  20 uses, spring mechanism broke

  Summary: A friend got this screen for free w/ purchase of projector in May of 2005. He typically projected images directly on the wall because of the clumsy nature of the screen. He estimated that he'd used the screen at the very most 20 times before he gave it to me. Within 12 hours of having the screen in my possession (and the second time I used it), there was a loud cracking noise when pulling the screen down. Upon discovering that the warranty had expired two months earlier, I disassemlbed the the unit to find that the paramount, but precariously placed, piece of plastic that works with the spring mechanism had shattered. There was no inordinate amount of force applied when pulling down the screen and, again, it had only been used a dozen-two dozen times.
  
  When I called to request a replacement plastic piece, it was acknowledged that this is a frequently broken part, but I was told that they would not send me a replacement. I was also told to go ahead and fill out a form requesting that the entire unit be replaced since the warranty had just expired.
  
  I recieved a message back stating that I could pay $59 + $40 s/h to have the screen refurbished. That, with the warning that "The refurbished unit will have a one year warranty but only for mechanical issues, meaning, the screen may have some cosmetic blemishes that won't be covered under warranty."
  
  In other words, for the same price I could purchase a brand new screen with a full warranty, they'd be willing to patch up my old one with a limited warranty.
  
  Poor quality, poor warranty, poor customer service, poor overall experience.
