GTA4... the new GTA2
by theonlybuster on April 29, 2008
Pros: Multiplayer is back finally from GTA2. A few new actions to use like the cover system
Cons: Story mode is the same old with a few twists and changes to certain thing. You do see frame rate problems and sometimes you're left wonder how you died

Summary: I've been a big fan of the Grand Theft Auto series from the original to GTA 1969 London and now GTA4. I will say that Rockstar has made a few bad moves on the way here, but going back to their roots was the best thing they could of done.
They took the story from Grand Theft Auto, tossed out everything from Grand Theft 1969, the multiplayer scheme from Grand Theft Auto 2, the 3D aspect from Grand Theft Auto 3, and various other things from Vice City and San Andreas.
True fans are now able to say that Vice City and San Andreas were just side stories and testing grounds so we can say "Finally Rockstar you've made GTA what it was supposed to be."
Congrats to making it big.
I recommend anyone who wants to know more of the back story get GTA, GTA2, and GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas have nothing on what the franchise should be. -
Too much hype
by swiggins on May 3, 2008
Pros: looks pretty enough-huge open world gameplay will give many hours of play
Cons: PS3 version is pretty much a dog-too may issues compared to the 360 version

Summary: Ya know, I wanted to like this game, I really did, but I think from now on I am going to go for a little bit less reality in my video games. I really don't mind shooting up aliens or vampires and monsters, but when I am playing as a scum-bag, and committing crimes, that's where I have to stop.
Next time, if they want to inject a little bit more reality into the game, how about having Roman get arrested and getting abused in prison for 5 to 10, oh and how about doing it in real time to really show these kids just how glamorous crime really is. . . .I don't know when I became such a prude, but having kids under 18 playing this game is just unacceptable. . . Unfortunately, a majority of people playing are under 18, and heavily influenced by this nonsense........The game for me moves too slow, and the dark look is outright depressing. The score I am giving it is for the 360 version which pretty much runs without a hitch. The PS3 version not only is visually choppy, but is prone to freezing and the online, (when you can get online) is not as good as it's 360 cousin. I would give the PS3 version a 7, . due to the issues that come with it. I am beginning to think however that this is a PS3 problem with the freezing, not a GTA problem because a week earlier I experienced the same kind of freeze ups with the MGO beta. If you like killing innocent people and committing crime, this game is for you, personally, I'll stick with a less real game.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Disappointing.
by Tec Consumer on April 30, 2008
Pros: Cars look cool.
Cons: Not an improvement over San Andreas, its just a modded version GTA3 with all the same BUGS and GLITCHES

Summary: Truly disappointing. I am a die hard GTA fan. I upgraded my sound card to play GTA3, upgraded my graphics card to play san andreas and got PS3 to play GTA IV.
This is nothing more than a modded up version of GTA3. It even has some of the same missions (throwing brick through store window) and the same BUGS.
Just like GTA3 when you drive from one section of the map into another it sometimes freezes up or stutters. There is no excuse for that after these issues were resolved in San Andreas.
On top of that. My PS3 (40GB) CRASHED within a half hour after the 20 minute installation!!! I had to turn off the switch in the back of the system because the front buttons didn't work. Then it froze for more three minutes during game play TWICE!!! AND -- during the car chase mission early on in the game -- when I caught the guy and beat him up NOTHING HAPPENED!!! I was looking around for where to go for almost FIVE MINUTES. Then all of the sudden while I was walking back into the building where the guy was it went to the cut scene of the guy getting thrown out of the window!!! FIVE MINUTES AFTER I BEAT THE GUY UP!!!!!
Totally unacceptable.
I have heard stories about 360 crashing. So I waited it out and got a Falcon 360. I have never had a problem and I have played all of the hottest games without incident.
My brother is not a GTA fan -- so I hope he gets bored of his copy for 360 and lets me borrow it.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

