A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE!
by Drewster911 on November 20, 2005
Pros: 1080p that looks great with any source on the market, the ALL black cabinet is classy looking with no annoying silver, 62" tops a normal 60" TV in screen size, fits perfectly in a corner viewing
Cons: the set-up menu is slightly awkard but easy to master

Summary: After some extensive research on projection HDTV's I was all set to purchase the much hyped Sony 60" SXRD silicon on crystal, i.e. LYCOS, television. However, after visiting seven display stores I was shocked at how great this new Mitsubishi looked compared to many of its over-hyped rivals. It was on par with the Sony SXRD, and about $1000 cheaper. Also, if you have a wife who is more concerned about the actual asthetic look of the TV cabinet, and less concerned about the TV screen's picture, then this sleek, flat-black 62" is for you. (but the picture is great as well, and it is true 1080p capable)
The Sony SXRD's made the mistake of putting gigantic silver speakers (unremovable) on the sides of the TV, making the cabinet over 66" wide for the 60" screen. While this 62" wide-screen Mits TV has a cabinet that is only 58.5" wide! (since the speakers are on the bottom) Doesn't Sony realize that most people who spend this kind of money on a TV buy a surround system anyway? And when you are putting a TV in the corner like many of us, those extra 8" of width could be everything to the viewing angles of your room.
Anyway, I have a Hi-Def cable box into this DLP wonder and the picture is amazing and matches any TV I have seen in the stores, including besting the much hyped Samsung 1080p DLP's. The only minor drawback is getting used to the menu system from Mits. But if you are even just a little technology saavy you should be able to figure this TV out in no time.
After hours of online study, I was a little dismayed that some of the over-hyped TV's, like the Samsung and the Sonys, didn't impress as much in person. The Mits doesn't carry the store presence or advertising budgets of some other brands (Tweeter has the model in stock if you would like to take a look at it) but the performance is there. This TV is a brilliant piece of equipment, with an astounding Hi-Def picture. I can honestly say that I never expected to get this kind of performance from a Mitsubushi! Now I have to match some serious audio equipment from Vann's to this TV and I will be in High Definition heaven.21 out of 21 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best DLP on the market
by ack-thbbft on November 23, 2005

Summary: I posted my review of the 52" model (52628), which has the same features and specs. I had to post a message here because I am very confused by CNet's review.
They gave the Sony 1080p model KDS-R60XBR1 a score of 8.8 in their three-way roundup, despite the fact that it had two "poor" and one "average" rating in its performance statistics.
The Mitsubishi had two "average" ratings and all the rest "good", so how is it that the Sony is given a higher Editor's score?
Even the Samsung HL-R6768W had better performance ratings than the Sony, and it was also given a lower score.
Considering how few Mitsubishi reviews there are on CNet, and many more Sony reviews they have, I now wonder at CNet's impartiality.10 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I seem to agree that the editor may have looked at the wrong set or is impartial to SONY. I bought my tv from Ultimate Electronics, and I told the guys all I want is a DLP and I have enough money to have the best. They showed me the 6,000 dollar Sony, told me it was great but severely overpriced, showed me the new Samsung and said it was amazing for 4400, but, (Sales people mind you) they showed me the mitsubishi 62628 and said it's the best dlp money can buy right now, and at 4100 I was giddy. But walking into that store, that was the only TV that stuck out to me, the colors are vibrant, the blacks are black, and the shading is wonderfull. Im not sure what happened, maybe he bought a Lancer and it broke down on him, but this mitsubishi set is the best. 10's all across the board.

Summary: First big screen tv for me. Pretty awesome tv from Mitsubishi. Make sure you have enough viewing distance when purchasing the 62". Picture is excellent on HD channels. Big difference between HD and non HD channels, so take a look at that before you buy it.Controls and remote are relatively easy to use once you get used to the logic and read the manual. HD channels are life like especially sports channels.Cons are that it takes abot 5-10 secs for the TV guide to pop up which gets irritating after a while. I'm used to my comcast box. Other downside of TV Guide is that channels do not appear in consecutive order. They are grouped in some bizarre way. You can change the order manually one channelat a time, but who has the time for that. All the HD channels are from 170 to 186 so it's a pain to scroll that far. Youcan disable the TV guide and use the Mitsu default channel menu which is in cosecutive order, but there is no programming info. Otherwise a good TV

Calibrate it CNET -- geeez!
by robains on December 25, 2005
Pros: once calibrated picture is better than anything I seen to date (and I've seen them all)
Cons: Menu system is not as fluid/user friendly as it could be.

I got mine for $3853 to my door (tax included) -- The Sony is not as good and is $1200 more -- the Sony has black issues which cause me to return it and save myself $1200 in the process.4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Before we pruchased this particular television, we bought a Pioneer 62 in LCD rear projection television. After setting it up and having it for a week, we decided that the picture quality was not what our family was looking for in high defintion TV. I bought the television back after one week of ownership and bought the Mitsubuishi WD-62628 which was rich in all color spectrums. The INHD channels are truly a marvel. I expect the technology built into this particular unit will serve my family for years to come. Oh by the way, shop around for a service plan that includes the replacement of the bulbs for at least 4 years. I have, with added piece of mind you will have years of trouble free owndership.

Summary: I've come to the conclusion that I should agree with my eyes and ignore what the critics say. That's much more rational then agreeing with the critics and trying to ignore what my eyes say. Another top magazine and website rate the Hewlett-Packard DLP as close to the worst in a contest to pick the best HD TV. Of course, after reading C/NET's reviews a few months ago, I thought I had made a huge mistake buying this Mitsubishi. Maybe the Sony LCOS 3-chip sets that I viewed at the Good Guys weren't adjusted properly. But when I viewed a HD reel of lush and green jungle, the set looked absolutely terrible. I've never seen so much distortion. I'm sure C/NET's testing equipment is accurate. I'm just not so sure that their staff take into account actual viewing experience. I had about 20 of my friends over for the Super Bowl, and several of them have HD sets. All of them gasped at the Mitsubuishi's picture...it was THAT good.

Summary: I think the critics missed the boat on this one. The high definition channels are the best I have seen! Some of the non-H channels are a bit grainy but I think that is the cable signal because most of them look good. Mitsubishiu brings in a solid reputation and a great product with this set. I looked for six months and side by side I thought this was the best in the store - including the sony
