Solved my MacBook Pro connection issues.

Pros: The Hawking HWREN1 Range Extender does exactly what the manufacturer claims and does it with an easy-to-use setup program while also offering a much more extensive web-based configuration interface.
Cons: So far, I see no negatives with this product.

Summary: I was suffering from the same connection issues that have plagued many aluminum MacBook Pro owners. I would see four bars on my wireless signal strength indication but still suffer regular connection drop-outs.
My thoughts were that, although the MacBook was receiving an adequate signal, the path back to the router two floors up was weak (meaning that the transmission capabilities of the MacBook were not as strong as the signal from the router to the laptop).
Placing the HWREN1 midway between my office and the router solved this problem. The range extender creates a new network while mirroring all of your existing security settings. It works with my Cisco (Linksys) wireless router.
The $70 sale price at Micro Center made it a great alternative to trying a new router (e.g., a Wireless-N router) which may or may not have solved my problems.
