The good: Apple's iPod Touch comes with a new color, a new price, and feature-packed OS. It records HD video, chats over video or iMessages, checks your e-mail, keeps your appointments, connects to the cloud, rents movies, plays music, takes pictures, and plays more games than any of its competitors.
The bad: Photo quality doesn't hold up to the iPhone 4's; there's no GPS, and no option for 3G data service.
The bottom line: The iPod Touch is the best iPod yet, offering all the fun of the iPhone experience without a carrier contract or monthly bill.

Summary: I have always been an Apple hater. I had one of the old ipod nanos and I really hated them. They were a pain to handle and the interface was inconvenient. My previous MP3 was very basic and I really wanted one that could run apps and games, take photos, go on the internet..that kind of stuff. When I heard about the ipod touch 4g, I decided I would give Apple a chance, and I was very surprised. Since this is my first ipod touch, I don't know about any updates compared to the older ones, so I'll just talk about everything I like about it as compared to a regular/basic MP3 player.
above I wrote "though I personally like this" but that was misleading. I meant that I "personally would like having a better battery." Sorry about that.
The ipod touch 4g has a gorgeous, large touch screen. The graphics are crisp and clean, especially for the cover flow. The touchscreen is very responsive and easy to use. It is very slim, but because of that, they downgraded the camera to .7 megapixels. You can still take decent pictures with it, but they are NOWHERE near the iphone 4's...which is pretty upsetting since they claimed that it would be almost identical to the iphone 4. The front facing camera is really convenient, though the quality is worse than the rear facing. Taking pics requires a lot of effort to find the right lighting, but I got Camera Awesome from the app store and it allows me to change the coloring of the photos and they look a bit better. Personally, I wouldn't mind a slightly thicker size to accommodate a better camera, because for some people the thin size might make it more difficult to handle and easier to drop. The player itself feels extremely sturdy.
A lot people are complaining about the battery and how it is absolutely horrible because it dies after 3 hours of playing Angry Birds or something. Keep in mind that the ipod touch is marketed as an MP3 player, not a gaming system. So don't expect it to last as long as a PSP or something, though I personally like this. However, the battery is nowhere near as good as Apple claims. Maybe 30 hours, but definitely not 40. I would have liked a stronger battery, like that of the iphone's. Running apps, games, and Internet suck the battery's life and although I previously stated that this is primarily a music player, a better battery would have been nice for heavier use. I have to charge every week ever since I started playing Draw Something. However, before I only used it for music and the battery was pretty good. I went about 3 weeks (granted I didn't necessarily use it everyday) with 1-4 hours of music before I had to charge. Also, this was with the backlight at the dimmest setting, airplane mode on (wi-fi and location off), and only music running.
I personally do not like the multitasking system. It's convenient, but since I mostly use it for a few games, minor Internet use, and music it gets really annoying because I have to double tap home and press on the apps and cancel them individually because if I don't, it will kill my battery. This gets really tedious, and I didn't know about this when I first got it and I was wondering why my battery was running down so fast...it's because of multtasking and I had to go through and cancel each thing out individually. I think they should put an option in the settings allowing people to pick if they want it on or off. I also wish there was a sleep and power off setting. The ipod does have a sleep function, but it does not power the system down; it only stops playing music and goes to the lock screen.
Internet searching is quick and zooming in makes it easy to view web pages without squinting. So far I have not experienced any glitches or interface problems. Everything runs very smoothly. Searching through music is quick and easy, because of the scrollbar on the right, which allows you to skip to different letters. Coverflow, though I personally don't really find any real use of, is pretty nice, because it displays all your albums in and you can scroll through it and see what tracks are on them. Creating playlists is extremely simple and convenient! My old player forced me to make them on my computer beforehand, so this was really nice. A built in radio would have been nice, though you can download apps, but many require internet connection, so this won't work on the go. A calendar and note system allow you to organize things and keep track of everything.
Overall, the ipod touch 4g is an excellent music player and can even be called a cell phone with the contract. Obviously, you need wi-fi for internet and the ipod touch 4g is nowhere near as good as the iphone 4, but it is still an excellent system. The price is extremely high, which is why I got an 8GB (still have 2 GB left!). An Xbox 360 system is like the same price. However, if you've got some extra pocket money and are looking for a good music player that allows you to use apps and keep you organized, the ipod touch is a great option.

