  The best router I have ever had

  Pros: -supports HTTP, FTP, Magnet, ed2k, Torrent and NZB downloads
  -new firmware adds much more functionality, removes freezing, crashing
  -supports downloading directly through the user interface
  -very powerful
  -does not overheat

  Cons: There are none.

  Basically, after the update the router works like a charm.
  I believe this is the best router currently available for purchase.

  The 3.0.0.3.78 firmware update also added support for IPv6 (with tunneling or native), a 3G/WiMax modem (with a special "use 3G modem only when WAN is down" feature).
  The firewall component has got a DoS (denial-of-service) protection function.
  There is also a VPS server integrated; you can get a free DDNS name for life.
  
  I should also mention this:
  I quote Dong Ngo (the CNET employee who reviewed this router): "The bad: /.../ Its USB ports don't provide enough power for bus-powered portable hard drives."
  They do provide enough power. I have two Verbatim Store 'n' Go bus-powered portable hard drives connected to the router and everything works flawlessly.

  Great possibilities, poor real life results

  Summary: I really wanted to like this router! Based on the hardware alone it had excellent potential. I'd read the reviews of the stock firmware, but being a dd-wrt firmware user I thought I had a good chance of overcoming the problems people were having with the great past results I've had by loading the open source dd-wrt firmware.
  For the first few months I ran the stock ASUS firmware experiencing sporadic issues. Then I upgraded to dd-wrt and the issues remained which leads me to believe the lockups and dropouts are caused by over-heating or poor quality components. If anyone had solved these issues with this model please let me know. Until then this unit is getting shelved.

  A really poorly executed product

  Pros: Relatively inexpensive, but you get what you pay for.

  Cons: Unreliable and prone to failure. ASUS was slow to ship replacement unit. Replacement unit was defective. Documentation is absolutely terrible!

I could not address the replacement unit to configure it. The documentation is horrible. It's even wrong in places! I don't have time to waste on such garbage. I bought another brand.

  Since my earlier review, the replacement unit suddenly began working, and I was able to configure it. However, the WiFi signal is either weak or unstable. I would change my rating from 1 star to 2 stars.

  great router hardware for the value

  Pros: - ridiculously high hardware specification (for a router).
  - can be used for non stop download server, support USB devices (except hard drives).
  - Great router for use with third party firmware

  Summary: first thing i learn about selecting router other than linksys is by observing it internal hardware specification, cause in my opinion, other than linksys, home router firmware is bad enough it's so humiliating. rt-n16 have 32 ROM with 128 MB RAM, to support it core prosesor (Broadcom4718A) which running at 480 MHz, even though it can run at 533 MHZ, but asus decide to run it at 480 MHz, may be to increase router life expectancy, but i doubt even with lowered clock, you can load it prosesor way up to 100%, that is unless you manage to create 300 thousand network session.
  at first i found that asus firmware is really bad, router GUI is slow and network session drop constantly, after searching at the net, i finally using tomato USB, since then it works effortlessly, with extra feature that you can't find in asus firmware (bandwidth limitter, wirelss survey, VPN, FTP server, etc). with so much feature, it only fill ROm up to 8 MB, it's hard to fill this 32 MB ROM fully. May be 32 MB ROM can be fully loaded if you fill it with lot of unnecessary graphical user interface, it surely making your gui much beautiful, but no functionality
  in case you're not satisfide with it current performance, this router can be overclocked to 533 MHz or higher (using third part firmware), for precaution add additional fan and change adapter to 2A
  in my opinion, this router is more suitable for corporate user with heavy traffic, only then this router can tested to it's peak performance, using it at low load like at home give you advantage like make the router last longer.

  Utterly unstable.

  Pros: Usb file system able to mount ext3 and ntfs drives. Natively runs a linux kernel with telnet shell access when enabled from web control page.

  Cons: Unstable. Freezes completely all the time and requires rebooting all the time. A single g wireless client transferring 35 gigs of files to a local 100mbit wired desktop will dos any other desktop wired connections out to the internet. Hot=need fans

I'm very tempted to try ddwrt or tomato as some forums state this router has never ran well with it's stock firmwares.

  Good Router

  Pros: Fast, has positionable antennas. Mounts on wall.

  Worst Router ever

  Pros: It worked great for a week! It was the greatest with speed and coverage! Then it crapped out

  Cons: Wireless signal drops all the time. Not Mac friendly at all. Asus technical support was horrible it took them over a week just to return my email. Not really PC friendly either. I set up the wireless printer settings and after a week it did not work.
