Reliability problems and lousy service spoil an otherwise fine product.

Cons: Poor service network, months long wait for repairs.

Summary: My four-month old, 73" Mitsubishi TV failed five weeks ago, and according to Mitsubishi's "Customer Relations Department", it will take up to additional 6 weeks to get the parts. Add at least one week to get the shop to send someone out and this warranty repair will take at least TWO MONTHS and possibly more than THREE MONTHS to be completed.
I've owned 3 Mitsubishi big screens in the past 8 years. While the picture and features of the sets have been very nice, I've had reliability problems with all three, including this model. Failure of an expensive item like this within the first six months is annoying and inconvenient. Mitsubishi's poor service network and extraordinarily long service times have spoiled this customer's experience completely.
I've had nearly identical service delays with all three sets, starting in 1999. Each set has taken two to three MONTHS to get repaired under warranty after failure. When this kind of problem occurs repeatedly over eight years, one must conclude that this kind of poor service is EXACTLY what Mitsubishi strives for. Very disappointing.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Thrilling Detail and Color Accuracy
by fotoose on August 29, 2007
Pros: 1. Great detail and contrast 2. Brightness that can handle the brightest ambient light conditions 3. Very accurate color reproduction
Cons: Speakers have a harsh metalic sound. Female voices are especially grating.

Summary: We bought the WD-73734 and we are delighted with it. The speakers can use improvement, but we expected that from the product specs and the sound in the stores. We hope to remedy that with our own speakers and receiver, if we can get them to work. The set was picture-perfect out-of-the-box, though we toned down bulb setting to conserve bulb life, and use "natural" setting at night due to brilliance of other settings. Colors do not wash out even under our very bright ambient light during the day. This set has astounding color accuracy, even the greens and shades of black. We are happy with our choice.

Sorry to have to report that the screen now has a dim glow replacing that wonderful picture. The dealer will be swapping a new TV for the old new TV, next week. We hope for better luck.Updated
Sadly, I have to report another issue. About a month after the switch-out set was received, we lost sound for approx. a second at a time. This loss became more frequent, then resolved itself. Then the problem recurred but became more frequent. One day we lost sound for 2 hours and it then came back as mysteriously as it was lost. Now it is just a loss for a second or so, but too frequently to tolerate. The picture occasionally blanked as well, but not often.
Since our dealer could not send a tech to our area for a month, and I did not want to deal with company, the dealer allowed us to, ineffect, trade-up, for a reasonable price. We are hoping the 73833 is better.
It is fair to note that other folks have not had trouble with Mitsubishi. Maybe we are just unlucky.Updated
Sadly, I have to report another issue. About a month after the switch-out set was received, replacing the set that lost the picture, we lost sound on the new one for approx. a second at a time. This loss became more frequent, then resolved itself, for a while. Soon thereafter, the problem recurred but became more frequent. One day we lost sound for 2 hours and it then came back as mysteriously as it was lost. Another time we lost it for only a few minutes. However, we still have a repeating loss of sound for a second or so. Rarely, the picture blanks momentarily as well, or a while band shows on the lower third of the screen. Mostly, the sound interuptions are the issue.
Since our dealer could not send a tech to our area for a month, and I did not want to deal with manufacturer, the dealer kindly allowed us to, ineffect, trade-up, for a reasonable price. We are hoping the 73833 is better.

The TV has performed well, except one small problem.
by Jamnew on January 26, 2009
Pros: The color and picture is magnificient. The picture is so life like that my jack russell terrier barks at the screen when we have nature shows on.
Cons: I am starting to get the 1 second sound drop out that other owners have complained about.
Summary: Fantastic picture, user friendly, but until Mitsubishi solves the sound drop out problem I would not buy this tv.

Summary: I bought the TV about a week ago now and could not be happier with my purchase. The TV looks great with very good colors and picture detail. The only think I don't like about it I knew going in and that is it will upscale my video games that display in 720p to 1080p which I would rather keep in its native display. Overall it is the best TV that I looked at for the price and picture quality. Would definately recommend to anyone who wants a bigger TV.

worth every dollar!
by mcvey_24 on January 16, 2008
Pros: Looks great with the HDMI setup. Great Deal.
Cons: If you have regular cable without the HDMI setup, its not recommended. With such a big screen, One could count the pixels!
Summary: If you should purchase this tv, I would recommend having all of the monster cables. From a power surge, to the sound, to the HDMI.
