Its as easy to use as one button
by Burkhardi on May 3, 2005
Pros: Easy to use, great layout. Great support. The "help" button realy helps. AFTER the setup, it's "Senior-Friendly"
Cons: Not rechargable. Not color . Price (~$150 ish) no real cons in my opinion.

Summary: I bought the 680 because the 880 was not out yet. After seeing a Harmony remote in use, I knew I needed one due to the ease of use. The wife, nephews and neighbors love it. If they want to watch tv, they press "Watch TV" button,if they want to see a DVD moive, they press the "Watch a movie" button. Its that easy to use. It even works my Linksys music and picture server (too cool). My neighbors are going to buy it from me when I get the 880 becasue they want a "Senior-Friendly" remote and they LOVED the ease of use. No having to remember what to do (input to select, turn what on, start what..etc). The "Help" button really works well too.I had one minor issue with setup due to my Samsung DLP TV having wierd codes and the Harmony Tech line as fast to answer my quesion and help me. Also I could tell the person on the phone knew the product, not someone reading off a troubleshooting "tree" (Troubleshooting flowchart.
Other then the price, which is not bad once you see what it does, its the cats meow!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Works great with MCE 2005
Pros: If you have MCE 2005 and have it hooked up to your Home Theater system, you are probably juggling a bunch of remotes. This is the one remote to rule them all. It automatically turns everything on and switches to the correct inputs for you once you've se
Cons: Some buttons are kinda flimsy (notably the ones next to the LCD). Web interface could use some improvement

Great Product, lousy programming
by whbrittain on February 7, 2006

Summary: There is an online wizard at the Logitech web site for programming the 680. But it is extremely un-intutitive. If you try the Test Drive on their site, be sure to put in accurate info. Otherwise you will have to create a new login ID. Don't ask me how I know. I have been a network admin since 1985 and the programming interface for this remote is more than just challenging. But, once you get it working (plan on a few hours) it is wonderful.

Unfortunately the best thing going.
by iatesta on December 26, 2005
Pros: Complex and tweakable.
Cons: Poor, poor, poor, poor, horrible interface design.

Summary: This remote has all the potential in the world. It could have a slightly more thought out way of working so the bulk of the setup isn't all online (ie just put the DBs for commands online). But the most glaringly obvious and by the third day MOST painful drawback is the HORRIBLE web interface. I want to change two buttons on the DVD setting to control the volume of another device and it just won't do it. It's the least intuitive interface I've ever seen. And I should be able to figure it out I'm an IT manager. Logitech please keep trying though.

This Remote does everything I need it to do.
by Remoticon on December 23, 2008
Pros: Buttons are well placed, and easy to find. Once you get used to it, you will never go back to OEM remotes. Activity mode is the only way to go. The remote is very intuitive. Everything seems to be exactly where it should be.
Cons: Buttons are a little small. It would be nice if Harmony allowed you to store your set up on your own computer instead of on their website. Why should I have to set how long I want the backlight to stay lit over the Internet?

Summary: I am a big fan of Harmony's activity-based remotes. If you want to watch a DVD, just press the "Watch a Video" button, and your DVD player is turned on, along with your sound system, and your TV. And all of them are set to the proper input and ready to go.
I love my 680, and I plan to get another one for my Dad who has trouble setting up his system to watch a DVD using three different remotes. -
When it's working: It's Great!
by dcatalfamo on December 11, 2008
Pros: Once programmed correctly this is an excellent universal remote.
Cons: To get it reprogrammed can be a hassle.

Summary: I've been trying for TWO days now to figure out how to UPDATE REMOTE. I've loaded the most current software onto my new laptop. I got that done. I've done the usual: virus protection off and so on... I've also gone back to my PC that doesn't have Vista, to no avail. I've tried the troubleshooter and contacted my IT guy. No Clue. So it's back to using 3 remotes until I figure it out. I understand it could be a router issue, that's my next attack.

Summary: Pitiful. The remote is really easy to use and set up. Expected Lifetime = 2-3 months. Honestly just by holding it it just doesn't feel like it could take very much. Infact after about a month, the USB port on the top of the remote feel inside the device and we're unable to change any settings on the remote. Customer support isn't very great either.

Great Product
by bhenson01 on February 23, 2007
Pros: One button to turn all components to right selection; computer interface for programming; learning remote
Cons: Layout could be better but once you get used to it, it's fine

Summary: I received this remote for Christmas. I've been tweaking the programming since I've got it and it's just about perfect. It's had to learn 1 command (the HDMI button on my DVD) and it will operate all of my components. I have a LG Plasma TV, DirecTV HD DVR (HR20-700), RCA Up-Convert DVD, Kenwood receiver, Sylvania VCR. With this set-up, the remote is great. I've changed the response of some of the buttons and once I've gotten that changed, it was great. I haven't used the media center portion of it.
One of the best things is how, for the less technologically knowledgeable, you press one button and everything is changed. It used to be a pain to have to change the input on the TV, and AV receiver. If it wasn't me doing it, I had to walk them through the changes. Now, I tell them to press one button and all is changed.
