The good: Solid universal remote with good ergonomics; updated wizard-style setup software is optimized for tech novices and works on Windows or Mac PCs; ultra-affordable price tag.
The bad: The Harmony 300 only controls four devices and requires a computer with Internet access to configure. For just $30 more, the step-up model adds an LCD screen and uses the activity-based commands that Harmony is known for.
The bottom line: If you're looking for a cheap and easy universal remote--and you can live with its streamlined feature set--the Logitech Harmony 300 is a great choice.

Does not allow for digital over-the-air presets.

If you intend to use this remote with digital over-the-air, this remote will not allow you to save favorites using the period. For example, channel 2.1 is not programmable. I wish I knew that before I purchased. This does not make the remote very usable for me, so I will return it.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: easy to program, lots of device support, easy to customize, love the ir learning feature
Cons: no backlight, not the most straight forward programming interface,

Summary: This is a great remote to eliminate extra remotes, and allow some additional customization without breaking the bank. However, the harmony 650 offers easier -more reliable operation, better interface, and easier customization, with a greater range of options just under $100. I feel that it's better bang for the buck.

by robertgarand on November 2, 2010
Pros: Set it up in minutes for 4 devices via web application and usb cable, vcr, tv, amplifier and dvd. customized special functions easilly. Learning ability of remote is very good. It was the first remote to work on insignia amplifier, ns-r5101hd
Cons: no backlight on buttons. the remote is a bit long and ergonomy could have been better. maximum of 4 devices. was enough for me, but just to make you aware.

Summary: I was afraid to buy logitech since i had trouble with joystick in the past, not very durable. And I hope i won't be disappointed to give them another chance. I also read on their own forum that support is poor, so if your remote seems to have the slightliest problem, return to store immediatly, cos mine worked great right away with very old and very new devices. well worth it's price.

Solid set of Features for an affordable price
by asheeha on October 17, 2010
Pros: Intuitive online programming process. Setup is a breeze via included USB cable. One of the most important features is the design of the remote. It has the look and feel of the other higher end harmony remotes. Feels great in your hand.
Cons: No backlighting on keys, limited activity functions, rocker button sometimes lags in my DVR menus
Summary: Overall, I am thrilled with this remote. I wasn't willing to spend 100 dollars on one of the other harmony remotes, after all a remote control serves a basic ...
Summary: Overall, I am thrilled with this remote. I wasn't willing to spend 100 dollars on one of the other harmony remotes, after all a remote control serves a basic purpose thus why I feel like this remote is suitable for most people. The design of the remote is key, and logitech has paid attention well to the feel of the remote in your hand. It does indeed feel unobtrusive when using it. This is much different and a lot nicer than most basic remote controls which have that bulky and poor feel when you use them. The Harmony 300 also compliments a BluRay player well. It has the necessary coloured keys which control key features on a bluray player.

Great controller at very reasonable price
by b4davis on April 20, 2010
Pros: Easy to set up. Flawlessly imported commands for TV, cable box and DVD player. Button layout is very logical and it even has a page up/down rocker.
Cons: Occasionally, the Watch TV button powers on the cable box but not the TV.
Summary: It took me longer to record my device model numbers than it did to set up the controller. After one tweak, I've not found any function I can't ...
Summary: It took me longer to record my device model numbers than it did to set up the controller. After one tweak, I've not found any function I can't control on three devices. The Harmony 300 replaced 3 separate controllers. Finally, a controller that works at an amazingly low price.

Don't expect a real Harmony remote.
by Grifter02 on September 3, 2012
Pros: - Online interface automatically sets up your devices
- Solid build quality
- Strong IRCons: - No "Activities" (the feature that makes a Harmony remote special)
- Just a glorified universal remote
- Can't set the TV's input for the "Watch TV" button on most TVs, including the two I bought these for, but it depends on your TV modelSummary: I've owned several Harmony remotes and I've loved them all, they're really great products. Summary: I've owned several Harmony remotes and I've loved them all, they're really great products. However, when I decided to get two more, one for my bedroom and one for the upstairs living room, I figured I didn't need the expensive models with the LCD screens since these were relatively simple setups. So I bought two 300's and found that Logitech completely stripped out the features that make a Harmony a Harmony. When I saw the package in the store, I assumed the 4 device buttons were "Activity" buttons. They are not (I hadn't read any reviews first, this impression was based purely on owning other models and seeing the 300 in the store). You only get one faux-Activity, the "Watch TV" button, which just turns on multiple devices, but does not select the correct TV input (unless you have a special model with "direct-select input buttons", which neither of mine have, apparently, even though both original remotes have individual buttons for each input). Other than that, this functions like any other cheap universal remote, you select the device you want to control, then the buttons work that device, but you have to switch back to the TV and manually change the input, then back to the device to use it, then manually turn off each device when you're done.
I understand that this is the bottom-of-the-line cheap model, but there's no reason they had to remove the Activites feature. They already removed the LCD screen and backlit buttons, wasn't that enough to justify the jump to the next model up? Without Activities, they should have just called this the "Logitech Basic Universal Remote" to avoid confusion for people who expect certain functionality from the Harmony line. I'm very disappointed in Logitech because of this. -
Never worry about being able to find a device's code!
by beantowndez on June 14, 2012
Pros: Cheap
New products are constantly added to the online directory
Easy to setup
Can re-assign buttons
Works with a 12 year old surround sound receiver and a brand new plasma TV
EXCELLENT value for the price!!!!!!Cons: Took a bit of time to learn how to program (only because I don't really feel like watching the tutorial video-- I wanted to watch TV)
Because it needs to control EVERYTHING the buttons are kinda crammed. -
