The good: Added satellite drivers improve audio clarity from previous Logitech 2.1's; accessible subwoofer control; audio input on the remote.
The bad: Subwoofer could use more oomph.
The bottom line: The Logitech Z-4 2.1 speakers improve on the lackluster Z-3s in both audio output quality and design.

Pretty Good

Pros: Clear and Bright Sats - small and thin design

Summary: These speakers get pretty loud and compared somewhat favorably in clarity to my Altec Lansing FX6021. I had a hard time deciding which ones to use at first. They had an authentic clear sound that was nice out of the box. However, like other Logitech speakers I always end up turning the bass all the way down for apartment listening. Overall the sound just doesn't travel far and tends to sound like a small speaker system away from the desk and in the middle of the living room. I moved them to the bedroom but the bass amplifies a lot inside the IKEA computer desk I use where the CPU is supposed to go so I have to turn the bass way down.
The big control knob is perfect - Easy to turn and smooth.
Just for fun, I also tried these sats on my Logitech Z2300 sub and they worked good as well. They may be better sats that the 2300s because of three drivers vs one.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Bit of a disappointment...
by Chrissmithx on January 23, 2006
Pros: Good looks, well made and good user interface.
Cons: Flat sound. No depth at all.

Summary: This is a very nicely packaged product. Slick... I got the Z4i (white) to match the ipod. Setup is very easy. Good, clear pictoral instructions. Then I switched on the music...
The good- upper and middle treble, upper mids and upper base. Clear reproduction.
Missing- mid, lower mid and medium to low base.
The result is a very flat sound. I have some 5 year old Audiomyth computer speakers that I was trying to replace as they're getting freyed at the edges and struggle with volume, but... for the moment all is forgiven. They were very cheap speakers and their depth is just so much better than these. The Z4s are going back to the shop, and hopefully I'll lose my wide eyed look of disbelief and some considerable disappointment.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best Speakers for sub-100 dollars price point.
by hhairplane on April 11, 2010
Pros: These speakers are amazing. All the tones come out clearly. I have been using them mainly for classical, jazz, and some vocals. They are amazing. The specific instruments come out quite clearly.
Cons: The speakers are uncovered, like what many people said. The Logitech logo is also quite present, which maybe good or bad. There are not too many cons.
Summary: I consider myself an audiophile. Though not as good as the Bang and Olufsen speakers (which are 1000 dollars). These speakers definitely hold their own against more expensive speakers like ...
Summary: I consider myself an audiophile. Though not as good as the Bang and Olufsen speakers (which are 1000 dollars). These speakers definitely hold their own against more expensive speakers like the couple hundred dollars Bose Companion 2, and even comparable to the Bose Companion 5s. The sub woofer is clear and very powerful, in my opinion. I bought these speakers about 2 weeks ago for about 55 bucks. It is a really good deal. These speakers are being discontinued, but some Targets are still selling them. I would grab one before it is too late. The speakers are amazing for being almost 2.5 years old since first released.

Summary: I have owned this set of speakers for 2 years so far and I have not had any problems at all. The speakers are still as good as new. The volume control nob is easy and convenient. I play music at 90% volume a lot and there are no problems at all with it. My Floors shake when the bass is turned all the way up. Music sounds amazing and I watched a movie on my laptop and had these speakers and was blown away at the performance.
These speakers sound like you are in the movie theater because of how loud and clear they are. There no no distortion of these Z4 speakers. Logitech does a great job on this system and I think its worth every penny spent on these babies! -
There couldn't be a better bang for your buck!
by IzzySez on January 30, 2010
Pros: Excellent crisp sound. Clean bass as well. Very balanced output and maintains its clarity at high volume. Perfect room speakers. Its priced more than reasonably, I got it for only $130 AUD about a year and a half ago. Still as good as it always was.
Cons: Some are saying the subs could use a bit more grunt, but frankly, I don't see any issue.

Summary: This is one of the best speakers I've ever owned. I've been to stores and checked out 2.1s even upto a few hundred more than this unit, and I wasn't impressed. Most of them tend to focus on just the 'doof-doof' sound of bass for urban music and mostly very muddy. With sound, I believe the balance is necessary more than anything; and this is certainly balanced.
The subwoofer is fine, may be the lower-mids are a bit nerfed. But with all due seriousness, thats just being picky for the sake of being it. Given that it costs like $100 nowadays. These are very good speakers in my oppinion, but its always wise to listen every sound system in the shop, within your price range. After all, everyone hears sounds a little differently. -
These are computer speakers!

Far superior to Bose Companion II for the same price.

Summary: I recently purchased the Bose Companion 2 speakers from a local retailer. I would have given the Bose speakers a 2 out of five, at best. This set brings incredible clarity and a smooth sound for the price. I was blown away when I returned the Companion 2 set and purchased these, which at my local retailer gave me a 20 dollar advantage. I could not believe the value. Watching TV shows and such things on Hulu, I did notice a slight lack in the low-mid range when watching news programs and others dominated by dialogue. However, for listening to any genre of music these speakers excelled. I give them a 4, only because I know there are others superior at a higher price range, but for their value, and at the 80 to 100 dollar price range, they are an absolute 5.

Performs as good as it looks!
by BMaio on September 3, 2009
Pros: Great Looks, excellent sound clarity, good build, cute wired remote
Cons: Glossy finish in both the satellites and the remote means overtime they get scratched and become less appealing. Expensive. With nearly the same audio clarity you can opt for the Altec Lansing ATP3.
Summary: The Logitech Z4 is cute and built very well. The satellite stands might appear weak but thats not so. The stands are strong and real solid. The Z4 performs well ...
Summary: The Logitech Z4 is cute and built very well. The satellite stands might appear weak but thats not so. The stands are strong and real solid. The Z4 performs well too. Even at high volumes, the speakers gave crystal clear sound. Go for the Z4 if you one something with good looks, good audio. It cost just a little more than most cheap 2.1 speakers available in the market, but the audio quality you get is outstanding.
