worked less than 1 month, service is dreadful

Summary: within one month of buying a new belkin wireless router I had problems with my wireless connection. Called twice with problems (always have to wait about 15-20 minutes on hold before talking with service rep), and both times I called we reset the router through the belkin gateway. Third time I called, this still didnt seem to be a problem to them. Rather than replacing the router, we reset it through the gateway and went through a process of unplugging modem, resetting router through reset button, unplugging router, re-plugging in modem, replugging in router, and also resetting router on gateway interface. I was eventually going through this process every time I used the internet (almost every day) since my wireless connection was almost always down. Reset button broke after about 2 weeks of this.
Spent another 20 minutes or so on hold making service calls where they just wanted to reset my connection again and instead I demanded a replacement. Had to spend another 20 minutes on hold to be transferred to a level 2 tech to explain all over again. Level 2 tech tells me they will replace it, but they need to have a level 3 tech call me back within 48 hours. No call.
Right now I've been on the line for 28 minutes, almost entirely on hold, the few minutes I did talk to a tech I told him I needed to make this my last phone call and I need to get a replacement now. I'm now on hold to talk to someone on the escalation team. This is absolutely ridiculous.
I would rather have spent an extra $100 on a router than waste hours and hours of my time over the last 3 months on trying to get a wireless connec -
UPDATE: I just got an answering service saying the escalation team is not available and to call back at another time and it hung up on me.
Consider this when going with Belkin.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Belkin's Run of EZ-2-Use wi-fi products continues
by marvelgoose on April 11, 2006
Pros: works out of the box, easy to log into web-based interface, full security suite
Cons: I'm scared of that little antenna breaking but the protective case is good.

Summary: I pulled it out of the box, clicked the three position switch to the middle position, plugged it into the office lan, powered it up, and my laptop grabbed right on. Nothing to it. You don't even need the installation CD other than for the PDF of the manual.
It comes with a crush resistant case, power cord, cat5 wire, and a wire for drawing power from a USB port. The case has webbing on both sides of the interior for the wires and a wide piece of elasticized cloth that holds the router firmly in place. The power brick is one of those side connects that does not hog extra power plugs on a power strip.
The router itself is a cute little thing. I worry about the antenna, but the case and the way it holds the router made me feel better. The lights work and the one switch is easy to use.
I logged into the web based advance features using the laptop and changed the SSID and added 128 WAP. The router rebooted and when I reaquired the net work, I put in the 40 character automatically generated password and I was back in.
I then pressed the reset button on the bottom and the entire thing refreshed to factory defaults -- nice if you lose your password!
Next I tried WEP and ran into issues. Turns out my brand-new corporate laptop is XP Professional Service Pak 1,not 2, and you need 2 to run WEP.
I'm now weighing the time hit to beg IT to upgrade XP against the chances that someone is going to hack a setup using 128WAP along with a VPN that's set up with a RSA Token key.
I walked down the hall to the conference room and I still had a good, usable signal.
Tonight I'm in the hotel and I'm in another room from the router with no issues. Its much more comfortable in this easy chair as opposed to the too tall desk and chair.
Another nice thing will be that I can also share the one hotel LAN port with the kids when they come along with dad on a trip this summer.
This is not my first Belkin Wi-FI product. They all work this easy and you can tell they have worked on the complete customer experience.Updated
Accidently moved the switch on the back in unpacking and when I powered up with a lan hookup it acted just like a reset and wiped all my settings. Make sure the switch is where you want it before you put power to it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: My landlord got one of these with her new Sony laptop and has had nothing but trouble with it. A mutual friend set it up for her first and had it working but it only worked for a little while. I went over today to set it up and was able to get it working after a bit of trouble but it quite again after just a few minutes. My suggestion to my landlord was "go buy a Linksys".

Very Poor Product

Summary: It is hard to figure out how Belkin can offer a lifetime warranty on their products when they can't be relied on to work for even a couple months. I bought one at Best Buy who by the way only have a 30 day return policy (so I do not recommend Best Buy as a source for your tech needs). After 90 days my router just mysteriously died. Belkin will replace it, but I'm without a router for 3 to 7 business days while waiting for the replacement. DON'T buy Belkin for any situation that is mission critical.
If I had had this router for a few years and Belkin was willing to replace it, I would be impressed with a 3 to 7 day turn-around, but somehow they need a process to handle earlier failures that is better. -

Summary: Just picked one up at Frys this week, it's really small. I really needed one for business trips. My co worker has the Netgear one which I borrowed once for a trip but I couldn't get it to share a hotel connection with my buddies. This one does the trick, my buddy and I are sharing one connection now without having to signup twice! Got my money back already!

Pros: I love the size
Cons: Functionability
Summary: I love the idea. The only problem is that it could have some more features in my opinion. They should have thought it through.
