The good: The Logitech Harmony 670 is a throwback to the comfortable peanut-shape design of old, with DVR-friendly buttons placed in the center. It retains the same great features and functionality that the Harmony line is known for, such as activity or device-based command, PC/Mac programmability, and a contextual LCD screen.
The bad: The 670 isn't as sleek or as stylish as the more-recent "flat" Harmony models. Moreover, it lacks the rechargeable battery/cradle and color LCD found on higher-end Harmony models. Even with an upgrade in place, the Web-based programming can still intimidate nontechie users. And the remote's silver finish scuffs pretty easily.
The bottom line: The Logitech Harmony 670 may not be the coolest-looking universal remote, but it's one of the easiest to use, especially for DVR users.

Able to get rid of 5 other remotes!
by psgmolina on December 13, 2009
Pros: Controls all of my devices, easy to use and internet updates are easy to set up
Cons: Non so far and i have had this for a year now. Love the fact that my wife and even my 7 year old just have to hit the "Watch TV" activity button or "Play Game" and the remote does all the work!
Summary: Could not ask for a better remote for what i use it for.

Lived up to nearly expectation I held
by macgruber on June 20, 2009
Pros: Highly programmable, and really does replace every remote you'll ever own (minus the remotes that operate via bluetooth or through RF). You can customize the buttons on the remote, and have a list of commands that you can access through the LCD.
Cons: after dropping it a number of times, my LCD screen finally broke. The remote itself still functions, however it has lost a lot of usefulness because I can't do more complex commands other than the ones I have memorized.
Summary: I used this remote all the time, and became very accustomed to not having a mess of remotes everywhere. Now that my screen is broken, I have to have my ...
Summary: I used this remote all the time, and became very accustomed to not having a mess of remotes everywhere. Now that my screen is broken, I have to have my other remotes out if I need to change my surround sound setups or a setting on the TV. As a result I'm looking into getting it repaired. In the event I can't fix it for cheap, I'm going to look into buying a new one, or a better one. I would hands down recommend this remote to anyone, and I would also recommend not dropping it!

good remote for the price

Summary: Two negative are once the remote is in an incorret mode (example, you press a button to change away from the TV mode), it is difficult to get it back. Then you have to access the audio mode for the sound, cable mode for the channel, etc.
This remote is too fragile. As remotes normally get dropped, or knocked off the couch, this one gets damaged. The USB connector inside the remote is broken so it can no longer be programmed. After about 18 months, the display has several dark horizontal lines so the display is getting hard to read.
This is the only remote I have used, so it is hard to compare it to others. -

Summary: This is one of the best remotes I have had. I was using 4 or 5 remotes before I got ahold of this one. The only issue I have is there is no Blue tooth functionality (which was not a problem until I gained a PS3) and its a little battery hungry.
Depending on how much we use it (which is quite often) she eats AAA's pretty quickly, I have replaced them about 1 every 3 months or so.
Also the finish has scratched off on places where we set it on the table, but honestly, I only care for functionality not the look. My Wife who is not real technical was able to pick this right up and use it with no problem. Love how it turns on and sets everything with a click of a button. -

Fragile unstable problematic
by lowball1261 on February 11, 2009
Pros: works great when it works i really liked it for the 4 months before it broke
Cons: I had nothing but problems, i kept getting RMA and had issues with one after another. LCD display goes blank (this happened twice) the usb plug broke off and then shook around inside the remote. my kid fell asleep on one and after that is was DOA.
Summary: Needs to be more robust, like i said it works great when it works.

