I have a very similar Samsung Fridge and it failed
by RBHodge on May 24, 2013
Pros: None to be had
Cons: Poor service and no ownership on Samsung's side. Representatives only tell you what they can't do.

Summary: Within the first year of purchasing my Samsung fridge the ice maker stopped working. Contacted technical support and am now at the point in which this issue has been ongoing for almost one month There have been 5 service calls to the house in which either my wife or I needed to take time off work to be present and now they want to make a 6th. Additionally I have lost approximately $200 in groceries due to the food freezing and remain with a refrigerator that has been freezing food since 5/14. Additionally I have called, emailed and completed on-line forms requesting assistance and resolution to my issue and ended each interaction with more disappointment than when I started. Stay Away - Buyer Beware!!

Poor Quality Fridge with frequent expensive breakdowns.

Summary: Well, after 4 months of having this new fridge, which I loved the look of, the plastic guide rail for a crisper drawer snapped off and broke in two pieces. I was not handling the drawer in a rough manner and have never had anything in a fridge break before, I'm a 44 year old petite lady. The fridge was under warranty at that point. Then, at 15 months of having the fridge, the STEEL freezer handle broke off, again at the PLASTIC attachment made to break the freezer seal before opening. Again it was me that was left with the handle hanging off of one end of the door. So it wasn't under warranty after the initial 12 months and the bill was over 250.00 dollars with service call included. Then, 3 DAYS AFTER THAT REPAIR, I noticed the interior of the refrigerator section felt pretty warm even with the coolest setting 1 Celsius. So I called the repair centre and the same tech, said it was the cooling fan mechanism or VAPORATOR COVER ASSEMBLY technically speaking after I unloaded all my food out of the fridge so he could get the inside back panel open. The cooling fan was broken. Still waiting for the part. Price estimate over 300.00 to fix with initial service call included. Samsung might make some good products, (not sure), but STAY AWAY FROM SAMSUNG APPLIANCES. Moulding spoiled food and milk, and meats. What a mess and high cost of food waste. I am a single mom of 3 kids and I splurged on what was described to me as a really high quality fridge. STAY AWAY FROM SAMSUNG. I EMAILED THEM PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTION AND GOT NO REPLY. Poor Customer service.

Summary: One small defective part can cost you thousands of dollars. We purchased a Samsung refrigerator (RF4287HARS) from a national well-known department store. The first time the power went out, the fridge came back online with an error related to the freezer temperature. We called the retailer and they sent their repair person. He showed us the correct button sequence to push to clear the error and said it was repaired. Three months later, we found a part that had fallen off of the freezer. We again called the retailer and they sent their repair person. He saw the part that had fallen off the freezer, said it was the thermister which senses the freezer temperature, and that it was not repairable. He also told us that the first repair call was actually a problem with the thermister as well. He said our Samsung refrigerator, an expensive purchase less than 18 months ago, was now a scrap unit due to the defective thermister.
We are loyal, repeat Samsung customers and have purchased Samsung brand for almost all of our major appliances. Up until now, we have been very happy with Samsung products.
Our faith in Samsung is now shaken.
In attempting to get help for the defective fridge from Samsung, we discovered they have loopholes out of the warranty and referred us back to the retailer we purchased the Samsung refrigerator from.
We did not know this when we purchased our refrigerator. Now we are left with a pile of scrap that cost us thousands of dollars.
Note that having the retailer service your appliance does not count with Samsung as a documented issue because it must be a Samsung repair person to service it. Therefore you can think you've reported an issue under warranty by having the retailer service your appliance, but Samsung will not acknowledge it if you ask the warranty to be enforced. The retailers don't usually tell you this, as they want you to call their repair service.
Save yourself trouble and money and find a brand that the manufacturer stands behind.
