Do Not Purchase D-Link DP-G310
Pros: Look's Nice
Cons: Was unable to set it up on my network after 2 hour on the phone with tech support. I could only get one computer on the network to print and the other's would only print half the job. Make sure you check the approved printers.

Not worth the time and effort

Summary: After installing and working with this print server, I am not impressed to say the least. On my G wireless network, this print server still takes way too long to receive the data. Even then not all the pages will print. (documents over 10 pages) Too bad I can't send this back to D-Link. I'm not happy with this unit at all!

Tech. support is very helpful.
Pros: Works extremely well with my HP 1200 printer. I can print from the wireless laptop, desktop and from my office. Great product, superb technical service.
Cons: Connections/configuration is a little tricky but I was quite impressed with the D-Link technical support. They basically walked me through the process.

Please step away from the D-Link!
Pros: Looks Nice
Cons: Only works with USB printers on D-Link's "approved printers" list. Funny this is not mentioned in any review or in any of the D-Link advertisments. D-Link's "approved printers" list is quite small. So be very afraid.

Once it works it's great but be aware of supported printers!!
Pros: With supported printers (mines an Epson 1290) it seems to work faultlessly. Contrary to other posts, I found the techie helpline pretty good.
Cons: Epson status monitor does not work so you can't see if you're low on ink without physically connecting the PC in the normal way.

Summary: Easy set-up, but wouldn't work with the one printer I bought it for: a Brother laser printer. After an even worse experience with a LinkSys WPS54G, I picked up a D-Link DPR-1260 which works perfectly. For about the same money, the DPR-1260 supports up to 4 printers, including multi-function printers and scanners.

Summary: I was really worried about this product when I read the reviews on CNET (I ordered before I read the reviews). I was therefore extremely careful during the setup to not make any mistakes. The setup went fine, with my only complaint that the server requires a LAN connection before it can go on the WLAN (of course it doesn't know what wireless network to connect to, but it would have been easier for me to reconfigure my wireless network to some default values than it was to drag my router through the apartment so I could connect it to where the server now sits).
Perhaps DLink has upgraded its firmware so that the server is more robust? My printer was not even on the list of approved printers, but it is printing fine anyway. -
customer service is worthless

D-Link if only you would drop your India customer service like your 800 number drops your calls, that would be a improvement. -
Hours of my life that I can't get back.....
by rlanxton on February 2, 2006

Summary: Over the course of two days, I probably spent 4 hours on the phone with tech support. First, I had to reconfigure my D-Link DI-624 wireless router to get it to work with the 310. That time proved to be useful in that I fixed a nagging problem with my DI-624, but in the end it didn't solve my problems with the 310. First, they say it works with "most" printers. What they didn't say until 2 hours into the conversation is that it doesn't work with multi-function printers. A simple question regarding printer model at the beginning of the conversation could have saved those two hours.
So, they tell me "almost any non-multi-function printer should work." Off to the store I go and I come back with the most basis Epson Stylus I can find. Install it, make some changes in the setup of the 310 (by now I'm getting good at it), nothing, so back on the phone with tech support. Again, we walk through the setup - still nothing. Finally, the guy asks me the printer model and tells me it's not supported. He recommends I stick to the supported list.
There is a list of supported printers buried deep in the FAQ section of the D-link website. The tech guy e-mails me the link. (Belkin's support list jump off the page at you - much more accessable.) To my astonishment, there isn't a single printer listed that I can actually purchase from CompUSA, Office Depot, Circuit City, or MicroCenter - in the store or on-line. I'm sure one of them would work, but how many printer do I have to buy and return before I find one?
I D-Link's defense, I couldn't match up any supported printers listed by Belkin or Linksys. I think the problem lies in that most printers, even budget printers, receive and send infor to/from the computer. Even the basis printers are sending status information back, and that causes problems for the wireless print routers.
I gave up, returned the printer, and returned the 310. Oh well, my entire house is wireless except for the printer. Maybe one day the technology will improve.... -
It may work well, but I wouldn't know.

Summary: I really never got a chance to use this print server because after hours of set-up attempts, I called the tech support line and was told that the procedure for testing whether my printer was compatible with this gadget was NOT REALLY DOCUMENTED in the manual. It should be, because it's a big issue for this print server. In fact, unless the DP-G310 has neurotic relatives or an incurable skin disease, printer compatibility is the biggest problem in its life. I called the company on a weekday and spoke to a technician about my planned purchase of an HP Deskjet 3845. He said they hadn't tested that particular printer, but that the DJ3000 series printers should work. He was wrong. I bought the printer and it still isn't compatible with the DP-G310. I had to decide between the printer and the print server, and I decided to keep the printer. That decision will cost me money, because I'm past the 30-day window to return the print server, but I am going to stick with the product that I have the most faith in. This is NOT it.
Updated
You can already see by the other reviews that this product is a nightmare, but I had to add my 2 bits, because it's the only consolation for the money I flushed down the toilet on this one. I had an old Lexmark inkjet printer that was incompatible with this server, so I called the tech support department at D-Link and told them of an HP I was thinking of buying to replace it. They told me the unit had not been tested on that particular model of HP, but was compatible with other HP products in the same line, so it should work. Well, it didn't. I tried this little genius of a box with two printers, and it couldn't talk to either one. I don't know how that's possible, but somebody at D-Link managed to pull it off. I'm very happy with my new printer, but if I could find the guy who designed this print server, I think the only appropriate response would be to make him eat it.
