Works really well with dd-wrt
by TheSaw_alter on May 2, 2011
Pros: - affordable
- supported by dd-wrt
- working :)Cons: It has cons, but not worth mentioning, because it's a budget router. If you want more, spend more.

Summary: I've read all the bad reviews on this router, but decided to buy it anyways. I switched its firmware right after plugging it in, and set up some basic settings. Can't say my opinion on the default firmware because I haven't used it. However dd-wrt installation was really easy, no hassle at all. Since then (almost 2 weeks), it ran continuously without any problems at all, nor dropping the connection even once.
Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (11/21/10) std
Time: 11:27:18 up 12 days
Connection Type: PPPoE
Login Status: Connected
Connection Uptime: 12 days, 1:00:27
We have 3 wired and 2 wireless users in our house, and they all experienced no problems. Signal strength is not that good, about 60% two rooms away, with 2 doors closed, but the antenna power is on 40%. Ping is pretty okay, and constant. Download from torrent is also good, 5 MB/s constant on most seeded torrents. The thing that surprised me is that p2p down/uploading doesn't affect the bandwidth at all. With my old router we always had these kind of problems; when someone was p2p-ing, the others had a hard time, but not with this one, it's not even noticeable.
All in all it's a good router for its price. I know I've been using it only for 2 weeks, but so far I'm satisfied with it.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: It never worked from the start! I spent several hours with Tech Support and could not solve the issue. I could not keep my laptop to stay on connected. We tried from changing channels, new SSID, new passwords and updating the firmware. Nothing Worked!
To top it off, I was given a senior Tech Support that had a condescending tone when assissting me! Horrible experience! Never again! Beware if you decide to buy this product.
I went back to Linksys and had no issues!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Decent router for this price tag
by aj_killer on April 12, 2012
Pros: Cheap, good for apartments and small houses, Easy to set up and of course, its 802.11n
Cons: Not a promising range for a N300 router, I can't get full signal with doors closed
Summary: It works well with my DSL-502T router. Configured itself with no hassles. Range is OK, but not up to the mark when it comes to 802.1n.

Its not at all a good upgrade for users already using 802.11g interface. Although it can be good for buyers newly setting up a wireless connection in their homes. I've noticed people complaining about disconnections I have a solution for you.
To everyone losing internet access, have you tried-
192.168.0.1-->Setup--> INTERNET-->Manual Internet connection setup, and here, In the PPPOE Connection Type change the Reconnect mode from "On Demand" to "always on".
The router is set by default to the "on demand" mode, ie. it will disconnect from the internet if left idle, and will take 5 secs(by default) to reconnect.
By checking "Always ON" this never Disconnect from the Internet.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Perfect for a simple cheap N class router.
by Chyrio on March 24, 2012
Pros: Great performance, price, range, power consumption, you name it.
Cons: Just wish it had Usb connectivity and gigabit but for the price you pay for this thing you can look past that.

Summary: Works Perfect. Completely compatible with dd-wrt as well which is a huge deal for me (i needed a wireless repeater) I have had this thing set up ever since i bought it refurbished from micro center. Have had it mounted on the side of my desk hardwired into my desktop. The only thing i long for is gigabit Ethernet and a usb port for my external but hey for 20 bucks refurb out the door full wireless 300n i can look past those minor setbacks. I loved it so much i bought two more for my dad and my girlfriend and they haven't had any trouble either. Please note though read the hardware version like i have E3's all of them but i have heard horror stories about previous generations of this router!!!

by hierarchy on September 25, 2011
Pros: Has policies, unlike my old router Asus N10 but still stable.
Cons: Always disconnecting, need the pc to be reboot. Sometime wireless devices cannot connect you have to reset the wireless settings.
Summary: Don't buy this, I just registered to warn you guys about this crap.

Drek-link DIR-615

Summary: I have 20 years experience in data communication media and protocols. I've set up not a few WIFI network in my time, both professionally and for personal use. I've used D-Link products before with good results, so I had no serious reservations buying the DIR-615 when my old unit gave up the ghost after many years of faithful service.
The first time the unit hung, I assumed I may have made a mistake in the configuration, but a careful check of the parameters revealed nothing out of order. Then it hung the next day, and the day after that, and the day after that, every 12-24 hours without fail. I don't have the time to mess around with a 40 dollar piece of equipment--I just went out and bought something better.
This is really bad business for D-Link. I have probably purchased a dozen networking products for personal use over the past 10 years--never mind what I buy for my business. The sale of the DIR-615 will go on their books this year, and they'll be pleased with themselves, but in future years, sales will decline, and they'll wonder why. Dude! It's because you destroyed your brand by foisting inferior product on loyal customers. The dozen units I might have bought from D-Link, I'll be buying from someone else.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I purchased this router in Feb 2011 and it never worked correctly. I got intermittant connections, having to unplug 3-4-5 times a day the power cord. D-Link's tech support spent above 4 hours on the phone with me to finally give me an RMA# (8 months later). Regardless of the RMA, I won't buy another D-Link.

Terrible!!
by majsignups on July 22, 2011
Pros: Not one pro
Cons: Everything! This was the worst purchase I've made in years. I've worked in the IT dept for a major university and I still can't make this router work. It has great strength but always says "limited or no connectability". Just Google that phrase and this
Summary: Waste of space and money!

I had too many issues to keep it.
by kfelkins on July 5, 2011
Pros: customer service and ease of setup
Cons: seems to be an issue using an ITouch with it and it cut my 'wired' internet speed in 1/2
articles on the internet suggested removing firewalls and setting the unit on the 'no security level'.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
Specifications
- Manufacturer: D-Link
- Part number: DIR-615
- Description: With the latest firmware installed, you will be able to turn off the router's wireless signal altogether at certain times of the day, to save energy. The DIR-615 Wireless N Home Router connects to any modem or ISP box to provide Internet access for computers and other network equipment. Wireless N technology offers more speed, extended coverage and virtually no dead spots while still compatible with previous network standards. This router transfers data at speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Setting the router up is easy even for non-technically minded people, with D-Link Click'n Connect: run directly from the product CD-ROM, this wizard takes you through an interactive step-by-step guide that will get you on-line in a matter of minutes. It also includes a simplified method of setting up wireless encryption, the Wi-Fi Wireless Protect Setup (WPS), which works at the touch of a button. A powerful dual firewall (SPI and NAT) prevents Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and attempts to breach your network from the Internet. You can also define a list of allowed sites to restrict web access during certain periods.
