Not for critical listening

Summary: Sorry to disagree with the majority of reviews and Cnet. These are terrible speakers for any kind of music. There is no mide range at all. Just a booming base and high high's-nothing in between! This makes for a very hollow and cold sound. I am not a gamer, they may be great for games. At any rate, lets be real here. For $150 bucks your not going to get anything that approaches truly full sound. To put it another way, these speakers are tedious to listen to, there very "heavy" I just cant understand, for the life of me, this great love affair with this junk!

Summary: First off I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile by any means. My previous equipment was a simple set of bookshelf speakers from aperion audio (www.aperionaudio.com) driven by an entry level Sony receiver. I started looking for something new to go with my computer when my receiver went dead. Wanting to save a bit of space and having a need for my bookshelf speakers elsewhere, I started looking into computer speaker sets instead of a new receiver. Reading all the reviews (here and elsewhere) about the Z-2300's and their "rich, clear" sound, and how they rival much more expensive home theather setups I bought them without listening first. BIG MISTAKE.
The whole life of any music lies in its midtones and it's exactly that range where you'll hear a big hole in the sound produced by these speakers. The subwoofer sure can thump and put out a pretty pleasing low end and the upper end clarity of the satellites is decent. But the whole midrange is totally missing resulting in an parabolic sound reproduction. Basically, there's very little fullness to the sound. The speakers sound just like they look: small, plasticy and thin coupled with heavy bass. I guess that a lot of people can overhear that and mistake the loud volume and heavy bass from the subwoofer with a rich sound. Yeah it's deep and loud, but there's a whole lot of sound info in there that's just not being heard!
I did try very hard to EQ these to a decent midtone reproduction without avail. They just don't move enough air to give you those tones. It sounds like I'm listening to the speakers in a tin can. I even played a variety of music from deep house tunes to Norah Jones. Nothing ever sounded right. I sent these back to the dealer after 24 hours of frustration and disappointment (and at about a $50 loss with shipping and restocking fees.)
I do recognize that it's a bit unfair to compare bookshelf speakers (at about $360 a pair) to a $100 set of satellite+sub. But reading these reviews you'd think the Logitech's were just totally awesome...ready to take on any other setup. Don't get your hopes up. If you're looking to upgrade from a set of el-cheapo speakers that came with your computer these are sure to sound better. But if you're looking for something with any decent midrange a set of bookshelf speakers (I totally love my Aperions...but I bet you can do quite well with even cheaper...These are NOT considered high-end speakers) will serve you better.39 out of 45 users found this user opinion helpful.

It's no Z2200!
Pros: Nice subwoofer. Smooth, wide range bass.
Cons: As far as I can see, the only thing that Logitech "improved" with the design changes to this model is their profit margin! The subwoofer remains the same as the z2200, but the satellites have been downgraded to an absurd degree! They downsized the driver

Summary: After reading some of the negative reviews on this site, I wasnt sure I wanted to purchase these speakers. But the number of positive reviews greatly exceeded that of the negative so I went ahead and ordered them online. After recieving these and testing various types of music on them I can say I am greatly satisfied. I was really surprised at how loud these speakers actually get, I really couldnt turn them up more than 3/4th of the way without rattling stuff off my shelves. Some reviewers mention a lack of midtone definition but I cannot notice any lack of performance in sound quaility. I was actually pretty inpressed with the sound they produce considering they only cost me $85. The bass is just amazing, loud, and clear. The sattelites, although small and sleek, produce very big sound as well and are not overpowered by the massive subwoofer. The overall look of the system is very clean modern, and elegant. For the space they take up these speakers can easily fill a great multiple of that with clear, clean, distortion free, excellent sound. I would say for under $100 there are no better speakers you can buy. Almost every aspect of this set surpassed my expectations. If you are concerned about reviews questioning its sound quality, either spend a whole lot more for slighlty better sounding music, or buy these which may I remind you are THX certified for under $100. By far the best in its price range and over, and then some.

