Summary: i bought the ipal because i love the sound of my tivoli model one and i wanted something portable for the garden powered with battery. unfortunately the sound is not that rich and full when compared to the model one, but it is ok given the size of this little box. the battery seems to last forever. i had it 2 days at work and it still runs from the same charge.
the biggest drawback is that the ipal distorts very quickly, as soon as you turn up the volume quite a bit. it cannot deal well with bass-heavy music and you can hear distortion easily. i would have liked it to get a little louder than this without any distortion. it is not loud enough so that i still cannot use it for my garden-party, but rather have to use my model one, pass some wires and power it with current.
the price is much to high for what one gets. tivoli should think that over.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Just about perfect

Summary: I've had the ipal for several years and cannot say enough good things about it. The battery lasts forever (several days...). The sound is great and full bodied. The tuner is better than the $2000 Denon receiver I have, pulling is more stations. Mine is black and the outer housing has worn off a bit on the edges, nothing serious, but about the only ding I can think of. Worth every penny (and it's a lot of pennies for a radio only). If you care about good sound this is the one to get.

My favorite iPod add on

Summary: I have been using my iPal for about 6 months including a 1500 mile road trip on my Harley. I love that the sound is so rich and full(relative to it's size). It is well built and very functional. I like using it on the road in hotels and in the back yard. I even used it with my FM transmitter and it pulled the signal in very well. It sounds significantly better and is much sturdier than the Altec Lansing In Motion device

great radio, soilid sound
by starwarsyoda9632 on July 18, 2005
Pros: simpile controls, sleek design, best tuner ive seen

Summary: the reason i went for the ipal was because i saw it in tweeter and fell in love. the simple design and digital tuner went beautifly with the ipod. the portability of it was also attractive. i could take it to drive-ins, and all over the place. th e tuner really stands out to me as getting awsome reception. a few monthes after i bought my ipal, my dad bought a wave radio by bose and that was consiterably bigger, no battery, and is a stagering $300. this radio, however, was teh closeest thing i could find to compare the tuner to. on the back, the imputs are also simple. three plugs, in a line, with rubber stoppers to keep the water out. the power cord, aux line, and a 1/8' headphone jack. this isnt your typical stero, its more for audiophiles and music enthusiasts.

Premium price for premium radio with Spartan features
by caponsacchi on May 26, 2010
Pros: Light and rich sounding with telescoping antenna and good sensitivity. No complicated buttons. Quick and accessible knobs. No learning curve.
Cons: It will quickly disappoint in some contexts--namely, big rooms and out-of-doors. Lacks volume and loudness when battery dependent. Very Spartan. It won't charge your iPod or even hold it.

Summary: This is a premium brand at a premium price. To see it rise from $150 (my price) to over $200 is mind-boggling. The Tivoli Model One is a far better value, offering not merely good sound and sensitivity but sound that projects and has some "oomph." Although there's no iPod charger, you would think Tivoli would provide a slot for holding an iPod with such a portable unit. I'd resell mine for 150, but I dropped it, putting a cosmetic dent in it (testimony to its durability, but enough to lower its value sufficiently to make it counterproductive for resale). I still like Tivoli products, their durability and dependability, and find the premium price of the Tivoli stereo (over a thousand), Tivoli clock radio (formerly 200), and Model One (close to 100) far more justifiable. The iPal, however, is not in the same "classic" company, even though the price would have you think so.

Spectacular! Perfect!
by hydorn5 on September 28, 2009
Pros: Rich beautiful sound. Not a boom box. A clear articulator of sound. Play this continuously for 12 hours ton single charge. Take it room to room all day without ever hassling with a plug. Great looks. Small footprint.
Cons: Price. I bought mine 3 or 4 years ago and the price has gone up way too much. Should be around 149 in my opinion. Having said that, I would buy it at the current price if I lost mine because there simply is nothing comparable.

Summary: Non obnoxious totally portable music player and radio. Great quality and styling. Robust. Takes abuse. Sounds fantastic. If you want super high volume dont get this. If you want to fill a room with pleasant volume you will love this. I like it that it does not have a dock but uses a miniplug for the ipod because in my opinion docks often end up damaging ipods/iphones.

Solid. Great sound from this small box. Stunning reception, great company at home.

Summary: In my opinion this is one of the best portable radios on the market. I been using the ipal for about a year, and I never get tyred of it´s sound. At home I got Griffin´s Rocket FM, and it works very well sending music from my playlist in itunes to my ipal. Regarless were I am at my small appartment it works flawless. Piece of advice, when your stream audio with rocket fm, set the itunes and computer´s volume at 50%, them set the volume of your ipal at 75-80%, then you will get best results without noticeable distortion.
