Excellent touch pad and pen functionality
by saylrmen on October 17, 2009
Pros: Excellent tracking, great sensitivity, very configurable.
Cons: Uses two finger swipe for back/forward instead of three finger swipe. Sometimes the tablet interprets a two finger swipe for a right click.

Summary: Overall I think this is a great product. Pee_kay must have had an older driver, I took mine out of the box and installed it yesterday. Gestures include pinching for zoom in/out and rotate. Four finger Mac gestures are not supported. Until Mac comes up with an alternative this is a great touch pad for a desktop.
I tried out the tablet in Photoshop and had great success. Super easy to zoom in/out, the pen is great for re-touching and for drawing.
Overall I am very pleased with my purchase, it's a bargain for $99.00!3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

"No substitute for Microwave oven!"
by tqla on November 14, 2009
Pros: Sorry but that's how much sense pee_kays headline made. The Bamboo Touch costs $69. The mac touchpad is attached to a gabillion dollar laptop. And how would you even try and substitute it??? Sheece, the fanboys never cease.
Cons: None really.
Summary: Once you get used to it and set the preferences to your liking it's a breeze to navigate. I like it! It works as advertised.

Great for Starters, not a Intuos though.
by JimmyPez on April 16, 2010
Pros: Small, Lightweight and really affordable, you can really get a feel for a tablet w/o breaking the bank.
Cons: Pen feels cheap - almost breakable.

Summary: For a serious artist, make the investment and get an intuos. If you're just out to mess around, do some light photoshop work, lets the kids play or what have you - the bamboo is an excellent choice. I give it 3.5 stars just because of the dirt cheap price tag and overall versatility. Its a lot of fun.

It's very similar to the MBP touchpad...when it works
by JaaayTeee on February 7, 2010
Pros: The tablet does exactly what it's supposed to do. It has multi touch capability and easily works in place of a mouse. This is the first tablet I have ever used, and the control the pen offers is awesome.
Cons: The interface takes some time to get used to. Driver is buggy. Won't work(as of right now)on my Mac Mini.

Summary: I bought this for use on my Mac Mini that's used as my media center. When I hooked the usb cable up to the mini I was able to move the cursor around the screen with the pad, but none of the touch features worked. I installed the drivers, and now the pen works but it's very jumpy, the touch features don't work at all, it won't even move the cursor around the screen. I've tried deleting then reinstalling the drivers, deleting the drivers, repairing permissions, reinstalling the drivers, even re installing the OS. Nothing worked. When I remove the drivers the pad again controls the cursor, but as soon as the drivers are installed the tablet no longer works in any way.
So how can I give it 3 stars? For giggles I decided to try to install the tablet on my MBP. Viola, everything works as advertised. It works at a slightly different speed than my touchpad, but I think that can be tweaked in the driver. Two finger scroll, tap, two finger tap, pinch zoom, twist rotate all work in a very similar manner to my MBP touchpad.
The pen, which takes some getting used to, offers a degree of control I've never had with a mouse or trackpad. I am still trying to get used to the quirks of hovering the pen to move it, and using the entire surface as if it were my screen. But this is just a matter of getting used to the new device.
This pad has a lot of potential and should be the device I am looking for if I can work out the bugs with Wacom. I'll revisit this review after my experience with Wacom's tech support1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

a decent digital pen but a horrible touch pad
by coambis on December 26, 2009
Pros: The pen is light, precise. The size of the track pad is nice.
Cons: Its scrolling capability is limited. It keeps on sticking or freezing when I try to scroll browsers with the pen or with the trackpad itself. Also the trackpad overall has a jumpy movement. Not a smooth scrolling at all.
Summary: It's a fun tool to have, and the pen can be an additional tool to navigate through your screen and place your cursor precisely - perhaps better than your ...
Summary: It's a fun tool to have, and the pen can be an additional tool to navigate through your screen and place your cursor precisely - perhaps better than your mouse can. However, Bamboo Pen and Touch cannot replace your mouse or your touchpad on your laptop because of its bugs.

Unusable for Illustration of any kind
by dennisrc on August 14, 2010
Pros: makes using a mouse to draw precise, complex lines in photoshop seem like a breeze by comparison.
Cons: As a professional illustrator, my 5yrs old niece can draw better with a regular pen than I can with this pos. The pen motion does not come close to matching what happens onscreen and there are no 512 sensitivity functions whatsoever, also advertised.
Summary: Literally the most useless piece of "hardware" I've ever encountered. Does nothing that a mouse doesn't do ten times better. No idea why anyone likes it, I think ...
Summary: Literally the most useless piece of "hardware" I've ever encountered. Does nothing that a mouse doesn't do ten times better. No idea why anyone likes it, I think people just want to rave about something they think is advanced, even if it's a failure compared to the common mouse everyone already uses. I guess people aren't using it for illustrating or photo retouching, they're just saying they are.

Buggy drivers make the Bamboo Pen And Touch unusable
by JSharke on September 20, 2010
Pros: Nice build
Features are great when they work
Highly accurate pen trackingCons: Drivers are so bad you'll tear your hair out in frustration

Summary: I have a very clean installation of Windows 7 which gives me no problems whatsoever, clean enough to know for sure that the hellish problems I had with the Bamboo drivers were nothing to do with some unusual configuration or other on my part. Quite simply, these are the most buggy, unusable drivers I've ever had the misfortune to use in my 25 years or so of computing. Each feature of the device demonstrated that it worked - physically - at one time or another. And they work well when they do work, even though the touch gestures leave a little to be desired at times (the two fingered navigation gestures can easily be mistaken for a two fingered scroll, for instance).
But after quite literally 6 or so hours of installing, testing, removing and reinstalling every single version of the driver available for this device - including the latest RC and the one that came on the CD in the box, I could not get all of the features to work simultaneously or for any length of time. In between endless reinstallations and rebootings, various combinations of the features would randomly disable themselves. Sometimes tapping wouldn't work. Sometimes it would, but dragging wouldn't. Sometimes the touch on/off toggle button wouldn't work, sometimes it would reassign itself to the back button in the browser. Other times the touch wouldn't work at all (despite being turned on) and I'd have to reboot. Sometimes my touch speed setting would be ignored, or revert back to the earlier setting. Sometimes I couldn't double click, other times I couldn't right click. Boy, have I been through it all tonight! I don't recall ever having been frustrated by a product to this extent - and I'm someone for whom things usually work flawlessly first time.
After almost throwing the thing out of the window, I did one last final install of one of the drivers - lo and behold, everything seemed to work together. I was browsing. I was dragging. I was double clicking. I was navigating Windows with the pen. Great, I thought - I'll fire up Adobe Illustrator, the main reason why I bought a tablet! Upon starting a new document, it appeared that tapping had disabled itself, the touch toggle button no longer worked and the cursor speed had slowed to a choppy crawl. I immediately packed the thing up for return. I wish I could give this thing less than half a star for the sheer incompetence of the drivers.
