Touchdown!

Pros: Excellent signal strength - nice design.
Cons: Requires config program to turn off radio but still use desktop PC.

Summary: I spent two weeks on the internet researching routers and decided on Buffalo. This is a great product! I set it up manually for use with non-Buffalo adapters without incident. The web-based config program is well designed with plenty of help buttons to answer questions. Signal strength from one end of the house to the other is excellent. If I didn?t have the urge to fiddle with things I would have bought a Buffalo adapter and used the One-Touch (AOSS) feature. Security was a big consideration and the ?Buff? allowed me to use WPA-PSK with AES encryption and MAC filtering. The stand with rubber feet keeps it from sliding. Tech support is in Texas where they speak English and not in India. I called with some questions prior to receiving the unit and the guy was cordial and knowledgeable. The ?Buff? is not just another pretty face.

Need more range...this is your next router!

Summary: I have used an older version of this router. Normal output is 40-50 mw. This baby cranks out 80. I used it first with my older WLI-CB-G54S card that did not have HP built into it. Still got about a 40% increase in signal. Not good enough considering that I like to work on the back deck and to get a signal out there, I have to send a signal through two walls...a bathroom with metal all over it...another wall and a brick wall. As you can see...getting a signal out there was going to be a chore. Could not connect with Linksys MIMO or Netgear. Then I decided to get the WLI-CB-G54HP card for my laptop. Installed the drivers...and lo and behold..I am typing this from my back deck and the signal strength is 4/5. I have been a Buffalo customer for a couple of years and they have INCREDIBLE tech support. Personable, local and ready to help.
Buffalo Technologies is a company that everyone else should learn from. They release good products that do as touted. I am not a computer professional...but have a decent working knowledge of computers...and this router, alone, rocks! Add the PC card to it and you can't lose!4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is an excellent router with super high performance at extended range. I have a Netgear MR812v2 like the other reviewer but it would not reach my back yard and had dead spots in my house. I tried the a linksys without much improvement.
It does have an annoying re-initializing after changing any paramater that adds a few minutes to set up but once done everything works great.
I use vpn without a problem and even installed the client software on some nonBuffalo systems and the AOSS seems to work great. I have had it about a week without any problem.
I would recommend this router but encourage the makers to improve the documentation and the set up screens.

Finally... easy, fast, and wide range!
by fatbiker on November 27, 2007
Pros: So easy to install and incredible performance.
Cons: ummm... hard to find. Nobody stocks much of this thing -- sold out everywhere.

It is incredibly fast for a G-router, and the range... I walked down the street a few buildings and still had a strong signal from my router. So good.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I bought this router after my NetGear router started giving me issues with numerous power cycles per day. I read many articles about routers and I decided on this because of price and reviews. So far I am delighted, it was a snap to setup, very easy for beginners and novices alike. Hope this helps, can't go wrong for 69 dollars at Best Buy!!

Great Value and Range

Summary: Great router. This router's factory firmware is a bit quirky because it restarts after every setting change. It's slow going for initial setup. I highly recommend either using the Open-WRT or DD-WRT firmware with this router as you get a ton more features and it is faster for setup. (For advanced users) After installing the new firmware, I'll never use anything else - the range on this is amazing.

This Router ROCKS!

Summary: The only reason why I did not give this a 10 is that the set up took longer than expected compared to a Netgear I returned. However, the range on this router is awesome. There are many features you can use as well. The preformance and range are what I need and this delivers.
There tech support speaks English, unlike talking with somneone at Netgear. All Netgear ever wanted was a serial # and credit card.....and to boot, they would want to ask you a survey at the end of the call. Buffalo stayed on the phoine with me to make sure the settings I had were correct. They are awesome!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I've been using this router now for my home office wireless network for three months now. Bought this as a reseller, tried it myself and it has really great range and easy to use/setup. Lots of nice features most epsecially "AOSS" security. Although it works best when used with other Buffalo devices. It still provides better range than other that I've used.

Fit and finish excellent - operation terrible!
by VOR01 on October 28, 2005

Summary: I purchased this unit based on the review of another Buffalo product but now I see that was a mistake. Although the unit chassis and packaging are very nice, the workings of the unit made me less than overwhelmed!
Where do I begin? Aside from stating this is the worst wireless device I have ever worked with (out of about 40 or so).
To begin with, the user setup is arduous because just about any setting change automatically causes the unit to reinitialize (anywhere for 15 seconds but often around 30-40 seconds). Because of this it will take you five times longer to set this unit up. It would seem more logical to configure this unit FIRST and then reset it.
The port forwarding interface is primitive and non-intuitive. But as long as you can assume correctly it is usable (hint: for a consecutive series of open IP ports you may use a dash (e.g. 4409-4420).
User interface and help is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. This unit was obviously poorly translated.
For some reason I could not enter an admin password with a letter combined with 6 numbers. But I could use all lettered or all numbered passwords.
Finally and the "final straw" I discovered the unit had locked up and required a power recycle after 4 days.
If you are a shallow person and you go for looks more than substance, this is the unit for you.
For now, I will stick with my trusted 2 year old Netgear MR814v2 until I find a better 802.11g replacement.
Perhaps I should stick with Netgear?3 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I'm IT Specialist, and have set up hundreds of wireless routers over the years. I knew the company as Techworks in the past, but not as Buffalo Tech. In any event, I gave this little device a try from all of these stellar reviews, and so far it has been fast, easy to set-up, and most of all, reliable. In the wireless world, reliability and security far exceed anything else in my book, and the Buffalo Router/Access Point does a great job on both fronts. The Admin interface is easy to navigate, and the security filters are convenient to set-up. Hands down, it's much better than Linksys, NetGear, and Belkin. I'm an Apple guy, so I feel the Airport BaseStation has the nicest user interface, but who cares after it's set up.
btw- I heard that the 802.11n routers by Buffalo Tech are not so good.