Summary: This is the probably the best Mp3 you can get that you cannot call anyone on. It really isn't an Mp3 player either because you can do virtually anything on it. It is really simple to use and has very clear picture quality. Browsing is easy and the touchscreen is better than most touchscreen devices out there. It is very light and sleek and you can download many apps on it. 8GB is probably not enough though since you are going to want to put a lot of things on it.

Too Fragile to be useful!
by GAForester on January 26, 2012
Pros: Everything is wonderful ... unless you drop it. Even a short fall can be fatal to the screen. Much more fragile than my 2g touch.
Cons: Too fragile. Screen shattered from an 18" fall. Breaking from a little fall like this is a design flaw.
Summary: My ipod touch fell about 18" and the screen cracked. It is too fragile to be useful. My phone (droid x) and digital camera are delicate but could have withstood ...
Summary: My ipod touch fell about 18" and the screen cracked. It is too fragile to be useful. My phone (droid x) and digital camera are delicate but could have withstood the fall. I only had it 1 week and Apple is charging me 1/2 price to fix the screen. It is a design flaw for this ipod to break from such a short fall. Shame on you Apple.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC540LL/A
- Description: iPod touch has an all-new design that makes it the thinnest, lightest, most amazing iPod touch ever. Holding one is all the proof you need. With its curved design, iPod touch is now a mere 7.2 millimeters thin. Its engineered glass front and stainless steel back feel sleek and smooth in your hand. Turn it on, and you're instantly blown away by the brilliant Retina display. iPod touch is the perfect combination of stunning design and revolutionary technology - brilliant from the outside in. There are lots of reasons you won't want to take your eyes off the iPod touch. The 960-by-640 backlit LCD display, for one. It packs 326 pixels per inch, making it the highest-resolution iPod screen ever. To achieve this, Apple engineers developed pixels so small - a mere 78 micrometers across - that the human eye can't distinguish individual pixels. Even though you can't see them, you'll definitely notice the difference. Text is remarkably sharp and graphics are incredibly vivid. The Apple A4 chip is behind, or rather underneath, all the fun you can have on iPod touch. Apple engineers designed the A4 chip to be a remarkably powerful yet remarkably power-efficient mobile processor. With it, iPod touch can easily perform complex jobs such as multitasking, editing video, and placing FaceTime calls. All while maximizing battery life. And fun. iPod touch just learned some new moves. It includes a built-in three-axis gyroscope. When paired with the accelerometer, the gyro makes iPod touch capable of advanced motion sensing such as user acceleration, full 3D attitude, and rotation rate. Translation: More motion gestures and greater precision for an even better gaming experience. iPod touch captures video with two built-in cameras. It shoots amazing HD 720p video from the back camera. And with its advanced backside illumination sensor, it captures beautiful footage even in low-light settings. All while the built-in microphone records conversations, music, or any audio at the same time. And on the front of iPod touch, the built-in camera is perfect for making FaceTime calls and shooting self-portraits. It's surprising how much fun can fit into something so small. When you put your finger on iPod touch, how does it just start doing what you want it to do? It's a chain reaction, really. The Multi-Touch display layers a protective shield over a capacitive panel that senses your touch using electrical fields. It then transmits that information to the Retina display below it. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flick through photos and enlarge them with a pinch, zoom in and out on a section of a web page, and control game elements precisely. FaceTime on iPod touch lets you hang out, catch up, and goof off with friends in an entirely new way. With just a tap, you can see what your friends are up to - literally. Witness a prank in action. Or watch your friend on the other side of the country crack up at your stories from last night - iPod touch to iPod touch or iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi. And all you need to get started is an Apple ID and an email account. You can choose an email account you already have or, if you prefer, set up a new one. You'll never see fun the same way again.
