The good: Provides complete control of PlayStation 3 including all 51 possible commands; allows for powering on and off; saves a USB port.
The bad: Adapter requires power; Harmony programming isn't as simple as directions make it out to be; won't work with remotes other than Harmony.
The bottom line: Setting up the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 isn't completely painless (or cheap), but once up and running, it does provide total control over your PS3 including the ability to power it on and off.

Finally the PS3 can be controlled with my Harmony

Summary: OK, I've been kind of iffy on CNET reviews ever since they switched up the reviews on their TVs and dropped some scores. In my opinion once you've decided on a score you shouldn't go back and adjust said score unless something was discovered later on that either takes away from or adds to the product. From what I understand they lowered some scores because of "changes in the competitive marketplace." Uhm, what exactly does that mean? Aren't there always changes in the competitive marketplace? Isn't that why we have new and updated products, so that companies can remain competitive? Anyway, I feel this adapter deserves more than 3.5 stars. It does what is promised, end of story. There's no way that everyone would have been satisfied other than if Sony had put an IR sensor in the PS3. If it used a USB port, people would have complained. If it operated on batteries, people would have complained. It requires a power outlet, and still people complain. I think a power outlet was probably the most reasonable way to feed power to this device. I had absolutely no problems pairing this with my PS3 or programming my remote, so I find it funny that the CNET reviewer did when it was very easy and the Harmony software has pop up indicators that explained certain issues like choosing to add the PS3 as a game console. In my opinion setting up any device with your Harmony remote may take a couple of syncs until you find what button placement you're comfortable with. All in all, though a bit pricey, I definately recommend the Harmony Adapter for the PS3. Thumbs up.

If you own a Harmony remote, this is the best adapter
by jimblock on May 21, 2009
Pros: Setup is easy. It provides all PS3 remote commands including power on and power off. Harmony remotes have better ergonomics that the Sony PS3 remote. Logitech is a major company more likely to provide ongoing support that the other adapter makers.
Cons: Slightly pricey.
Summary: I am very satisfied with the adapter -- I wish it had been available a year or two ago.

Works great!

Pros: I can now control my PS3 with my Harmony One remote. How cool is that?

Summary: Let me first say I love my Harmony One remote. I find it hard to watch TV without it now. I was amazed it could even control my Xbox 360. Now that it can now control my PS3, it's the holy grail of universal remotes. I can now toss out that ugly PS3 remote (well, not literally toss out) with all my other remotes. My Harmony One now controls all five of my components: TV, cable box, AV receiver, Xbox 360 and PS3. Money well spent.

Works just as described
by sjschaef on May 20, 2009
Pros: Easy to set up (I had no issues on either end with the PS3 or adding it to my Harmony One via the computer); works perfectly.
Does not use a USB port on the PS3.Cons: Price.. this is why I gave it 4.5 stars. $60 is expensive but it is really convenient now.
Summary: It works, plain and simple. If you follow the directions to hook it up the PS3 (which were perfectly clear) and then add it like you do anything else using ...
Summary: It works, plain and simple. If you follow the directions to hook it up the PS3 (which were perfectly clear) and then add it like you do anything else using the software to your remote.. you will be up and running in less than 10 minutes.
Not using a USB port allows you to charge your controllers and keeps you from unplugging things every time you want to use it. Having it plug into the wall keeps it ready to be used via the remote. Jeff says this is a CON but if I have to go to the PS3 to plug in/unplug the adapter (if you are charging controllers or have another adapter connected), why even bother. I would just turn it on/off by the power switch.
I still think this is priced about $20 to $25 too high but you are paying for the convenience of one remote that does everything.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Doesn't Work with PS3 Slim!
by USAFVet1 on November 20, 2009
Pros: Reportedly works well with older PS3 models that have not been upgraded to 3.0 firmware.
Cons: No upgrade for PS3 3.0 firmware in sight. Will most likely require a recall of the current adapter and a new model will need to come out.
Summary: With the release of the PS3 Slim, the Logitech Harmony adapter is rendered useless. If you check the forums on Logitech's support site and read the numerous complaints, there ...
Summary: With the release of the PS3 Slim, the Logitech Harmony adapter is rendered useless. If you check the forums on Logitech's support site and read the numerous complaints, there is currently no solution to the problem with the PS3 3.0 firmware update. The codes that allowed connectivity with the adapter were rewritten by Sony for the new firmware, and there is no upgrade for the adapter from Logitech to compensate for the problem. Bottom line, if you own a PS3 Slim, do not purchase the adapter. Since the Slim is now the only PS3 being manufactured, Logitech will most likely need to recall the current adapter and produce a new model compatible with the Slim.

Finally, a solution
by repete66211 on May 22, 2009
Pros: Easy setup, total PS3 control, including on/off
Cons: Price. I don't regret buying this, but considering I've already unloaded some cash for a Harmony remote you'd think they'd make it more affordable. It's worth about $20-$30.

Summary: I'm not sure what the reviewer had trouble with. I had this thing up and running in about 3 minutes. As with any other device or activity, customizing the hard/soft buttons takes some tweaking. This is a great product. I know Logitech needs to recoup R&D, but if this thing were $20 or $30 you'd see 5 star ratings from everyone.
BTW, this replaced a Nyko. While the that one was good enough it did lack full functionality. With this device you can perform functions (i.e. subtitle, audio track) with the push of a button. With the Nyko you have to enter a menu.

Anyone want to buy a Nyko? How about a PS3 bluetooth remote?
Updated on Jun 3, 2009Re CNET's downsides:
Adapter requires power - either it requires a plug, batteries or USB. USBs are a a premium, so batteries are the only other option.
Harmony programming isn't as simple as directions make it out to be - Yes it is.
Won't work with remotes other than Harmony - It's a Harmony product so of course it doesn't. Seems like this complaint is really reaching.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I have a Harmony One and it's great to be able to use it to control all functions of my PS3. No more using the Sony remote that had no backlighting which made it difficult to use in the dark. Only wish it came out sooner. Another great product from Logitech!

Summary: Its cheaply made product that does not work after a year. I have read a number of reviews that have had the same experience as mine...This product will stop working right around year after purchase. So you will not be able to get a replacement from Logitech. I have notified Logitech of their faulty product and they are refusing to replace it because it is out of warranty. Do your research and you will see a large number describing the same experience.

Best PS3 Adapter available.

Summary: This was a great addition to my home theater setup. I got a 50% off coupon (thanks ebay!), and was able to pick it up for cheap. Normally, this is a pretty hefty price to pay for what it does, but it works well. I have an RF extender with all my gadgets set up in another room, and the worst thing about this adapter is that there is no easy way to connect the adapter to my RF extender. Logitech says there is a cord to hardwire the two together, but they don't sell it. I had to rig up a weird connection (2.5mm mono male to 3.5 mono male) to get it to work without sticking the ugly IR emitter onto the adapter (which believe it or not really affected the output).
Anyway, the ability to connect my harmony remote with my PS3 without extra wires or taking up the precious USB ports makes this a great buy. It is a little pricey, but it works great. -
Excellent product
by tafernando on March 10, 2010
Pros: Works fine with PS3, and you can customize buttons at your remote control.
Cons: I had an issue with my first adapter, which was confirmed by the manufacturing as a bug.
Some units had to be replaced as they loose the "PS3 pairing" everytime.Summary: if you have a harmony remote and PS3, you need that.
