Plantronics Calisto Pro Series Cordless Landline/VoIP Phone, Silver/Black price range: $193.99

The good: The Plantronics Calisto Pro Series is a home phone system with a Bluetooth headset, which can be used with the landline, cell phones, as well as VoIP. Sound quality is excellent, and setup is easy and painless.
The bad: The Plantronics Calisto Pro Series does not fully integrate with your cell phone, and we would've liked to see a better sync with VoIP services. Also, the Bluetooth headset takes a while to fit properly, and there's a little bit of background static.
The bottom line: Though the Plantronics Calisto Pro Series is easy to use and has excellent sound quality, we ultimately wanted more cell phone and VoIP integration.

Pros: -GREAT sound quality

Summary: Bought this to replace a Plantronics CT11 that has served me well for many years but was time for an upgrade. I tried a few different models and finally decided to bite the bullet and spend the $330 (Canadian Dollars, Office Depot) on the Calisto. Like most high end Plantronics product it was well packaged and came with all the accessories, software, etc. you require to get it set up. As suggested in the manual I fully charged both the headset and the phone before using. Set things up on my desk and got to trying things out. Can't stress enough how good the sound quality is with the bluetooth headset. I tried pairing the phone with different bluetooth headsets (both Plantronics and others) and they weren't nearly as clear or was noticeable static. The phone is alright but the keypad is slightly cramped making it easy to mis-dial numbers. That said its a good size to keep in your hand (I like to walk and pace when I'm on long calls) and feels solidly made. The battery life is inline with the published numbers from Plantronics.
There are however a few shortcomings with the Calisto. The phone lacks basic customization abilities such as the ability to turn off all call logging. In the Plantronics site they show the phone being used as a total replacement for a traditional desk phone. There are a number of problems with this. First, even though the Calisto does have a speaker phone its of mediocre quality and not suitable for conference calls or multiple users in the same room. Second, it only supports a single line so in my situation I still need to have another phone on my desk. Finally, the software included to synch with MS Outlook is very rudimentary and seems like an afterthought. What I'd rather have seen is a TAPI feature allowing me to click to dial from within MS Outlook. Another feature that would be appreciated is the ability to program the phone, including adding your own ringtones, from a PC interface.
If you're looking for a basic cordless phone offering amazing sound quality with the headset then the Calisto fits the bill.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I really like this phone. The ear piece will work with the base/handset or your bluetooth cell phone. It is very easy to change the volume on either the ear piece, handset or base unit. It will work on a land line or VoIP. With the ear piece, you can easily switch from the base/handset unit to your cell phone and not drop a call. The keypad is very easy to use, the buttons are large enough for a mans larger hand, yet not unwieldy in a smaller hand, and they have a nice feel when pressed. This is a wonderful unit, and although a little high in price, you do get what you pay for, and this unit is well worth the price.

Well-engineered compact base with chargers for both pieces. Sharp, functional styling.
Don't generally like ear-loop headsets, but this one is very light & comfortable. Will see how it feels after a few hours.
Pretty expensive, but less than/equal to the cost of a Plantronics wireless headset, without the phone.
Just bought; will update after more use.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Very disappointed because I was lied to by Plantronics.
by durple on June 28, 2010
Pros: I installed this in my detached office behind my house. This unit made it 200+' across the street to my neighbors house. The headset did go about 30' but had some static. It also has a handful of different ring tones.
Cons: After a few months the range & battery life diminished. The phone could only make it to the middle of the street & battery life dropped to half even after following the charging recommendations. I was lied 2 about the MAC OS X 10.6 software rele

Summary: Before I purchased my phone I did the necessary research to ensure that I would be happy with the product in the future. What I did was to first call Plantronics and ask if the VoIP software was compatible with Mac OS X 10.6. I was told that the current software (as of December of 2009) was not compatible with 10.6 only 10.5 and earlier , but that they would be shortly releasing an update to that software and that it would most definitely be compatible with Mac OS X 10.6. So I purchased the phone under false pretenses given to me by Plantronics themselves only so they could make a sale. In February 2010 I called to see if there was going to be a release of the new software and I was told that it would be out in about a month so I waited. It is now June, so I decided to check and found nothing new on their website, so I called to see what was going on. I was then told that there will not be a release of any new Mac software the will be compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 and that the Colisto Pro is being discontinued on top of that. Needles to say that this did not sit well with me. I just spent $300 on a phone that they stopped making and will not have the ability to use it of VoIP calls. I think they knew very well that it was discontinued in December of 2009. I was trying to avoid this in the first place by confirming with the sales and tech teams first and now I find out that I have been lied to the entire time repeatedly? I used to like Plantronics...Now the tables have turned and I really dislike them for LIEING TO ME!
I like the wireless and Bluetooth features and I really wanted to use the VoIP feature like I was told I?d be able to. It was one of the reasons I purchased this thing in the first place. When I called to talk about it, I was told that they would replace it with an item of similar price. Well, that does me no good since all of the things I wanted are in the product they dumped. I am so tired of companies playing games like this. It really makes me not want to buy anything because I know that I will be lied to just so they can make a sale. My money feels much better in my pocket.
I want my money back or for them to release a version of the VoIP software that is compatible with Mac OS X 10.6. Anything else is unacceptable! -
A Little Disappointed
by dontjump1 on October 6, 2009
Pros: BlueTooth capability for the home phone
Ear Piece took some getting use to, but is easy to switch from ear to ear, even in the middle of a call.
When working well, the sound is clear, both from the receiving end and the speaking end.Cons: The key pad is too small and hard to read, poor lighting. I , I alway have to tilt or reangle to read the numbers. Connection gets garbled, Could not make out words, and must redial on most calls.
Summary: Over all I like the concept of the phone, did not mind the unit was a little bulky, but I don't think I would buy this phone again. I ...
Summary: Over all I like the concept of the phone, did not mind the unit was a little bulky, but I don't think I would buy this phone again. I would prefer the unit that I have has perfect success (CS series). I use that in the office and wished i spent the extra money for my home office. I am not sure if the old school monochrome screen is way out of date and is not that easy to read.

Disappointed Calisto Outlook Phonebook Synchronization
by directjj on October 2, 2009
Pros: One of the few 'home or office' phones that will sync contacts with Microsoft Outlook, but does a poor job of that.
Multi use phone, VoIP, portable phone, comes with headset.Cons: Outlook Phonebook Utility limited to 200 names requiring manually selection of contacts.
Also, truncates the contact names. The full names of my son and daughter do not fit.
The monochrome screen is a little chinzy too.Summary: Very disappointed Calisto Outlook Phonebook

Why is it that most cell phones on the market can sync with MS Outlook including contact photos, notes, street address, calendar, not to mention email, etc. etc.
But nobody makes a decent home phone system that can properly sync MS Outlook Contacts?
Because Plantronics Outlook Phonebook Utility only has space for 200 names I have to manually select which 200 names I want to store in the Calisto Pro.
Also, the Calisto Pro Outlook Phonebook Utility truncates the contact names. The full names of my son and daughter do not fit.
The monochrome screen is a little chinzy too. -
OK at best

Pros: This phone can do what many others cannot- if you really need all of your telephony to run thru one phone, by all means...go with this one.
Cons: Display is very small and poorly lit.
The key pad is too small- annoyingly so.
Scratchy sounding reception on the ear pc. Not too bad, but for the price, this should be much better.Summary: Love the bluetooth option, but it's kind of scratchy sounding.
