean sound. Plenty of bass, mids, and highs--everything comes through fine. Adjust your media player's equalizer to taste and you should be happy.
Cons: Like the other reviewer said, could be a problem in tight spaces for moving the small speakers around. But don't most speakers in this range have the same problem? Don't know...
Summary: I can't think of why anyone would be unsatisfied with these computer speakers for this price. The guys at my local owner-operated computer store recommended these without hesitation. I'...

Can't beat them for the price.
by ckcotto on February 18, 2010
Pros: Excellent Sound, rich bass and clear high frequencies.
Cons: Little Cheap looking, can not detach speakers from wire that connects them (therefore you can not run wire in spaces/ through holes smaller then the speaker). The line level cord that attaches satellite speakers to sub does remove though.
Summary: Bought these as a work speakers. Listen primarily to steaming radio (128k) and MP3's. They sound fantastic. They are not audiophile quality by any means but if you have ...
Summary: Bought these as a work speakers. Listen primarily to steaming radio (128k) and MP3's. They sound fantastic. They are not audiophile quality by any means but if you have decent sound card you should be very satisfied. Great frequency response and are very capable of producing nice clean loud music. Headphone jack on front of control speaker could be very useful as well. Been using for about a week and they seem to be getting a little more impressive now that they are broken in. No reason to spend more $$ then these cost (about $50).
