DO NOT BUY

Pros: Good price point
Cons: DHCP server does not allow you to change subnet from default (192.168.2.0/24).

Summary: I am a telecommuter. Previously, I'd been using the excellent Linksys WRT-54G. Unfortunately, it died. I picked this up as a higher-speed replacement. Since putting it on my network, I have been unable to telecommute. First, it was a conflict between the default DHCP range (192.168.2.0/24) and the inability to change the subnet it allocates from. Once I disabled this and changed to a different network device (my NAS) for DHCP service, I still found myself unable to connect to my corporate VPN. Googling around, I discovered this was a common/known problem with this and many other Belkin devices.
Support has been utterly useless on either the DHCP server configuration issue or the VPN issue.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Would not work

Summary: I purchased this to replace a D-Link that is a little unreliable. Attempted to put in the same settings as with the D-Link and it would not connect to the internet. I called the overseas tech support and after more than an hour they figure out that the Belkin had problems with the DNS servers from the ISP. They suggested that I manually configure the DNS on all of my computers even though the exact same servers work fine with the D-Link or I could just configure it as an access point. They said the yellow blinking light on the front indicated it was working correctly even though the manual said all lights on the front should be blue. Typical poor outsourced tech support. I returned to store for refund.

Unreliable wireless connection, frequently drops
by jyackzan on December 30, 2008
Pros: Nice user interface with lots of "advanced" options
Cons: Drops wireless connections frequently, even with an "excellent" connection.

Summary: This router was dropping my wireless connection with such frequency that I've gone back to my Linksys G model for now. It seems to recover the connection in a few seconds and carry on okay, but when I was connected via a VPN, it kept making me restart the whole connection... not okay.
It also looks to me like you can't see the PCs that are wired to it from laptops that are wireless... that may just be a setting, but I couldn't find it... I turned off it's firewall, but to no avail.
Also, could not use as a remote AP to the Linksys router.... only a wired AP to a non-Belkin router, which is kind of pointless.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Easy set-up and install. Good value.
by metro636 on December 20, 2008
Pros: Very easy to set-up and install. Replaced an old, tempermental Netgear router and am veryy satisfied. Within 10 minutes my new network was set-up and I had the desktop and two laptops connected.
Cons: None to mention.
Summary: Good price for those on a budget and no need to be a big techie here. The included software does all the heavy lifting.

Only good for a year. Stops downloading for no reason.
by mjbarans on October 3, 2010
Pros: PRO: The price was right. PRO: It was easy and quick to set up. PRO: Now that it died, I can buy a new one that allows USB network storage for my pictures and music.
Cons: CON: I've got to go spend more money now on another brand. Done with D-Link, done with Belkin. Gonna try Netgear. Is this what these manufacturers really want? No brand loyalty? Just a rotating pool of techies that eventually come back around?
Summary: This thing worked great for about a year. Now it dies in the middle of downloads. Everything looks fine on the router, but it just stops downloading. I tried the ...
Summary: This thing worked great for about a year. Now it dies in the middle of downloads. Everything looks fine on the router, but it just stops downloading. I tried the wired port, same thing. I reloaded the firmware, same thing. It loses my password and locks me out whenever it feels like it. Nothing on the FAQ, or forums. Tech support says turn off the firewall. Thanks, but no thanks. Changing brands, and recycling this thing.

PAIN TO SET UP
by etoh151 on March 16, 2010
Pros: Once, you set it up it works like a charm. There have been no problems, no disconnects.
Cons: There was some trouble getting all the laptops in the apartment to connect to the internet. Having little experience with setting up routers, I had to make multiple calls to customer service. After an hour on the phone, we got it.
Summary: When I first installed the router, only the laptop that installed the router could acess the internet. All laptops in the apartment could log onto the router, but no internet. ...
Summary: When I first installed the router, only the laptop that installed the router could acess the internet. All laptops in the apartment could log onto the router, but no internet. Tried power-cycling..etc. Eventually called customer service, then changed some stuff on the router to get another computer online, but then the 1st computer couldn't get online. Then had to change passwords/name again so that the password was in numbers. After that all four laptops, and netbook could get online.
I'm sure if I had more experience in routers, installation wouldn't have been much of a problem, but seriously why can't there be an easy plugin/setup router? -
Works great after you get the bugs out !

Pros: I live in a small 1-bedroom apt. I get great reception throughout my apt.

