  Basic but hard to find

  Summary: Nikon's EN-EL5 battery is your basic Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. It seems to have a relatively good life, but takes a while to recharge. The charger is a plastic tray with a detachable plug - very poor design. It should be a tray with integrated AC prongs so it plugs directly into the wall.
  
  BUT.....If you are looking for a spare EN-EL5 to have a backup for long shoots, good luck finding it. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, seems to be selling the Nikon OEM battery. Sure, there are a lot of generics out there, but if you use one and it fails or leaks, you've just voided your warranty.
  
  I've contacted Nikon several times to ask why this part is unavailable and they do not respond. Hey Nikon! Do I have to buy a second camera just to get the battery??
  
  Bottom line - Battery is good with some drawbacks. Factory support, however, is the worst it can get.