Poorly designed layout, terrible setup
by maury.markowitz on February 9, 2009
Pros: In any general sense the 670 does what it says it will do - it lets you control your AV stack and dispense with all your other remotes.
Cons: Default setup is unusable. User setup is absolutely abysmal. Physical layout requires serious finger-bending for the most common operations.
Summary: I'm going to separate this review into two parts: things that apply to the 670 only, and things that apply to any Logitech remote.
Let's start with the ...Summary: I'm going to separate this review into two parts: things that apply to the 670 only, and things that apply to any Logitech remote.
Let's start with the 670 specifics. I'm willing to bet that 90% of all control inputs to any remote control can be divided into three: on/off, volume and change channel. So with this in mind, I'm left wondering why the engineers placed the volume and channel controls in a place where they cannot be easily operated with one hand. If you're right handed, the channel control is placed "under" your thumb, which makes it extremely difficult to operate, you have to sort of twist your thumb and hand to get to it. The volume control is a bit of a reach, but you can get at it one handed. Everything else on the system absolutely requires two hands. If that were not enough, the main buttons are too small, for no obvious reason.
Making matters worse is their physical construction; the buttons are "loose" in the case pressing down on the mechanism inside. This means that unless you push right down on the middle they can rotate and jam, requiring a lot of force to move. The entire control just feels cheap, which is disappointing for something that costs more than an iPod.
Now let's move onto the software side, which effects the entire lineup. Simply put, it's horrid. It's difficult to use, buggy, confusing and downright ugly. But overarching it all is the fact that the out-of-box settings are simply wrong for every device I had.
I was all excited when I saw that most of the devices in my AV stack, some new, some old, were on the Logitech list. This excitement turned foul when I realized that, with only one exception, they were all wrong. For instance, my Pioneer AV receiver was on the list, but every single setting was wrong - the remote needs to step through inputs but Logitech had it set to move directly to them, it has seven inputs, but Logtech said eight and were all labeled wrong, and many of the options were missing while others that it could not do were listed. I had to reprogram every single piece of equipment by hand. My TV still doesn't work right, because in spite of the setup looking correct, the remote is convinced it has one more input than it actually does and when you switch from DVD to Cable it ends up on an unused input.
Come on! How hard is it to fix this? Let us users upload new profiles or something, but the current state of affairs is brutal. There's not THAT many devices out there, and if users send you a list of the equipment's real capabilities these problems would go away. In the meantime, I consider these devices a brutal but necessary evil. -
Handles complex home theaters with ease
by flanders223 on December 23, 2008
Pros: Controls a huge number of IR Devices. Flexible configuration. Up-to-date database of devices. Wife-proof once it is setup :-)
Cons: Cant think of many. No RF, but I don't use that. Setup was a little tedious, but I think its about as good as you could get with a complex home theater setup.
Summary: After getting tired of making a paper cheat-sheet for my wife to control our home theater, I got her this remote for the holidays. What took me so long!!!
I ...Summary: After getting tired of making a paper cheat-sheet for my wife to control our home theater, I got her this remote for the holidays. What took me so long!!!
I have a pioneer plasma tv, denon av receiver, directv hd-dvr, xbox 360 (used for dvd's too), Wii, and iTunes running through an Apple Airport express. Any time you want to switch the device you are using, multiple input changes and powering on/off of various equipment is required....an EE degree helps as well.
SETUP
I consider myself a techie, so the initial setup wizards were a little annoying for me, but probably useful for a newbie. Once I got through those, I could customize every aspect of the control, including the activity name displayed on the remote's screen. To play Wii, all my wife has to do is hit the "Play Wii" key. No abstract titles like "Play console" that would just confuse her. The customization ability is very impressive.
USING THE REMOTE
Once you set it up, you just press a single activity button, and all your devices turn on/off and set the inputs. I am extremely impressed with the accuracy the remote does this! Also, if the IR "misfires" and doesn't get a device properly turned on, just press help and it asks you what is wrong (is tv on?, is av receiver on? etc) It then remedies the problem based on this. Very nice!
CONCLUSION
I was not expecting much out of this remote, as most universals have trouble with my complex setup. One or 2 devices are always incompatible. Instead I was pleasantly surprised, and my wife was too when she opened the gift pre-setup...That's a tip, techies: Set this up pre-wrapping for maximum results :-) -