Summary: I bought these last week for $159 based on the review. I bought a new desk and had to replace my 5.1 system speakers mounted in a front/back surround thingamajig I had because it would'nt work with the new desk. I was surprised at the sound with music - somehting is definitely missing - ahh the midtone sounds. I am trying to tweak the sound but they will go back if I cannot get it right. Movies, Voice, and everything else sounds ok. Music is truly poor sounding though.

I went out this evening comparing speaker systems. What I concluded was that the Logitech Z-2300 I bought truly has the best bass and highs of any of the speaker sets in the store. I was unable to compare in the other store - they did not have Z-2300 speakers. The harmon sound sticks had great sound but medium volume level and lighter bass were the trade-off. I think it is down to Klipsch and these and the price winner is the Logitech. I also noticed that in the store the speakers have sound effects playing and bass rhythmic clips - not vocal music.9 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I think that they don't cost enough for the power they give. They produce great sound and what I like- very strong bass. But I'm very annoyed because of the short wires leading from the sub. All wires lead from the subwoofer, so you don't have a lot of options where to place it. I also think that the sub could have a lower frequency response (at least 30Hz!). Anyway, I enjoy kicking them into max volume and first with the previous speakers only my family hated me, but now my neighbours do so! Great!

I was thinking to buy the Logitech's Z-5500, but I quickly changed my mind. I'm a big fan of deeep bass and they don't seem to give it. If anyone isn't happy with the mids- every PC has an equalizer (if you know how to use it). But note this; they're for listening at very high volume! If you listen at low volume, the left and right speakers don't seem to output the same sound. The sub doesn't deliver deep bass, but it's very loud and powerful (120W!!)Updated

Summary: I own the Z-2200 speaker system, also from Logitech, and when the Z-2300s are compared to the Z-2200, it's imbarrasing. It might be the fact that I have not "broken in" the 2300s; however, from my first impressions, after about 10 hours of listening, the Z-2300s are definately a leap back from the Z-2200s. First, I have noticed that the enclosure for the Z-2300 satelites are ALL PLASTIC - everything from the stand to the case. They are also not wall mountable. Second, the speaker cone of the Z-2300s are a 1/2" smaller than the 2200s. As a result, I've noticed less "richness" or "fullness". The mid-range just isn't there as much anymore. The highs are okay, but not great. Also, to get the same sound on my 2300s as to the 2200s, I have to turn the volume knob at least 10% more on the 2300s. The weight of the satelite has also significantly decreased compared to the 2200.
I feel the bass is a little more punchy though, on the 2300. It's tighter and somewhat louder. But again, I feel it's a step back from the 2200s due to the design. I feel the sub of the 2300 is more plasticy/cheap. But it's OK.
If you're choosing between the 2200s and the 2300s, definately go for the 2200s. Even if it seems like you're getting an older/outdated model, I can assure you that you're not. Stick with your 2200s. If you plan on upgrading your 2200s to the 2300s, don't.

Summary: After reading all the reviews and hypes about this system, I compared these with the Altec Lansing MX5021, these sounded not much different at low to mid volume compared to my old Z-340 system: powerful boomy sub, but lower-toned highs and mids making it good for movies and beat oriented music, but I was disappointed with how it was tuned for great bass but not how the real sound should be reproduced. Although Altec Lansing doesn't seem that impressive in terms of power in comparison, but the sound quality was just superior to these, and it is still powerful enough to make your room rattle and more without any distortion. I'm glad I went with the Altec Lansing, but if club mixes or any beat oriented music is your flavor, Z2300 is for you, with all the tones lowered, you'll feel stronger beats.

Pros: HUGE SUB! Crystal clear sound, easy install, connects to just about anything with the red and white wires, very sweet design and colors (look nice with my sony flat panel and my logitech keyboard)

These truly are brillant speakers. I'm only disappointed that anything past 2.1 are $100+ and I really wanted something more, but I can't chuck over that much. I would recommend a good sound card, I got an Audigy2 ZS by Creative. Still only complaint is Sub is to heavy, but honestly... how often will you move it around?