It's Official, PS3 Version runs better than the 360 Version
by Dre Dinero on April 28, 2008
Pros: Excellent Detail, Raises the GTA bar even high than San Andreas, Excellent Story Line and Dialogue, Multiplayer, Most Realistic looking game thus far (Running out of room, too many pros)
Cons: Framerate does occur, all buildings aren't interactive, cover system flaw

Summary: I know alot of you die hard XBOX 360 fans aren't going to be pleased to find out that (yes its true, even IGN agrees)the new Grand Theft Auto IV game which releases to the public 12AM tonight, runs a lot smoother on the PS3, with a way shorter load time (due to the fact the game loads directly to a PS3 hard drive, XBOX could not do this because there arent many XBOX elite owners who have the necessary hard drive), far more less framerate issues (this is a no brainer, PS3 is way more powerful console, also the reason the air force and others use them as super computers) due to blu-ray storage and quality. Besides that the 360's color is a litte brighter (more animated looking), beyond those facts, the game play is neck and neck for both systems. I've been playing it all last night and this morning, unfortunately I had to go to work. I've been talking bout this game all day and decided to see what the reviews and others were saying. IGN gave is a 10 out of 10 (First game with a perfect 10 score from IGN since Soul Calibur in 1999, wow, damn near a decade. Also first game with a 10 in the seventh generation of home consoles). Just so happens my buddy and I (he works at a game store, wont say which one, and he hooked up both up with the game yesterday as he was cleared to do so.) played the game first at his house on the 360 (which I considered buying due to the extra 'exclusive' content for GTA) and I was ecstatic although it took some time to load (longer than the beginning of San Andreas). Throughout the game we experienced a lot of framerate issues during police chases and speeding throughout the city (the framerate does not throw off gameplay though, it was still fun to watch and play). After a hour or 3, I rushed to my house, poped the game in, and notcied that the load time was very short, just a few seconds (like 15). Also I noticed that my PS3 version looked a little more like a movie with detailed edge, so at that point I wanted to see how my police chase looked and there a couple to no framerate issues. So I called my buddy to **** him off and make him buy a PS3 since he almost convinced me to buy XBOX. I told him all that I noticed and he was quickly to say "no its not", so I told him come over and he witnessed it in total shock. Reason I bought that story up was because in IGN's review (as well as others) noticed the same things I did, which puts the icing on the cake to what I was feeling and telling everyone from day one, come on, XBOX uses HD-DVD (a max of 30GB per dual layer) and PS3 uses Blu-Ray (a max of 50GB per dual layer), now ask any developer what can you do more with, and they'll tell you PS3, but with all the simultaneous releases developers aren't allowed to develop games that stand out significantly on the PS3 because Microsoft would need a new system just to compete in the Nex-Gen war that they loss badly last generation. I do hate that PS3 games that come out on XBOX are held back because of that but none the less the games dont look bad but can be more detailed on PS3. Enough of my opinion on that, all in all GTA 4 is a complete masterpiece that will shadow a lot of games this year, there is just so much to do, rather your getting drunk or going to watch Katt Williams perform a set or even meeting friends, there is too much to do this time around so the word "bordom" doesn't exist. You'll love it rather you have PS3 or XBOX or both. Looks like I'm a have to pass on the exclusive content cause I dont want to feel like I wasted money when my system looks better for the game. 2 episodes aint worth 600 dollars (I was going to buy the elite), I'll just go to my buddies house and play it on his. Well I'm going to conclude this opinion with a direct quote from IGN's reviews for the game on both systems (and yes this validates all that I said) and o yea, it was well worth the wait as it exceeds the hype it received, at least in my opinion, anyway here is the quote "For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud."
Reminder!!! If you understand business, you understand politics. IGN has to remain politically correct because they dont want to damage another consoles sales and/or reputation or even worse lose a high paying client, which is the reason they said it in a nice way, but the message is clear, PS3 version visual and loading is smoother than that of the XBOX, but they dont want to say, PS3 version runs better, its cleaner, etc. Thats politically incorrect.

The 360 review is the same as the PS3 review, word for word.3 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.
