The processors in this family are the next logical step up after the Pentium Pro processors, and are to be used for demanding 16-bit and 32-bit applications running under Windows 95, Windows NT, and UNIX. They combine the processing power of the Pentium Pro processors with MMX Technology at higher clock speeds with 512KB of In-Package L2 cache. With Intel's 350MHz Pentium II processor you'll not only get a boost in processing speed but you'll also enjoy increased system bus bandwidth. This processor is designed for a 100MHz system bus, allowing you to take full advantage of Pentium II power by feeding more information to the processor. The 100MHz system bus combined with the Pentium II's own Dual Independent Bus architecture will give all of your applications more room to breathe than they've ever had. The Pentium II(R) Processors feature a S.E.C. (Single Edge Connector) Cartridge that is different than the PGA (Pin Grid Array) packaging that most processors use. This new format is only compatible with new motherboards that support Intel's new Slot 1 connector. It will not work with older Pentium processor sockets. This new packaging technology offers greater flexibility in combining processor speeds with L2 cache. The processor components themselves are mounted on a substrate and enclosed in a plastic and metal enclosure which connects to the motherboard by a single edged connector instead of multiple pins. With the current PGA technology closing in on performance and pincount limits, Intel created this new processor package to address these limitations. With the new SEC Cartridge, higher performance processors can become available with headroom for even more performance, and an in-package L2 cache that allows the CPU core to communicate with it at a higher speed. This processor will require motherboards with a retention mechanism that secures the processor in the slot to prevent shock and vibration damage. The heatsink fan is also different from previous models, requiring power from a 3-pin power header from the motherboard. Intel furnishes a 3 year Limited warranty on their Boxed Pentium II(R) Processors.
