Pros: best range & technical support of any unit found.

Model Number: 300 N Range Extender HWREN1
This is the most powerful and easy to install range extender with excellent technical support I have found!
The box contains range extender, 2 antennas, A.C. power adapter, Ethernet cable, setup CD, quick install guide, and mounting screws.
Installation is very easy - plug the A.C. power adapter into the range extender and plug it into an A.C. outlet, plug one end of the supplied Ethernet cable into the range extender and the other end into your router, put the CD in your CD player and run the software. The software will ask you for some basic information but is very straight forward. Unplug the Ethernet cable and move the range extender to its new location.
The only problem I ran into was that my security protocols were not detected properly (unknown reason but very common in the industry) - I called technical support, they answered very quickly, they were very knowledgeable in diagnosing and resolving the problem quickly. The instructions they gave were very easy even for someone who has no computer knowledge.
The range of the extender is excellent it went from 2 bars to 5.
Note 1: Range extender installed using a desktop with XP and a Linksys router. Tested on a desktop with a Dlink USB WI-FI adapter with XP and on a laptop using VISTA.
Note 2: The unit is very light weight I do not consider this a negative as it is the quality not the weight that counts.

Best Purchase I've Made In A Long Time
by sdonnald on July 16, 2011
Pros: Incredibly easy installation and I know nothing about computers. Simply plug in and follow the small guide that comes with it, took me no longer than 2 minutes. The range instantly was extended to several hundred feet exactly in the direction I needed i
Cons: None at all that I know

Summary: I don't know why other reviewers had found this product bad, I think they either have something against the company itself. I looked around and found some great reviews on the product at http://www.wirelessrangeextenderreviews.com which is all up to date not like some of these reviews that are over a year old. The drivers had no issue at all, maybe for that one person because Win7 had a LOT of problems with drivers when it was first sold. Not anymore though!

Best gear I've found for extending wireless networks
by Bob_Meyer on March 3, 2012
Pros: Reasonable price. Easy setup. Pretty much bulletproof: automatically resumes after power outage. Removable antennas so you can replace the stock antennas with aftermarket antennas for stronger signal and Hawking has quite a selection of antennas.
Cons: None that I know of.
Summary: Best gear I've found for extending wireless networks.

So far very unreliable

Pros: When it's working, it works fine.
Cons: In the two weeks I have had this product I have had to call tech support no less than five times to reconfigure and reconnect

It Really Does the Job
by mgf_db5 on February 2, 2011
Pros: Familiarity with WIFI setup helps, but the Quick Installation Guide and the Setup CD-ROM made this pretty easy. I had no problems linking this Range Extender to my router on the first try. It greatly improved my WIFI reception at the periphery.
Cons: I suspected that the product only covered the 2.4 GHz frequency band, but this was only confirmed when I read the labels on the box.
Summary: Even in homes with a relatively open floorplan with a drywall interior, I have found that the effective range of a WIFI router is not much more than 50 feet. ...
Summary: Even in homes with a relatively open floorplan with a drywall interior, I have found that the effective range of a WIFI router is not much more than 50 feet. I needed to improve reception at the periphery - at a distance of some 75 feet from the router. This Hawking HWREN1 (Rev. 1) really does the job. It's linked to a Linksys E4200 Wireless-N Router and relays the signal to an Atheros 11/a/b/g/n Wireless PCI LAN Adapter on a desktop. The setup was done under MS-Windows 7 (Pro). Setup was easy and the Quick Installation Guide and the User Manual were well written. The product is located about 40 feet from the router where the signal reception had been about 30% with my former Linksys WRT150N; the new Linksys E4200 had already doubled signal strength. Now, the signal at the periphery of my network is essentially full strength. I will get an occasional dropped signal, but this could be caused by anything. Re-connecting has involved nothing more than reminding the computer of what it is supposed to be doing. It solved my probelm and I think the product is a good value.

Couldn't resolve incompatibility with Windows Vista/7
by stanpaule on June 28, 2010
Pros: Appearance, easy install
Cons: After more than 5 attempts, one replacement, tech support, elevated to level 2, could not resolve the non-connectivity. Though icon in tray indicated strong signal, new windows versions could not connect to internet. Very dissapointed.

Impressive.
by andybcrazy on December 31, 2009
Pros: My laptop never had it so good with wireless. This thing works.
Cons: Doesn't support mac filtering for Linksys and DLink. Even though I had added it to my Linksys WRT150N it wouldn't connect. Had to call support and they're the ones that told me mac filtering has to be turned off because they're not supported.
Summary: Being paranoid about my network I don't like turning off mac filtering but the signal strength is worth the trade off. Hopefully a fix is coming down the road.
