- Bottom Line:
- Logitech's Z323 speakers project adequate sound at low levels, but if you turn up the volume, the audio has an unacceptable lack of clarity and severely distorted bass. We recommend that you stay away from these speakers and spend an extra $10 on the Logitech Z523, one of the best speaker-plus-subwoofer systems in its price class.

Logitech Z323 speaker system price range: $49.99 - $69.95

The good: Generous two-year warranty; RCA inputs lets you connect external audio sources.
The bad: Subwoofer is prone to distortion, even at half power; 3.5mm audio cable not included; unprotected drivers.
The bottom line: Logitech's Z323 speakers project adequate sound at low levels, but if you turn up the volume, the audio has an unacceptable lack of clarity and severely distorted bass. We recommend that you stay away from these speakers and spend an extra $10 on the Logitech Z523, one of the best speaker-plus-subwoofer systems in its price class.
The $70 Logitech's Z323 is one of four speaker sets the company has recently released that include a subwoofer. The three-piece 2.1 speaker system also has Logitech's "360-degree sound" feature that uses two tweeters mounted on the front and back panels to project sound in all directions. Unfortunately, the speakers sound flat and lack low-end audio, even with the adjustable bass turned up.
The subwoofer makes a significant rattle even at low levels. This indicates that the sub lacks power and has a hollow spectrum of sound. We recommend staying away from the Z323 and spending the extra $10 for the Logitech Speaker Z523, another three-piece speaker set that has richer sound.
At 7.9 inches tall by 3.4 inches wide by 5.3 inches deep, the two satellite speakers are small enough to fit on a desk and take up little space. Its long cord connects to a 4-inch subwoofer that you can tuck under a desk and out of the way. The satellites design doesn't blow us away. The glossy black exterior attracts fingerprints and dust, and Logitech didn't give it mesh faceplates to protect the two delicate drivers.
The satellites have a curved design that angle them up into the air, which adds to the pseudo surround-sound experience because of the forward- and rear-facing drivers.
The speakers also have a clean design with a single power knob on the bottom of the right satellite. The right satellite also has two 3.5mm ports: one for connecting headphones and one for connecting an auxiliary audio source. It also has wire with a 3.5mm jack that plugs into your computer. If you plan to use the Z323 speakers with a home theater system, Logitech includes a handy RCA port on the back of the subwoofer.
According to Logitech, the Z323 speakers rated only 10 watts less than the Z523 set, but the difference is noticeable. We connected the speakers to a laptop, an iPhone, and a receiver. In each test, we found that the speakers lack audio clarity and have severe bass reverberation that one Amazon user review equates to "being hit by a hollow funnel bat."
The downward-firing subwoofer couldn't handle many of the tracks we threw at it. We had to lower the bass level to more than halfway to stop the annoying rattling when we listened to on Lady Gaga's thumping dance tracks. We also heard the same type of bass bleeding from the audio in the "King Kong" DVD, leading us to recommend these speakers to the small subset of media hounds who prefer their volume at very, very low levels. For everyone else, we don't think constantly having to adjust the speakers to find that perfect compromise of adequate bass and treble is worth the $70.

This is a very good Hard Rock computer speaker system
by LesPaulCustom79 on May 28, 2011
Pros: 1. The side speakers with the front and rear loaded speakers give more headroom and openess to the sound.
2. The ports on the side speakers add some low-end to the midrange, which is great for Rock'n'Roll.
3. The downward loaded and ported subwoofer haCons: 1. This is a perfect speaker system for Hard Rock, very midrange oriented but for some music, such as hip-hop, rap it does not have the bass to rattle your teeth.
2. This speaker system may not be detail enough for those that like to listen to classicalSummary: For the money at $69.95 and under $150, I think this is the best 2.1 speaker system on the market. If you want more bass, buy a 5....
Summary: For the money at $69.95 and under $150, I think this is the best 2.1 speaker system on the market. If you want more bass, buy a 5.1 surround system with a larger subwoofer at $150 on up. I bought a more expensive 2.1 system from a competitor that cost $20 more, took it back the next day and got this system.

Mediocre Sound, But Better Than 80% of Competition
Pros: Small, easy to setup/install, 360 Degree Sound as advertised, good stereo effect. Multiple outputs for many applications including 1 RCA input for TV.
Cons: Weak bass for bass lovers, mid range heavy (and lacking in clean highs), not the best looking satellites. Hard wired.
Summary: I have had this product for about 4-5 months now and got it as a warranty replacement for my previous Logitech X-230 system. I was very happy with that system ...
Summary: I have had this product for about 4-5 months now and got it as a warranty replacement for my previous Logitech X-230 system. I was very happy with that system - it had better looking sattelites and two drivers per satellite instead of one. The bass was also much more powerful with a 5.25" sub instead of a 4" sub. Needless to say, if you don't like too much bass or live in a small appartment, it should be about enough. But do not expect this to function as a party system replacement.
However if you do need PC speakers to replace the OEM speakers on a laptop or to use with a game console and if you are on a tight budget, this is something to potentially consider. -
Totally fills the room with sound! Just awesome!
by joanitar on April 26, 2011
Pros: 5 min set up. good price. sleek design, lotsa bass for my hip-hop, rap, dance, & techno!
Cons: Power/volume controler needs some velcro, it keeps sliding around on my desk .... maybe I should turn the bass down ....? LOL!
Summary: This is just an "average Joe" review ....I'm not an "audiophile", but I know how I like my music ... Loud!

