The good: The Memorex iWake has a built-in dock for the latest iPod models and also features SRS Wow technology, and a line-in option for nondockable iPods and other MP3 players. The unit has an attractive design, an affordable price, and comes with a remote control.
The bad: The iWake doesn't support radio station presets, and sound quality wasn't the greatest.
The bottom line: Those looking to wake up to their iPod's tunes should consider the Memorex iWake, an affordable clock-radio option with sleeker styling than its competitors. Sound quality could be better, though.

Good, sleek iPod alarm clock
by chronoex on March 25, 2008
Pros: Nice look; big, easily readable display; suprisingly decent sound quality for an alarm clock; no-brainer setup.
Cons: Sound is good for an alarm clock, but not necessarily in comparison of other dedicated docks; remote control is nice but limited in function.
Summary: The Memorex iWake is an excellent value for the money that does exactly what it promises to do and does it well.

Overall it is a fantastic unit. The entire thing takes all of two minutes to set up and get running. Once your iPod (or whatever you feel like playing) is docked you're ready to go. It's easy to use and setup. Changing the time is simple and setting the alarm is just as easy, which is a plus. The display is big and easy to read and a great alternative to regular intensely red alarm displays.
The sound quality isn't exactly tops, but it's certainly not the worst for the money. It's completely usable as an alarm clock and for any user who happens not to be an audiophile it's completely passable as an everyday docking unit. The bass is surprisingly spunky for such a small unit, and the air flow is quite prominent in the rear.
The antenna is a white cable which is pretty easily ignorable, but still sort of annoying and a wart on an otherwise fantastic design. It's best to just tuck that behind the unit or cut it off unless you're absolutely set on radio functionality. The remote is a nice touch, but it has it's moments of unresponsiveness and it's functions are limited. You can play/pause, change tracks and switch modes, but there's no option to actually navigate inside the iPod from a distance, so any changing of albums will have to be done from the iPod itself.
Overall, the pluses certainly outweigh the minuses and Memorex makes a fine iPod dock/alarm clock solution.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Just Perfect
by tutti200 on January 7, 2011
Pros: Last a long time, I have had mine for 6 years. Sound is great and instead of waking up with a jump, it gradually wakes you up with the volume increase.
Cons: Nothing bad to say!
Summary: Highly recommend it. It will last you a long time, worth the money.

Loud and bright!
by RoysterSB on January 18, 2009
Pros: In theory, this is great: an alarm clock/iPod combo. And the remote is cool - a nice touch when I can't reach from my bed to my nightstand!
Cons: The display is sunglasses-bright, even on the low setting. The alarm starts off loud music or buzzer) and progesses to maximum volume within seconds.
Summary: It's too loud as a alarm, and too bright to sleep to.

Summary: For the not-so-picky user, the Memorex iWake is a pretty good iPod docking system. It has some pretty good features about it including: good sound quality, its ability to support the latest (and greatest :) ) iPods, an FM tuner, and its attractive design. However, if you're wanting a system w/ a remote that will actually work for more than 3 - 4 months, you're out of luck.

Horrible Controls

Summary: I purchased the iWake to use listen to my iPod at work. Right from the start I have had problems with the controls. Button pushes on the remote or the base unit only work 50% of the time, or send the wromg command (pressing down on the volume will turn off the power, for example). The controls on the base unit are also very sensitive to static electricity. On dry days, if I touch the radio it will short out the radio and reset the clock. I have to ground myself everytime I touch the radio. With both of these problems, using the iWake gets very frustrating. I would recommend getting a different product with higher quality.
