Ratchet & Clank...in Blu-ray Hi-Def!!!
by MrMurder on March 8, 2009
Pros: Very rich in graphics and gameplay. New, redesigned arsenal. Sound effects, brightness, and color saturation are more superb than the other Ratchet & Clank games. Exploration with the Robo-wings is fun.
Cons: Annoying mini-games. Has a few hardware glitches. Very easy to play (for those who've played past Ratchet & Clank games). Some graphics still need work (like the planet's atmospheres, which have abysmal graduation levels).

Summary: I got this game with the PS3, as I'm a self-proclaimed Ratchet & Clank fan. At first I couldn't get the game to play on my PS3 due to some weird HDD glitch, but after formating the HDD, I finally got it to play. I was drawn into the game on the first level, and couldn't stop playing it. I love the new weapons Isomniac put in this game, especially the Tornado Launcher. I just love to sweep enemies into the tornado with the SIXAXIS. The back of the cover is right. You are playing a Pixar movie experience. This game does have a few minor hardware glithes, but you'll find ways to resolve them. For example, when Ratchet climbed back to his ship in the Ublik Passage, a black screen appear and I couldn't access the PS3's XMB. so I just turned off the unit with the power switch. And after I put the game back on, it played perfectly. I just hope the Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty sequel will have better graphics, no hardware glitches, none of those dumb mini-games, and a big arsenal of weapons I've never seen.

Summary: Ratchet and Clank's PS3 debut leave fans with their mouths opens. The visuals are incredible, everything looks awesome.Character models and enviorements are pleasing to look at.But the cutscenes are the one who takes the gold. They look like a PIXAR movie. You can even see Ratchet's fur and the animations in the character's moves are quite impressive.Gameplay haven't change so much. The Sixaxis is a big element here,so you'll need to use weapons like the Tornado Launcher and the Geo-Laser.It's kind of frustrating, but if you're good using the Sixaxis controller, you won't have any problem.Future plays exactly to the Ratchet PS2 games. But,there's a little problem.Clank's segments are a bit lackluster.Part slow and part boring.
The game is not so challenging like the preview entries. It's pretty easy. The game is long, and will keep players busy for some weeks. But Ratchet and Clank Future is a satysfying title that fans and PS3 owners should take a look. -
Great way to show off the PS3's power

Pros: Changing scenarios keep gameplay interesting, eye-popping visuals, cute storyline
Cons: Seasoned gamers report finding it comparatively easy

Summary: It's been said many times by others, and I'll corroborate it; the animation of this title is so mind-blowingly spectacular that it feels like you're living a Pixar movie. What this description leaves out is that most Pixar movies don't have the huge, stunning grandeur of planets from the Star Wars universe. The game opens on a Coruscant-like super-metropolis and goes from there.
The storyline is light-hearted and filled with comedic elements, which one might expect given the furry-esque cuteness of the lead characters. But, there's none-the-less a sense of compelling emotion as Ratchet quests to discern the fate of his race or as the robot Clank has visions from a phantasmal race. The storyline is compelling enough to keep you wanting to play the next level through, blithely unaware of the hours of real time passing by, threatening you with sleep deprivation.
Gameplay mechanics varies from one scene or level to the next. There is plenty of running, jumping, and shooting various weapons (ranging from familiar blasters to more exotic tornado launchers, to an amusing device that causes your enemies to stop attacking and dance), at times you are shifted to flying or falling perspectives, in which you use the SIXAXIS motion sensor to control movement. At one point, you are controlling the robot Clank, giving up all the weapons you've already learned and using a new set of powers, including the ability to slow down time. At another, you're flying a spaceship ship through asteroids around a planetary ring and fighting spaceships in what feels like a graphic-intense update of some classic arcade games.
One does have to nit-pick a few plot points. (If Clank can pop out wings in one scene, then why doesn't he whenever I fall to my doom in subsequent scenes?) But, it's got a lot of eye candy, the characters are compelling, and the game is quite fun. -
Engaging, graphically outstanding, and a good start for new or returning gamers
by pmignini on December 4, 2007
Pros: Graphics, amusing passages, straightforward and fun
Cons: Probably not challenging enough for the die-hard gamers. And that's OK.

Summary: I bought a new PS3 in October with visions of returning to the gameplaying enthusiasm of my teen years, which are now a couple of decades behind me. After reading reviews, I purchased several games, including this one, Madden 08, and Resistance: Fall Of Man. The first thing I was struck by was how challenging it was to understand and play most games. I mean, 10 buttons and 3 directional controls, and instructions like "press L1 and R2 while holding the down key and rotating the right joystick?" Holy Cow! Further, games like Madden seem to assume you know how to play, with challenging instructions that make it difficult for the first-timer to get engaged.
This game is different.
For many of the reasons that the reviewers mention, I enjoy this game immensely. First, the looks and sound are just amazing. I recently upgraded to a home theater setup with a 46" 1080p LCD, a full-featured amp and 5.1 surround. On this system, I am constantly stopping to admire the sharp, graphic detail and creative scene design. The sound? Well, in full surround (translation: when my wife is not home), sound is equally impressive. Slight ding: surround seems only modestly engaged. The game would benefit from a more full surround experience.
And, yes, after completing about 60% of the game, I agree: gameplay is not earth-shatteringly complex. It IS possible to get into a bit of a rut, depending on the same weapons. I mean, one blaster can actually aim and fire multiple bursts at multiple targets as you are running AWAY. What's not to like?
Still, for someone who wanted to experience the graphics and gameplay of the latest generation of games, this is an excellent starting point. I have fun. I'm challenged enough to keep it interesting. The pseudo-storyline has enough silliness to make me laugh every now and again. Hard-core, "I can play GNR riffs on Guitar Hero 3 better than Slash live" players would likely find this less engaging.
It's not little-kid easy, to be sure. You need to strategize as to weapon use, optimal paths, and those every-foe-in-the-galactic-sector arena and other battles. Plus, there are enough scene and story arc changes to keep you engaged. Nonetheless, highly experienced gamers used to hair-raising action might prefer a more challenging experience. Easy, yes, but engagingly so.
By the way, I laughed when reading in the formal review that this is a ten to twelve hour game. Perhaps I'm a poster child for remedial, but I've easily played more than that and, as mentioned, probably have 40-50% of the game remaining. Granted, I explore every nook to find what I can, but I think even more efficient, direct players will get more than 12 hours out of it - a good thing.
So, yes, it's easy. And that's perfectly OK. If you are new to gaming, returning, remember using snail mail at work every single day, or just want something a little less challenging than, say, designing nanotechnology-based time travel, this is an outstanding ride.
