Summary: I honestly like this remote alot SRU8112/27. I have been able to set it up to control all of my AV equipment through the IR remote learning function. The setup IS time consuming but worth it for the remote to include all of the functionallity of your existing remotes & for cross functioning between devices on the same remote setting. I have been able to add everything including my ipod dock, & my under cabinet kitchen TV/DVD which I honestly believe would not have been on the Logitec site for Harmony remotes. I like that I could set up the remote exactly as I wanted, on the other hand it took me the better part of three eavenings to get it all setup the way I wanted & tested so I could put away all of my other remotes.
The bad side is the preset programming worked for most of my stuff but not as well as I would have liked. In the end I didn't make use of this it but did work. The Philips site is worthless for providing additional codes and support. I could see people easily getting frustrated with this & writing bad reviews.
I have had the remote for 8mos. & have enjoyed it once it was set up. It provides a low battery warning & provided you change the batteries in a reasonable timeframe the programming remains w/ the remote even when all the batteries have been removed quickly for the swap. It would have been nice for the buttons to be back lit but thats minor in my opinion.
This remote can be found for a low price & if you have the remotes for the equipment you wish to program & are willing to spend the time setting it up it is well worth it. My father has a lower end Harmony & has far more problems with it for more money. The learning function is a huge advantage.
Great concept but bad device

Pros: Beautiful display. Auto programming is great concept
Cons: Not enough codes. No way to enter codes manually

Summary: Bought this product on clearance from a major dept. store today because I was excited to have a great price and the store was trying to clear them out for newer models. I was excited to finally get a universal that might work with my whole entertainment system. No such luck. The preprogrammed codes do not work with Directv HD receivers/DVR's (I have both) and would not work with my Harmon Kardon receiver. Tech support said that it's not compatible with certain pieces. Returning tomorrow.
Didn't work with half of my stuff! Even major brands!

Pros: Learning feature is good for obscure functions and channel favorites might be useful, though not worth the money.
Cons: Not compatible with basic systems from major brands. Process of learning button-by-button will drive you insane if you have to do a whole component from scratch. Learning feature not as capable as advertised. No full manual.

Summary: I just bought this item and had previously been pleased with Philips products. It worked great with my TV and cable box, but apparently my Samsung Blu-Ray and home theater systems were too obscure. It would not detect the codes, leaving me with no choice but to attempt to program every button individually with the "learning" feature. This only worked for programing the multi-function buttons at the top of the remote. This meant I could not power up or change the volume of my surround system. That's not very useful. Sure, I could program those things into the multi-function buttons, but who wants to search through pages of buttons just to raise the volume. Any cheap universal remote will at least run a brand-name Samsung system, but not this thing. At the end of the day, I was still better off using my old cable box remote than this expensive thing. I did try customer support and the best they could do was to tell me to play around with how long I held down each button while learning. Seriously? I intend to give Logitech a try next. They can't be any worse than this thing assuming their remote doesn't catch on fire in my hands.
crap, horrid, bad
by bloodylipp on February 18, 2009
Pros: pretty screen, cool channel icons
Cons: so many, it doesnt even have directv hd dvr codes out of the box??? r u smoking crack people??? learning was horrid. buttons cheap. menu was poor. programming (trying to, never fully successful) was a pain.

Summary: i spent 3 hours of my night programing this thing. i have had many universals and have no problems with instructions or figuring things out my self. i still cant get over that it could not control a directv box stock. it would say it learned a button, i would go back and it didnt. try again, still didnt, try again it works, go change another button, doesnt work again. this is with out a doubt the coolest looking remote i have bought, but also getting returned now.
