Summary: From the time I opened the box till now, all I have said is "WOW". This gadget has yet to stop impressing me. I had a 10 year old RadioShack radar detector that was finally at its end. I live in VA where radar detectors are illegal and the old on finally got me pulled by a RDD (Radar Detector Detector). I am used to a detector that only goes off once you can see the cop. The 8500 give you ample time to slow down, take it off the dash, turn it off and still have time to speed up before the cop ever comes in sight. I love this thing! $300 at Best Buy, saved me 3 times in the same day as I purchased it. WELL WORTH THE MONEY. What is the point is spending $200 on one that might not go off?

Good product but, leaks "X-band"
Pros: Great range sound display and looks sleek. One of the top 3 radars out there. Good "value" for the money though.
Cons: Leaks x-band. To test this, have a better detector in another car like a Valentine 1 and you will see that Valentine 1 will point this out to you and the direction of the offender.

Summary: This is the first radar detector I have bought and it has performed time and time again. Its the same one my dad and cousin have and all three of us researched to find the best one. The only thing you need to know is keep it on highway as often as possible for maximum detection range. It tends to take a little longer in auto because its trying to filter out false signals. Also you have to turn pop detection on when you first buy it. And there is an option to turn the volume up from the program menu. For people like me who have the music up really loud. Over all its awesome and it hasnt failed me yet!

Summary: Simply the best radar detector I have ever owned. It is in a class all by itself. It's user interface is simple and effective. The fact that it can be upgraded in the future is a big bonus. Plus, I can program it. It offers all four types of radar protection, k, ka, x, and laser. If you have the money and want a radar detector this is one is for you.
It has saved me from getting busted for speeding three time this week alone. My brother-in-law has one in each of his cars and they have never let him down. I highly recommend it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great sensitivity. Loud Alerts, even with windows open.
by TickingMind on October 20, 2012
Pros: Good display. Loud alerts. Great sensitivity.
Cons: Detectable. Does NOT hide itself well to Spectre RDD systems. If your looking to be invisible to RDD's, this is NOT the device you want. A shame, because if it was, this would be the best bang for the buck.
Summary: A great detector. On open stretches of highway this unit really shines. Nice and loud. Great display. Do not count on this unit being invisible to RDD's such as ...