Worst Router Of The Decade
by jakemcgee on February 2, 2010
Pros: absolutely nothing
Cons: Constantly drops connection; wretched customer service

I followed the steps in the set-up wizard, and on the surface, it appeared my system would work good, showing ?excellent? connection everywhere. However, I can only connect through this router maybe 1/3 of the time. The router CONSTANTLY loses its connection to the cable modem, and when it is connected, it provides spotty coverage.
Point blank: I get a better connection stealing my neighbor?s wifi than I do sitting literally in front of this Belkin router.
I looked at all the reviews, and saw several mentions about it needing a firmware update. Unfortunately, when you go to the Belkin site through the router, the firmware update is ?unavailable.?
After resetting everything and re-installing the router 3 times, I called Belkin support, and the first person- who spoke poor English- had me adjust some settings to the channels and other adjustments in the configuration. This fixed the problem?for 30 minutes. I called back, and the 2nd person- who spoke terrible English, and constantly thanked me for the problem- had me do the exact same thing as the first person said. When I told her that didn?t work, she thanked me, and told me to call back if I had any more problems. I said, ?I?m having a problem right now, can we please move on to the next step?? She said, ?and?uh?I thank you very much for this problem.?
At this point, I hung up, realizing that no router should come with this much trouble in set-up. I?ll be taking this router back tonight, and getting the NetGear or Linksys. I?d rather connect to the Internet through a box of sand than use another Belkin router. -
Easy install, easy to set up laptops, works well so far
by digger662 on February 2, 2010
Pros: Amazingly easy to set up and install. For the price and features this is a good value. Used USB drive to configure all the laptops in the house! Lights on front tell you were to look if you have a connectivity problem. Good wireless signal and speed.
Cons: One possible problem may be wireless connectivity, my daughter complained about connectivity, but turns out the Comcast router was bad. So far wireless seems to be ok. No drops.

Summary: We just switched from Verizon DSL to Comcast, so I had to get a new router. I looked a lot of them prices were all over the place. I bought this one for about $59 at O max. It doesnt have the ability to connect a hard drive to it, but I did not see the need for it for me. Connected all the wires turned everything on and we were working. I previously tried to set up a older linksys and had nothing but problems. So I was nervous about this install, but no problem. Network seems fine, love the wireless configuration tool via usb flash drive. Follow the instruction on the install CD and it is a breeze. Apparently you can also use a Flash button on the top which allows (for 2 minutes) a wireless network discovery mode so you can connect other wireless devices (like x-box or another laptop) I haven't use that feature yet. Lastly I remote connect to my network at work with a VPN and I had absolutely no issues....connected first try with no problems.

Good value once the kinks were worked out
by kaevanoff on December 28, 2009
Pros: Better raange and connection stability than my old Linksys WRT54GX2 - SEE SUMMARY for Caveat
Cons: When I call support, I want something more than foreign accent that's difficult to understand, reading from a worksheet. I want them to listen to what my problem is, then help me fix it.

Summary: If the communication between modem and router hold up as expected, this ws a steal of a purchase. The wireless connection seems far more stable than I had with the Linksys WRT54GX2 (which was replaced, by the way, because it started powering off randomly), and at better distances. After seeing some of the negative experiences, I can say I was on my way down that road until I updated the firmware.
I replaced a Linksys WRT54GX2 that was satisfactory, but not much beyond that. I have a 1/2 acre property & sitting in my den toward the back of the house always gave me a temperamental wireless connection. Also, sitting out by the pool, my connection would occasionally disappear. The Linksys unit would also bog down, particularly with XBox and my boys' Nintendo DS's would sometimes not hookup. With this Belkin unit the signal is stronger & faster in all areas where I had problems before. And the transfer speed is much better. This is all AFTER I seem to have worked out some technical bugs.
When 1st hooked up, everything was fine, but I soon started losing communication between the Belkin router and my Netopia modem. At 1st the connection would drop to the internet, then communication to the modem started dropping out & eventually could not be restored at all, even with a total rest. I called support, they had me download the latest firmware update, & everything now seems rock solid. XBox, 2 laptops, 1 desktop & various IPod Touches & Nintendo DS's all connect very well & are now fast. Granted it only been 2 - 3 days, but once the update made the connection stop droppig out, we seem to be fine. if that changes, you can be sure I'll dump it on this forum.
