Summary: I am so happy that I waited for this television. The LED engine blows away the projection lamp. You can tell right out of the box the difference between the two. The set is quiet and it does not run near as hot as the projection lamp models. The picture was flawless. However, the sound was not that great form the unit itself, but who cares, you should have a separate sound system anyway for this monster television.
The owner's manual was very long and confusing. And I was not a big fan of the remote control. Oh well, I guess I will have to go out and my one of those new universal remotes.
I got a great deal on the TV ($2495 incl shipping) from Data Vision in NYC. The service and shipping was excellent. Needless to say, I am hooked on the Samsung LED model. You cannot go wrong! Enjoy

Summary: The TV is absolutely great. The only issue I have was with busted power supply. TV worked for about 5min then cut off and would not come back on. Samsung was very helpful and did not fight with having it repaired. The sent a tech who had it fixed in 3 days. Would of been 2 days but he ordered the wrong part. Very pleased with purchase and am looking forward to enjoying it for years to come. Also of note is the bulb life expectancy of 20,000 hours for the LED version compared with 3,000 - 6,000 for the standard DLP with color wheel.

Excellent TV for the price, picture quality and clarity is great...

Pros: Price, picture (quality and clarity), no color-wheel, no lamps to replace (LED's)
Cons: Built in speakers aren't the best quality (but that's easily fixed) and I'm not fond of the remote (once again, easily fixed)
Summary: My wife and I recently purchased the HL-T6187S from Sears (11.04.07) and got a great deal ($1600). I'd done a lot of research on DLP, LCD and ...

Summary: My wife and I recently purchased the HL-T6187S from Sears (11.04.07) and got a great deal ($1600). I'd done a lot of research on DLP, LCD and Plasma TVs; since my wife and I are avid gamers, I chose the DLP's to negate the risk of burn-in. While doing research on the DLP TVs, I found a lot of complaints about the high cost (and frequency) of replacing the lamps; then I stumbled upon the HL-T5087S (50' version) while I was @ Circuit City buying a DVD. Once I got home, I started doing research on the Samsung HL-Txx87S-series online and found that I no longer had to worry about replacing the lamps.
We love this TV. We already had the HD TiVo hooked up to our old 32' LG LCD (which was moved into the bedroom now that we purchased the Samsung) and it looks amazing. We also have an up-converting DVD player; and even though it's not true HD, they still look damn good.
Even though I love this TV, it's not perfect. As stated above, the integrated speakers aren't the best; but buying a home theater system will quickly solve that issue. I also do not like the remote, but the Logitech Harmony 880 we already had cleared that up. I have to say that my major complaint with the TV was a couple of 'lag' problems while gaming; however strategic placement of the Wii sensor-bar solved that and we haven't had any problems since (I've also been told that buying the wireless sensor-bar will help that, but I haven't tried it to confirm).
All-in-all I do not regret this purchase at all. The TV is overall an exceptional value, wonderful to watch and I'm extremely satisfied.

Summary: I had a Pioneer rear projection for years until it died in August. This was on display next to a new Pioneer Plasma and I was amazed at what I was seeing side by side. I bought the 61" model, super bright and clear picture, the lower heat produced by it was also a nice plus. The setup was very easy; the menus are well placed and designed. The darker colors and blacks show up fine, this was one of the main selling points for me, this model really delivers without the over the top price tag. I/O's are more than adequate, of course with HDMI there is little need for anything else but they are there if you need them. I see LED powered HD systems as the new workhorse for larger screen televisions; lower power consumption, less heat and longer life are hard facts to argue with.

Summary: The LCD engine is light years ahead of standard DLP. In my opinion, it produces some of the best looking HD out there, even at close range. Plus, there is no bulb to replace every 18-24 months, making this unit $1,000 cheaper to operate over 10 years. Also, because there is no lamp, there is motor whine that some DLP TV's makeup, and picture startup is instant even on energy saving mode, as opposed to some DLP's that take 30-45 to warm up prior to displaying a picture. Only real downside is that onboard sound is mediocre at best, but since most people will use this with a surrond system, this ussue may be moot. Also, the standard TV picture is okay, and a regular DLP may be slightly better at displaying SDTV.

Summary: The TV has a great picture. Very clear and bright. The inputs are on the right side and very easy to get to. The thin frame is nice. The screen is huge. The speakers seem to be the best of any TV I've had.
However, the TV died after 10 minutes of use. The picture just went away, and the TV would not turn on again. Samsung technicians came out the next business day and replaced the power supply. The TV worked for two hours and then had the same failure. Another repair is scheduled. Maybe it will eventually get fixed or replaced??

Summary: If you are thinking about buying this TV you have a big room, you already have an HD source, and are probably planning on getting or have some type of surround sound system to boot.
If all of the above are not true this TV ain't for you.
I won't go into detail about how great images look on this TV except to say that it is probably better than any plasma or LCD you can get at any size.
The sound is functional, but if you have a screen this big you are probably planning on sitting 10-15 feet away. A room that large won't be adequatly filled with the 10W of sound produced by this TV. Also, because you need a video input source (cable box) and an audio output source (home theater system) to take advantage of the TVs features, the remote that comes with it is just not useful. It can't control audio devices and it isn't programmable.
This is a great TV, but it ain't small and should be used only as a part of a larger entertainment system for a large room otherwise you can find a better buy for less money.
The LED source was the lynchpin that holds this thing together. Make sure you drop the extra $200 up front. You will save a lot in the long run.

Summary: Best picture quality in any TV I have ever had and this is my 3rd HDTV. If you are looking to hang on a wall, it is not an LCD or Plasma, but if you have the room the picure quality is amazing especially for the price. I've heard that the TV makers are all stopping production on rear projections so better get one of these while you can or you will wind up having to buy a plasma or LCD for much more money.
