Excellent experience!

Pros: Easy setup, choices; improved performance

Summary: Since my son started playing Xbox live I needed to upgrade my original 2-3 year old D-link (DI-524; basic g) router. After research, and reading all the horror stories/reviews about each manufacturer's offering of routers, I decided I might as well stay with what has worked for me: D-link (also, I use D-link's "SecureSpot" hardware security and I figured compatibility might be improved if I stayed with a D-link router.)
I chose D-link's DIR-625 Platinum series (Rangebooster N) router. Carefully, I followed the instructions to a "t" -- disconnecting my old router first, running the cable modem's ethernet cable directly to a single PC, and installing the new D-link software -- I was relieved (and pleasantly surprised) that it could not have been easier. Along the way, and as prompted, I downloaded the latest firmware. After successfully getting the "main" pc surfing the Internet, I added others just as easily and without installing the CD software on each pc (I either plugged in the ethernet cable to an open port on the router, or I entered my security key on the wireless laptops.)
The range is MUCH improved; I'm not sure about the speed (but I wasn't having a problem before.) I think most others who are careful to follow clear, simple instructions they shouldn't have a problem.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Much improved over its rivals.
by m.marinaro on July 22, 2006
Pros: Easy Interface, all G devices worked well N devices are even better. No dropping signals. Workes way better than the wrt54 G. Also antennas can be unscrewed. QOS Works like a champ.
Cons: None so far.

Summary: A real Wireless Router. I have tried almost every router out there and this one seems to be the best so far. Store bought that is. Now to be hohnest the only one I have not tried was the next step up witht he three antennas. THis router is much more versitile than its rival the Linksys Pre N does not even come close. Has built in Email features and web site filtering awsome firmware. Seems to have more wieght. Not that has anything to do with it.

Summary: Easy setup when I had my laptop connected directly to the router. When I then tried to get online with my desktop after setup couldnt get online. I called d-link and they suggested unistalling and reinstalling my usb wireless adaptor drivers and that did the trick no problems after that. works great. Amazing range. I have the Belkin N wireless usb adaptor and about 50 feet away and 3 walls i get 80-90% connectivity, or excellent for you XP users. Only bummer was it is not much faster then the 54mps netgear I had which is why I really upgraded.
Updated
The range and speed are very good using the N band. The theoretical for the router is 300mbs download speed, but the actual is 150 mbs. Then of course your limited a second time by the ISP. I have comcast, so the actual actual speed has averaged 16 mbs. This is a decent increase over what I had before with my 54 mbs Netgear which averaged about 8-10 mbs download speed.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Troubles Resetting & with Vista

Summary: We bought this router yesterday and was able to set up 4 out of 5 computers, all running on XP. My computer running on Vista wouldn't work. Repair connection in the Network Magic didn't work so I called tech support which they were helpful and finally got it to work I was quite disappointed since I specifically choose it based on the "windows vista certified" on the box knowing the issues with Vista and other peripherals.
Today I keep getting disconnected and reconnected through out the day. I've read several other reviews on D-Link with people on Vista or Windows Media Centre having the same issues so I'm packing it up and going back to Linksys...1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is the best router I have ever owned. It has great speed and range. I have been using the router for about a 2 weeks and it has not dropped connection. The firmware offers plenty options and customization. I have 4 bars everywhere in my home now. No dead spots. The was easy but I have a cable modem so the only thing I had to do was change the mac address and turn on the wireless security.

good router for price

Summary: Got it at business Costco for pretty cheap. Replaced by Netgear wgr614 v1 that lasted me 4 years. I use this with my VOIP (Packet8). So my configuration is VOIP -> DIR-625 to VOIP Fax. For whatever reason I could not get my voip to work behind my router. I will have to limit my configuration with the voip fax. So I don't think I get the benefit of all the features of the router. It was an easy install and maybe another day (or year) I will reconfigure to get everything behind the router. I have 2 computers, the fax machine and color printer tying up the ports, so anything new and I will need a hub/switch.
Updated
I do use the wireless and it works better than my old netgear wgr-614. I like the configuration options on the 625, especially since I get the latest security. Range is really good too. I get about 50' through about 5 walls in my rambler.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

So-So Router
by mk2supra84 on October 25, 2007
Pros: Excellent Wireless Transfer Speeds on Draft-N configuration.
Cons: Router stalls every week or so requiring a reset to resume network traffic.

Summary: Router works pretty well. Been able to hit almost 700kb/s with a standard DSL connection over the wireless draft-N connection. Range is not what I expected but it will work in an older, narrow two level home.
Firmware functions fine with the wireless computers but cannot access it with the single wired computer on the network (action times out).
From the time to time the router will also stop relaying information causing my network printer (HP Deskjet 6980)to stop working as well as my internet connection.
Router is much better than my previous D-Link router (DI-524).1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: It is not compatible with other networking devices. It does not work with my PAP2-voip gateway, causing constant reboot while attempting to make a Voip call. I was thinking to upgrade from my old linksys which still works great. I had to disable wireless broadcast in order to work just ok. But what is the reason using it without wireless broadcast???
Very often it looses connection or freezes my browser. Don’t buy it.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Has been quite reliable for over four years now.
by joel arico on March 11, 2012
Pros: Was easy to set up and begin using. Has worked reliably with XP, Vista and 7.

Summary: I was using XP and my son was using Vista when we purchased this router nearly four years ago. It was my first venture into networking. It has always been reliable and has never crashed. Our power used to go off fairly often (too often) and the router always rebooted quickly and without difficulty. When I upgraded to 7 last year, Windows recognized it immediately. We now have 10 devices on the network sometimes 4 or 5 going at the same time. We don't have any problems. Because this is my only experience I can't comment on the speed as compared to other routers. But I can say that internet speed is usually close to or at what my provider promises. My son has printed documents up to 500 pages wirelessly through this router with no problem. Our new TV (a year ago) is the farthest device away from the router. It works well though a little slower that everything else. So distance may be the only weakness.

A great mid-level router.
by Mr_Peabody on June 24, 2009
Pros: Easy to set up, so far no problems, use on computers running Vista & XP, usually has speed of 54 Mbps.
Cons: none, if you want a quicker router, spend more $
Summary: I would recommend this router. Check out all of the funky software running on your computer before you diss this router.
