Great router for video and general web browsing.
by ers15 on June 22, 2012
Pros: Fast loading for YouTube, Netflix, etc. Videos never pause or stop to load. Excellent for multiple devices that do typical internet surfing.
Cons: Price is a bit on the high side.

Summary: The bottom line is I've had an Apple Extreme Base Station, two Netgear Routers, and one other Linksys and none of them came close to the performance of this router. I pretty much only use internet for typical web surfing, video watching and iTunes. I can't speak to anything more in depth than that.

Summary: I am upgrading from a Linksys WRT54G and purchased the EA4500 from the Cisco Homestore to handle the increasing wireless devices at home (Apple TV, 2 iPhones, iPad, 3 wireless IP cameras, wireless printer). The WRT54G worked great but I just wanted something faster. Very disappointed that the EA4500 was not able to deliver a consistent stream. I would get internet access for a few minutes, then it would stop and I would need to power down and restart to get internet access for a few minutes with low to no usage. I have Time Warner Cable with very high bandwidth so bandwidth is not the issue.
I spent 1.5 hours trying to figure it out myself. 3 hours on the phone with tech support going through a few levels of support and each of them walking me through the same steps of powering down, powering up, reconfiguring, upgrading the firmware to the cloud, powering up, powering down... After all that, they still could not figure out what the problem was and approved a return. I then spent 35 minutes with Customer Service trying to return the item and getting a hard time from them when Tech Support already approved the return. If you exchange the item, your warranty will be retro to the date of your original purchase and not start over so I elected to return.
Needless to say it was a very frustrating day, customer service and tech support were not good, did not resolve the issue and there were long wait times.

Nice router, better than I thought it would be.
by davidalarson on May 20, 2012
Pros: The online interface is really nice, clear and has an overall good logical menu structure.
I have had 5 different machines streaming video from a connected USB drive, there was very little if any disruption throughout my house on both 2.4GHz & 5GHz.
Cons: Transferring big files to an attached hard drive is slow and does stop others from video streaming.
Make sure the router is demilitarized in your modem and also make sure the DNS is manually input or problems might occur.
Summary: Additional: The online Twonky interface is a cool feature.
This router is really good, seems very stable has not crashed or failed since I got it.

I would definitely shop around for this one. Prices in New Zealand vary by $100 so you could save yourself some money by doing the research first.

Great idea, poor execution, horrible customer service
by pegs1 on June 5, 2013
Pros: nice interface. Just wish it were the router it was advertised to be
Cons: Router absolutely will not support 2 open nat connections to 2 gaming consoles and linksys KNOWS IT. But customer support will still jack you around pretending they are trying to help you fix a problem they ALREADY KNOW THEY CAN'T

Tech isn't helpful, 3hours on phone repeating same stuff to do to it to make it work.... Plus they want you to buy more tech service and or a new router.... REALLY !!!!!! Lets fix the one I got within a year first then build my confidence to want another. Although this would make 2 linksys.... 2 strikes and Im out of patiences. Trying Netgear I hope I get some relief.... If not what is next? Any suggestions

NIGHTMARE Installation for So/So Performance
by MadisonMD on May 6, 2013
Pros: None that I can think of
Cons: Installation is abysmal. Cisco Connect Software doesn't work. Download from website doesn't work. Can't log in to the router.
5 Ghz signal is pretty weak unless you're sitting next to it....so much for the benefits of dual band!

Summary: I have a Verizon FiOS with a promised 50/25 Mbps [down/upload]. I got tired of the crapy Actiontec router that we were given for free, since the Maximum speeds I got was 24/19 Mbps. I found this router at sams club and it looked promising, and the Cnet report made me think it was a great deal. Set up took some time b/c I realized that I had to release my DHCP to add a new 3rd party router. Nevertheless, I did multiple speed tests from all over the house (3 Stories, router on 3rd floor) even in my basement, I got incredible speeds. When I mean incredible, I mean 58/32 Mbps in the BASEMENT! I loved this thing. Then I realized I could not connect 2 xbox 360s in it without one having a NAT error (There is a way to fix this manually if you want). That didnt stop me. I was in love, until 2 days passed...
My speeds then moved to 24/19 Mbps, which was the same for the cheap, old, and reliable Actiontec. Im planning on returning this and getting a Asus ac router. Hopefully, Ill get better results.

Great product for the short live it had.
by aaguila10 on February 17, 2013
Pros: Great speed.
Great coverage.
Easy to install.
Cons: Lack of lights or anything to determine problems.
To delicate.
Summary: After 4 months the router simply stop to work. I think the problem was related to the Flash memory, since the OS stop loading after been reboot.
