This D-Link router is all a facade.
by lockemshoto on July 1, 2012
Pros: The router has two separate networks that you can use for different speeds. One is on a 5.0 GHz network for gaming, and the other is a 2.4 GHz network that you can use for ordinary browsing things. It also has features that can make 'you' the owner.
Cons: The QoS function isn't even QoS; in fact, they lie about QoS. No matter what you do, one network will sap from the other, and vise versa. There is no bandwidth capping, so this isn't a router to share with others.
Summary: The box is a complete lie. Although this router gives you the two connections that most aim for, a lot of people will be unhappy with the features provided. Sure, ...

Summary: The box is a complete lie. Although this router gives you the two connections that most aim for, a lot of people will be unhappy with the features provided. Sure, you can cut people off from your internet, but when you need multiple people sharing the connection, you'll have problems with bandwidth issues. One saps from the other and vise versa - no matter what network you are on, not even the 5.0 GHz network will have priority over the 2.4 GhZ network when the 2.4 Ghz network is being used for webcamming, downloading, and mass streaming.
The things that the router has can be viewed as things that are useful and outweigh the cons of having this router, but in all honesty, if you have any experience with terrible routers then you will know that this is a terrible deal. I myself have fallen for the amateur reviews on this product, and now I have to stick with this router until I get enough money to buy a new one.
You can kick people off your connection, you can block websites, and you can black MAC addresses from other computers. These three things are the only things that the router is useful for, and when you actually need most of the connections open, then you have problems. This router is recommended for only a single person depending on what the router is being used for.
If you plan on simply browsing websites(completely ignoring games or YouTube altogether)then you will not notice much of a difference. If you have a house full of pro gamers and an immigrant who enjoys webcamming with his wife back in the Philippines, then you have an issue with bandwidth being sapped from your "beloved 5.0 GHz that Dlink loves to brag about." It absolutely sickens me that such false advertising actually works.
All in all, do not buy this product unless you absolutely "have" to use it for browsing/business purposes. If you are sharing with more than two people, then the chances of you having bandwidth issues only triples as the more things are done on it. Sure, blocking them can be a quick fix, but what will you say to them after they realise you've blocked them off for good when they need it as well? DLink did an excellent job in producing this router, but this router does not deliver in its expectations.

Dual frequency router, works as directed.
by chipmand on January 6, 2012
Pros: Small. Two WiFi Connections 5 ghz for streaming, and 2.2 for everything else.
Cons: Signal Strength just ok. 5 GHz has lower output than 2.2. Find that bandwidth changes with additional devices on the 2.2 GHz network.
Summary: Works as described. Signal Strength is Okay, not great

I think it's a pretty decent router
by james0658 on December 30, 2011
Pros: Boosted my crappy connection from 65mbs to 144mbs on the intel centrino 1030n which has been known to have speed problems. I really like the design, it's small, and I like the on/off power switch they added kind of nice if you have to power it down.
Cons: The only con I have is the annoying setup wizard, I had to set it up 2x and finally it worked. The instructions say not to remove anything until you install the CD, but at the same time you have to have everything hooked up. The dlink 150 was easier

Summary: All in all the Dlink DIR-815 router is pretty good. Other than the fact of the confusing install, but other than that it works great! I've had a Dlink before and for the price that they charge it's a well rounded buy.(Even at full price) They keep the product quality high and the price down compared to routers from other competitors.

Requires a reset 1 or 2 times a day.
by dons1239 on October 17, 2011
Pros: When working, has the signal range I need
Cons: Cannot stay up. Loses the signal several times a day.
Summary: Signal strength and range may not be worth the hassle of having to reset so often.

Cons: Cant really think of anything. It needs a firmware update to fix some lag on the page for setup. Other then that, nothing really.
