Summary: I bought this to protect my panasonic 58" plasma. I really liked the idea of the UPS battery included. I discovered though that it can only handle 640watts of power. My tv alone is 655 watts and the hometheater sound is 550 watts. I also need to include the dvd player and satellite receiver. With only my tv and sound hooked up, the unit was shutting down because it was overloaded. Now i have to pay $60 to send it back. If you have a small plasma and a small hometheater this may work for you. otherwise dont bother with it.

Summary: I am surprised to be the first to review this product. However, it was hard to find. I had to wait over a month for my retailer to order it. That can certainly discourage some buyers.
Before this purchase, my apartment was a home entertainment nightmare. Most electrical storms would black me out. I was also unfortunate enough to lose my big screen to a lightning strike. The repairman said it was damaged because of the electrical surge, but not the strike. Then there's my powering up problems. If I had too many appliance on and started my home theater, my lights would dim and flicker. Even some appliances would shut down.
This is not only a surge protector, but a line conditioner and ups. While I didn't give into the belief of improved picture quality with a line conditioner prior to my purchase, I'm now a believer. I see improved clarity and a significant decrease in snow and interference.
The Belkin has ceased the appliance and dimming problem. It has a convenient battery level and power meter. When I start my system, I see the power meter jump as the components gulp electricity from the initial power-up. However, the Belkin compensates for the drop and keeps a steady supply of electricity to my components.
I'm certain that my electrical situation is more rare than common. However, this unit is well worth the piece of mind. Plus you get more outlets, features, and benefits for the buck when compared to a Monster or other UPS or conditioner.

Over time small voltage fluctuations can cause damage to sensitive home theater equipment. Most battery backup units switch to battery backup mode only if a power outage occurs.
