  Best thing since sliced bread

  Been going strong for a year now and the only thing my child has managed to do to it is break the battery cover from throwing it around.

  Cons: Not the most ergonomic button placement, but hell, when you only have one remote to learn who cares?

  does the job at the lowest cost

  The ability to learn functions means it works with basically anything
  Fairly stylish
  One remote controlls it all
  No need to buy bluetooth-to-IR converter = SAVE MONEY!

  Cons: A little tough to learn commands from other IR remotes

  Summary: The PS3 does an awful lot, from internet to games, blu-ray to streaming Netflix. One of the coolest features of the PS3 to me is the use of bluetooth to connect wireless peripherals such as the controllers, headsets, keyboards, and mice. Unfortunately it also is one of the biggest bothers. Well, it's not the bluetooth, really, it's the lack of an IR sensor. Without that, finding a universal remote to control a home theather using a PS3 for blu-rays is a little tough. Luckily there is the SMK Blu-Link VP3700. This universal remote works for both bluetooth AND IR devices. It does exactly what its advertised to do, control a home theater with a PS3 in it, and it does it well.
  
  This remote is very easy to connect to the PS3. You enter the accessory menu under the settings in the XMB, hold start and enter on the remote, and it does the rest. It has circle, square, triangle, and x buttons for PS3 functions (but they can work well to do additional functions I'll talk about later). The remote works well to control everything but games (it lacks any buttons that recreate the L2, L3, R2, and R3, and any analog sticks). It's programmed to control all those functions, AND DVD/Blu-ray movies, which it does perfectly.
  
  You can also program up to 5 other devices in a home theater (TV, AV reciever, cable/satellite, etc.). Most devices connect using a four digit code (similar to most universal remotes) and just about any device will auto-set up this way. Most of the controls work well, but some things don't quite translate. Fortunately, the Blu Link has you covered. The remote can learn functions from other remotes that can be mapped onto any button you want. This is perfect if you want a different button to control a different function, or if there are buttons on the device's remote that usually don't carry over well in other universal remotes. You could, theoretically, custom-map every button for a device if you wanted, but that would be VERY time consuming. Teaching/learning takes awhile, so custom mapping every button wouldn't be easy, but possible. Also, my one gripe about the learning function is that it can't learn any multiple button press things like the Harmony remotes do. The Playstation buttons don't do anything else and would be perfect for this, but alas, it's not to be.
  
  My only other real gripe with the remote is that the buttons feel very stiff, and don't always give good feedback. Especially the directional pad or menu buttons around it. Sometimes I can't tell if I've pressed the button, only to find I pressed it twice. Once I got a feel for it, it was better, but it is something to note.
  
  Overall, I would recommend this remote for anyone with a home theater system that has a PS3 as the Blu-ray player. It works well, it learns functions from other remotes, and its cheaper than buying a bluetooth-to-Ir converter AND a universal remote.