This system sounds 100% better than the old KOSS Speakers I had with taped-down buttons!
Heard this system @ a friends house, and was so impressed I ordered it next day straight from Logitech online, with free shipping (!), and received it within 2 days. Price was ok, even in CAN $$$.
System is setup in office, but @ full volume it was still audible through out the whole house, including the basement!
If you want to feel "loud" in a small room, this system does the trick. Any louder and ya'd need earmuffs .... and a seat-belt!
Try it, you like it, you keep it, you don't like it, exchange it ... real simple!
But I'm keeping mine, thank you! -
For $54.99? NO!!! but for $39.99... a DEFINITE YES!!!

Pros: 1) Great replacement for the cheap, stock speakers on most computer setups
2) Satellites are beautiful, and the volume/power knob is smooth
3) For the price that I paid for them, quite the STEAL ($39.99 before taxes at a popular office supply chain)Cons: 1) For those looking for an audiophile satisfying sound these are NOT the speakers for you
2) Sub FAR overpowers the satellites
3) For the ORIGINAL price, I would not have even thought of buying this setSummary: I bought these speakers to replace my old set of Altec Lansing AVS-3000 2.1 Multimedia Speakers the other day mostly for the price I found them at while searching ...
Summary: I bought these speakers to replace my old set of Altec Lansing AVS-3000 2.1 Multimedia Speakers the other day mostly for the price I found them at while searching online. Believe me, if that old speaker system didn't take a crap on me, I would have loved to have them still, but time goes on, and electronics tend to fall apart with age (it got to the point where I had to keep a rubber band on the volume knob for both satellites to work properly). After giving it some thought, even after seeing all the negative reviews for this particular set of speakers, I decided to bite the bullet, and I am very glad I did. Sure, it doesn't really hit the notes on anything very well, but, for the price, I got a lot more than I bargained for.
The highs and mid-range need some work on the clarity department (I tried my best on the digital EQ on Winamp to sharpen it a bit, but, eh, even at my best settings for it, it's still a little lackluster), but that's expected for it's price. When it comes to the Lows, well, that's when this system's just overwhelming (to retain some kind of audio balance between the satellites and the subwoofer, I'm actually running the sub on an eighth turn of the knob, so it's definitely got QUITE the way to go on maxing it's power out for those who just LOVE that Bass... something I'm not that much of a fan of actually).
This system is just adequate for audiophiles (emphasis on the word "adequate"). I wouldn't recommend listening to Rock, Soft Rock, R&B or Country on it, unless you're willing to deal with its lackluster performance on the Highs and Mids, but for genres like Trance, House, Rap, and other more urban types of sound this system's great (since Bass is more of the focus on those genres, unlike the previous bunch)
Would I recommend it for movie watching? yeah, if you're not looking to be impressed by it's quality of sound, and looking just to be entertained, other than that, I'd just recommend one to save up a bit for one of those THX-certified speaker sets (originally I was saving for the Z-2300, but stuff kind of just hit the fan... if you know what I mean).
Now one may ask, how about for gaming? Sure! Again, if you're not looking to be impressed, but just need sound.
Overall, the system's pretty average, but I'm willing to deal with it for the price I paid for them. I know this review sounds harsh and all, but it's just the honest truth. Don't buy these speakers if you're looking to be IMPRESSED by it's "360-degree sound," but do buy it if you just need something that would satisfy your need for an everyday dose of entertainment in your life, and just don't see the point in forking over more than $50 for computer speakers. As I said before these speakers are QUITE THE BARGAIN for a little over $40 at my local office supply chain store, so, yes, I'd recommend them to anyone. -
a small, excellent good sound system, i love it.
by ohadsnow on January 18, 2011
Pros: a very good sound on the low mid range volume (never tested the high volume range), love the bass (nice deep sound)
the fact it has 2 aux is a great thing to connected both computer and the ipod is very
comfortable.
a very clean, clear sound.Cons: - it is suitable only for small rooms and spaces
- the cables are somewhat short and though they are enough for the normal speakers position you can't get a wide distribution angle.Summary: for someone whom wants a small, convenient and an excellent sound with a very good price, then this system is for you.

Totally love it
by rajiv8s on January 3, 2011
Pros: The sound is awesome. Love the bass. The price is incredible.. because such a thing should be selling at least 75 Euroes. The quality is solid. Its worth more than its price and it is of awesome quality.
Cons: On maximum sound.. it does show some weakness. Therefore I think it is incredible for small sized personal use. Eg, in a room..excellent. But for larger use like.. parties.. then I wud suggest the a more powerful one from logitech..
Summary: great surround.
A bass you can feel
For the price it is more than worth.
Id think something like this..shud cost much more.Summary: great surround.
