The good: Powerful universal remote with great ergonomics; color LCD screen surrounded by five contextual buttons; Web programmable via Windows or Mac PCs; excellent button layout and overall design; supports custom sequences/macros; sub-$100 price tag.
The bad: Only controls five devices; requires Internet-connected PC to program; adding favorite channel icons is a bit more difficult than it should be; an additional $20 gets you the step-up model rechargeable batteries.
The bottom line: The Logitech Harmony 650 is one of the best universal remotes you can buy for less than $100.

A disappointing product from a usually stellar company.
by TeeManMac on December 13, 2012
Pros: You can drop it and it won't break. Haven't tried throwing it at a wall - but am tempted often...
Cons: When turning on target devices, the remote often doesn't activate an appliance. (yes - it was correctly programmed for each device) Despite this failure, it still demands to be pointed at the targets for an insufferably long period of time. Futility!
Summary: It also displays and holds submenus, without notice or request or logic, for extended periods.
Oh, and online programming is cumbersome.
The original Harmony was far superior.Summary: It also displays and holds submenus, without notice or request or logic, for extended periods.

Buy if you're tired of juggling remotes!
by jtm12180 on November 29, 2012
Pros: Can control everything with one single remote. While you have to use the internet to program, Logitech makes the actual process VERY easy...basically walking you through it all. It is very easy to control receivers, tv's, and even DVR's.
Cons: - "All off" button does not always turn off the devices that I have it programmed to turn off
- it can eat up battery life pretty quick. I passed on buying the model with rechargeable batteries though because of negative things I had read.Summary: Even with the two minor "cons" listed above, this remote is the real deal, especially for the money. Summary: Even with the two minor "cons" listed above, this remote is the real deal, especially for the money. If you have several pieces of equipment in your home entertainment center, do yourself a favor and buy one these. I had put it off for a long time, and was kicking myself once I finally bought it saying, "why did I wait so long?!?!"
Meant to add, I've seen these at Costco before for around $40.00

Random resets!
by den24601 on November 27, 2012
Pros: Nice layout and easy to program. Easy to install custom icons for favorite TV channels.
Cons: 50-50 it resets itself. For example, while in TV mode, with the buttons assigned to TV functions, it will often reset to a power-on state, and buttons lose their assignments. Very annoying. There are awkward workarounds to the 5 device limitation.
Summary: If they fix random resets, it would be worthwhile.

I have 2 of these and they're great
by Cliff3 on October 20, 2012
Pros: Moderate price, control multiple devices with a single remote
Cons: Device programming software is kind of funky

Summary: I have had a total of 4 Harmony remotes that I have been using over the past 6 years: an 880, a Harmony One, and now these 2 650's. The 650's seem to be the sweet spot in this product line in terms of price vs. functionality. I don't have all that many devices to control so the 5 device limitation is not a limitation for me.
The device programming software is very modal. I use it on a Mac so I don't know if this is true of the Windows version as well. It is also clumsy in the way it supports multiple remotes in that it requires multiple accounts. Programming a device is reasonably straightforward.
Overall I am pretty happy with these remotes. -
Good when it works.
by cnetatlantadog on October 17, 2012
Pros: Nice idea and works great when the hardware does not have issues.
Cons: The battery or some thing is lose in this remote and that makes it to reset the remote often and so it won't remember what you have started seeing. It is pain to get back to what you were controlling before.
Summary: Good when it works.

Won't program, bad support

Summary: I was able to program the remote once and it worked very well. Really liked the Help button. However, after changing one of my components, I have spent the last 3 weeks going back and forth with support on why I kept getting errors on trying to change the programming. The final solution they gave me was to change ISP's even though I had tried from my house and from a friend's house. I don't like the remote enough to go thru the hassle and expense of change my ISP. I'm just going to buy a different brand. I could not recommend this product to anyone.

Summary: This remote couldn't be easier to use. I'm not sure how some people manage to have issues with this. Set up is extremely straight forward as are the buttons ("Watch TV", "Watch a Movie", etc.) not sure on the confusion from other reviewers but the remote is great for the price tag. Every once in a while it does reset but follow the onscreen instructions (15 sec. maybe) and you're good to go. It also doesn't have rechargeable batteries but I knew that going into it and still bought it.

One remote does it All. Best line on the market.
by GeorgeMontiel on August 21, 2012
Pros: Works reliably as advertised. Virtually All remote codes are in the database. If it doesn't already know, you can teach it in two quick steps. Once set up - you're done! Replace or upgrade your remote? You're back in business in minutes!
Cons: Initial programing, though simple, will take a bit of time. Price could always be lower.
Summary: Have had a Logitech remote for over a dozen years - and have never looked back.

If you can't figure out how to program it, you shouldn't have so many remote-controlled tech devices in the first place. Get an 8 year-old to walk you through it. Tip them. -
Horribly difficult to program.
by hgoldman77 on April 14, 2012
Pros: Organizes several components on one remote.
Cons: "Forgets" its controls over certain components, virtually impossible to correct.

Works great!
by dougwattsup on February 24, 2012
Pros: Works with about every conceivable device.
One button gets you to your activity.
Logical layout.Cons: The setup wizard is a bit tricky but I think it has to be since the array of devices and functions is so complex.
Summary: A great device. I actually have the 750 which is rechargeable and can operate more devices (although I only have four). We got my in-laws the 650 which works the ...
Summary: A great device. I actually have the 750 which is rechargeable and can operate more devices (although I only have four). We got my in-laws the 650 which works the same way and they love theirs. When I first read a review about this device I was skeptical it worked as advertized. But, I asked for one for Xmas and got one and am very pleased. My wife, who hates the myriad of remotes, loves the thing as well. One clicker to rule them all!
