by Atlsham on April 5, 2011
Pros: Graphics are excellent. Cars are awesome. Very easy game to play even for a rookie. Love the different tracks.

Good game , Albeit a very dissapointing one
by ironsnakemx on January 21, 2011
Pros: Simply put this game has the best driving mechanics of all time ...... The premium cars do look spectacular and the number of sheer content is very good
Cons: The standard cars , wich make up 80 % of the cars in the game all look like something taken from GT 4 , ok they looked great back in the day , but after seeing Forza , PTR 3 and 4 , Need for speed HP , these cars look awful
Summary: This game is fun when everything is in place , that is when you are driving a premium car , on one of the better tracks of the game , listening to your ...
Summary: This game is fun when everything is in place , that is when you are driving a premium car , on one of the better tracks of the game , listening to your custom Soundtrack ....but every other time the game is just a dissapointing effort ........ Gran Turismo never had the level of competition that it has today , now its the time when Poliphony should have really push the genre forward .....instead it almost feels like Gran Turismo 4.5

Terrific car collection game, flawed racing sim
by mparkhur on January 10, 2011
Pros: Solid selection of vehicles, including some wonderful classics.
Good array of tracks, including Le Mans and the NurburgringCons: Lame/nonexistent simulation of effects of damage
No penalty system for aggressive/sloppy driving
Many of the 1,000+ cars are pointless variations on a handful of unremarkable models
Long load screens follow virtually every click between racesSummary: Despite the very long wait since the previous iteration, many things in the game just seem not quite right. Lack of consequences for driving overly-aggressively or basically cheating undermine game'...
Summary: Despite the very long wait since the previous iteration, many things in the game just seem not quite right. Lack of consequences for driving overly-aggressively or basically cheating undermine game's claim to "simulation" status - you can basically play bumper cars with walls and other cars with no penalty (& often to your advantage). Forza for the XBox does many things better. Still, it's a game worth giving a whirl - it's a joy to take your Maserati or Audi onto the Nurburgring and try to finish under 7 minutes.

Keeps getting better and better
by Geoffrey Dean Jackson on December 15, 2010
Pros: AI much improved, as the physics as well.
Being able to build your own tracks and coursesCons: Some features are locked out (ie full racing transmission, being able to change individual gear ratio's is locked out until a certain level. Very frustrating)
Summary: Bottom line: I've played Gran Turismo since the first one back in 1998. It keeps getting better and better every time I play the newer version. It's worth ...
Summary: Bottom line: I've played Gran Turismo since the first one back in 1998. It keeps getting better and better every time I play the newer version. It's worth the $$ for the game. It's fun, you can drive like a god and not have to worry about your insurance company dropping you! LOL :D

Perfection in a game
by mgillespie2 on December 1, 2010
Pros: Physics
Graphics
Damage
AI
OnlineCons: Menu system can be clunky at times. Watch out for the AI and Damage, they only start getting noticable at around level 20 in A-Spec mode. Most reviews it seems were unaware of this.
Summary: Incredible game, and definitely a reason alone to buy a PS3 (as if there are already 100 other reasons).

What's unfair is GT5 is being reviewed against a different yardstick to all other games, and for that the reviewers should hang their heads in shame. -

Good game, but not "that" good.
by jexner325 on November 25, 2010
Pros: Premium Car Graphics are fantastic
Depth is amazing
Driving Physics are fantastic
+1000 Cars to Choose fromCons: Non-Premium Car Graphics are poor
Tracks are bland and uninspired
Game can get boring after a couple days
Game feels dated....if it came out 2 years ago, would have been great. Not now in 4Q 2010!

Summary: When GT Prologue came out for the PS3, I was super excited for what would come with the full game. I was told when I bought Prologue, the full version would come out just months later. Glad I didn't wait on that, as the game came out over a year and half later after countless delays and broken promises.
There was a lot of hype surrounding the game due to heightened expectations; this is solely Polyphony Digital's fault. Unfortunately, GT5 could not and did not live up to the hype. First, the presentation of the game and loading experience is simply unacceptable in a game like this; having to wait 45 minutes just to play the game and then experience MORE loading screens is simply aggravating. Loading and waiting would be okay if the graphics and depth supported it, but when only 200 cars have solid detail and HD quality graphics, it seems as though we all got ripped off. Winning a car is almost laughable. You close out of the current race, get a notification that you have a new car, wait while the game loads, see the front of the car, more loading, then the game asks if you want to use the car, after waiting and more loading, it is placed in your garage. Wow, GT2 had a better reward system!!!
I kept asking myself; why was this game delayed? What did they do or add to make this a better experience? Prologue actually had a better menu and presentation system, which is embarrassing for GT5. The cars look about the same as Prologue and the track's do not look much better either. If it was delayed to add 3D, stupidity on PD's part cannot begin to describe that error in logic.
There are definitely a lot of reasons to play this game. I am a car freak and love tuning and racing cars. I have definitely enjoyed parts of GT5, but I do feel as though the leap from GT4 was not that large, especially not after the time it has taken for us to get this game. Yes, I have played Forza but I really wanted and hoped this game would blow it out of the water; it is simply not the case.
I believe that if you are looking for a challenging racing sim, GT5 will not disappoint nor will it make you jump for joy. It is a good game, just not a great game. I remember the feeling I had when I picked up GT4; excitement, amazement, and simple shock at the graphics power of a game at that time. GT4 pushed the limits of the PS2 which made it a reason to buy the system. GT5 disappoints and leaves a lot to be desired. GT5 does not push the boundaries of the PS3 like God of War III or Uncharted 2, which was a bummer for me and many other GT5 fans.
I have to tip my hat to Microsoft and the developers of Forza, they have truly knocked Sony off the top of the console battle and have possibly knocked GT5 off the top of the Racing Sim Genre, which is a big statement but true. I wish it wasn't the case, but it is hard to argue the contrary at this point.
