I'M BACK

Pros: After months of printing pictures and DVD's, and going thru about 10 ink changes. Printer still prints top notch. After coming back from a couple of stores the only competition out in the market right now are laser color printers. This R800 is still th
Cons: Don't use the picture rolls they are annoying, pictures will always have the curve, so no need for a built in cutter. SHUT OFF THE PRINTER WHEN NOT IN USE, if it stays on it will dry the ink and use 3 times more ink to clear. Ink still hard to get, most

Summary: This print quality continues to amaze me and anybody that I show photos printed on this printer too. People just can't believe a printer can print photos with such detail and color accuracy. Epson has done a great job with this printer. I would like to see even more control over the printer with the drivers, but the basic and advanced setting will satisfy most users. I look forward to getting the R1800 (wide version) to replace my Epson 1270 (which is also a great printer). As with most Epson printers, if you don't use often a nozzle check should be done before printing, and if it hasn't been used for a while a head cleaning will often need peformed. A small price to pay for perfect prints.
Updated
The printer continues to work perfectly, and I've found that the automatic head cleaning utility works best when needing to unclog the print heads. The first set of ink was used up quickly, but the second cartridge of the individual cartridges is lasting longer. It seems this printer needs a lot of ink to prime the heads when you first use the printer. The cost should come down on prints when using the 2nd round of ink as the heads will not need to be primed as much. I just received the HP 8250 and after comparing, the R800 is definately the printer to use for your best quality prints.

Summary: I have a small business environment and need a printer that has more versatility. Although photos come out very well, the printer lacks speed and quality in printing copy pages. And the printer does not print envelopes at all! I have had several email conversations with Epson support about this but they keep alluding to the fact that MS Word and the Epson are not compatible. I think this should be mentioned in your review since Word is one of the most widely used word processing programs around.

Excellent machine, but not for everyone

Pros: Total elimination of the bronzing effect over the SP 2200. The new UltraChrome pigment inks produce prints that are superior to the Stylus Photo 2200, but are still not as good as say the much less expensive R300. The cd printing is excellent and the pr
Cons: Pigment inks can scratch easially, so don't just throw them around. The ink cartridge prices are outrageous ($14.99 X....8!), but still much less expensive than an HP solution. The printer price is too high for features offered and availability of the mac

AWESOME PRINTER - Digital printing done right
by

April 11, 2004
Pros: No, the R300 does not take better prints, not as good as the R800, well it is almost 1/2 price, i don't need fancy lcd displays and media slots on my printer. If your pictures don't come out great then u are not printing properly. I have this printer for
Cons: Make sure you get a paper cutter ahead of this purchase, it will not cut the paper for you. Do not turn it off, otherwise you will be wasting ink since it cleans its cartridges every time it powers on. At $399 it's not cheap but worthit. Paper loading i

True Photo Quality
by

Pros: The printer delivers stunning glossy color photos on Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper. With other papers color tones and vibrancy are of course different, and so for gloss I prefer the Epson paper. This is the first inkjet I've seen that renders glossy b
Cons: Not available in a wide carraige model (Epson 2200 just isn't in the same league). No paper cutter. First unit was dead out of box, but store replaced it without question. Second unit works great.

Having a problem with dark prints?
by
on
November 30, 2004
Pros: Great photo quality. Suggestion: Always use the recommended paper to get the best quality of photo's. You loose a lot of quality if you dont. Sorry Epson 2200 owners...this one prints black ink on glossy paper great!
Cons: Two ways to correct the dark prints. 1) Open and print the file using Photoshop. 2) Download the new driver thats on Epsons website. Epson claims it will correct the "too dark" problem, but remember to delete the original driver before you install the new

Photo quality is top notch.
by
on
February 22, 2005
Pros: For the money nothing comes close in terms of print quality. It is more than adequate for text and graphics although a bit slow. If you want an all around this probably won't fit the bill. With droplett sizes down to 1.5 ul (1.5 trillionths of a liter) co
Cons: It's hard to be all things to all people, so while outstanding as a photo printer it's lack of speed hinders it in the text and graphics comparison, as do the expensive ink cartridges.

Best Phot Printer at Consumer Level
by

July 14, 2004
Pros: I've been using this printer since April and wow- great for small digital all the way up to the 13.89 megapixel Kodak camera- I print constantly on DVDs- and they look good (not brilliant vivid- but maybe the Ritek DVDs) Is it worth the price? Beleive
Cons: The only real con I've found is the "arrogance" of the printer. It always fights to be the default printer. I may solve this if I call tech support, but I'm never home during business hours.

Excellent quality archival prints

Pros: Beautiful, true, vibrant prints on the premium glossy photo paper. Very nice detail, better than photo lab when comparing the same two prints.
Cons: Even though there is a plug-in for Photoshop 7 in the software, and I select "fit to size" on the Epson dialog box, I cannot get the file to size to the paper I'm using. When I was seeking assistance from Epson, I felt as if they "blew me off" when they
