The good: The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1750 HD Video Pro EA6500 offers solid performance and lots of cloud-based features. It's also very good-looking.
The bad: The Linksys EA6500's performance with existing pre-802.11ac clients could use some improvement, and the router is comparatively expensive.
The bottom line: With the latest firmware, the Linksys EA6500 makes a decent contender among the handful of its peers.

Easy to setup.... NOT!
by _singo79 on January 22, 2013
Pros: This router is perfect for those with no idea on how to customise a router to do all things you expect it to do out of the box.
The UI steps them through procedures and makes it easier, but not too easy for an average person to be able to set it up.Cons: Wasn't easy to set up at all. I'm using a Netgear DM111P ADSL2+ modem. Instructions are inadequate to get you on the net if you have anything beyond a basic setup.
Summary: This router is nothing like I expected. It certainly doesn't qualify as a top of the range router, given that it hardly performs any better then my old Linksys ...
Summary: This router is nothing like I expected. It certainly doesn't qualify as a top of the range router, given that it hardly performs any better then my old Linksys WRT610N.
The setup disc and the instructions were useless to me, as my setup must be something out of the ordinary. I don't know why that would be, but it refused to recognise my ADSL modem and couldn't get me on the Internet.
After a number of hours of mucking around with settings in the ADSL modem and the EA6500 I finally got the two to place nice together, but it was far more difficult then Linksys would have you believe and far more harder then setting up my original WRT610N.
I have also found that the wireless performance on 2.4GHz and 5GHz in the 802.11g/h bandwidths to be on par, but no better than the WRT610N. Though, since I don't own any 802.11ac devices yet the product may come into its own there, but the vast amount of devices using 802.11a/b/g/n have not gotten any faster speeds using this device.
I am pretty disappointed with the EA6500 and in hindsight I would have stayed with the WRT610N, but sadly that router gave up the ghost after many reliable years of service. I don't hold many hopes for this device or place it in the same league as the WRT610N.
Do your research before buying this router and make sure you weigh up all the pros and cons before laying out your hard earned cash for this device.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Disappointed with this router. Very Buggy.
by sumguyinfl18 on October 16, 2012
Pros: 2.4 GHZ frequency works well and is solid.
Greater range!
Easy to set up.Cons: 5GHZ frequency is full of problems just like the article states. Iphone 5 and Macbook both constantly lose the connection even with full signal. Very frustrating!!!
User interface is buggy and freezes up randomly when updating settings.Summary: Half of the routers functionality works great. The 5GHZ side is completely unusable. I like the functionality of the router and what its potential is. I just hope Cisco can ...
Summary: Half of the routers functionality works great. The 5GHZ side is completely unusable. I like the functionality of the router and what its potential is. I just hope Cisco can get the firmware figured out soon so that the router is fully functional. I am debating on returning this router unless Cisco releases an update ASAP.
Well there have been three firmware upgrades in the past month. Glad to see Linksys realizes their problems and is actively trying to fix the router.
I would not recommend buying this router until Cisco can release new firmware that fixes the 5ghz issues and makes the user interface more stable.
This CNET review is dead on in accuracy. Glad the article came out today as I was going crazy all weekend to figure out why I was having connection issues. Thank you CNET for allowing me to stop troubleshooting.
Updated on Nov 1, 2012
With the updates I have seen a lot more wireless stability. My computers and phones do not lose their connection anymore and the transfer rates are back to where I expected.
There are still some bugs when utilizing the user interface. It sometimes hangs up on pages. But it is not as common as it once was.
I have decided to not return this router as it is improving and the remaining problems with the router are minor.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

If you love doing constant hard resets this is for you!
by mggcb on March 4, 2013
Pros: Very fast when it's working
Relatively easy to set upCons: Locks up 2 or times a week and needs power cycling
Locks you out of GUI 2 or 3 times a month and needs a hard factory reset to restore
Firmware very buggy-google to see the number of problems out there

Summary: I have owned this router since Nov 2012 and until Cisco resolve these issues I would suggest you don't waste your time. Just do a Google search and you'll see what I mean. You'll save yourself a lot of grief in the long run.
Customer support is virtually impossible to reach and I have been on hold for 60+ minutes on multiple occassions before giving up.
I own multiple Cisco products and have always considered them a reliable brand until this router, at $200 it should work!!
But enough is enough and unless Cisco fix these issues soon, the EA6500 will regretfully be consigned to the trash heap.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: In all, my review of this router is a 5 star. It is one of the easiest routers I have setup. It took me less than 10 minutes using my MacBook Air. Accessing the router settings is simple from home or abroad using the Linksys cloud. I can access the settings from my computer or when I am on the road using my iPhone. This router is replacing my Linksys E4200 v2, which was a good router as well. This router seems to update its firmware automatically and from reading the reviews that may have been the problem with any loss of connection and or poor performance. I utilize the 5.0 GHZ band with no problem, and I have the option to use the 2.4 GHZ band as well. Be aware that some devices do not support the 5.0 GHZ, such as the iPhone. I would recommend this router to anyone who is serious about setting up a great home network system.

Great features, poor performance.
by dejoyf on October 15, 2012
Pros: All of the features you look for in a state-of-the art wireless router, including dual band, high bandwidth, local LAN/USB ports, remote access. Also, great form factor.
Cons: Most features didn't work properly. Basic wireless router capability barely functional.
Summary: I agree with the CNET review. This product is not ready for commercial launch.

I returned my Linksys EA6500 and substituted with a NetGear R4500 which has the same features and actually works! Only drawback of the Netgear R4500 is its size.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

It delivers solid performance with good signal strength
by techgeek6969 on April 26, 2013
Pros: - very good signal through out a large home
- very fast speeds
- solid performanceCons: - no indicator lights to see if its fully booted up other than the logo that is solid when booted up

Disappointed
by Tootsiegirl60 on March 31, 2013
Pros: When it holds the connection it is fast, even when someone is gaming on the xBox and three other computers are on the network.
Cons: It didn't set up easily and kept losing the internet signal (I have comcast). Put my 10 year old wireless router back online and ta-dah I have internet again. It runs hot, and the average user would not be able to configure it manually.
Summary: Extrememly disappointed in this router as I have sworn by Cisco/Linksys for years. It goes back tomorrow.

Get DSL speeds from your high-speed cable modem

Summary: I needed to upgrade my router when I upgraded my cable connection speed to 50/8. I got my EA6500 set up and did a speed test, and it was great - I was getting the full speed of the cable connection - actually closer to 58/9mb, since they overprovision. That's the good news - you get great speeds for the first five minutes or so after you connect. After that, the connection was getting momentary drops and the speed kept dropping. After a couple hours, my speed is now usually below one mb/sec. The VPN connection to my workplace can't stay connected for even an hour. With my wrt54g, it stayed connected for weeks at a time. I've followed Linksys's advice to put it in a more central location in the house (which was never necessary with the wrt54g) and change channels. Changing channels seemed to help initially but I soon realized it made it worse.
Dropping the wireless connection and re-establishing it brings the speed back up again, but not for long.
Surprisingly, upload speeds don't seem to be affected as much. Typically I can get 5-8mb/sec, even when download speed has tanked.
Wired connections consistently get the full rated speed of the cable connection and then some.
I've given up on this thing. I'm now using my wrt54g again until I decide what I'm going to buy to replace this. -
5 star router fits the bill,I couldn't be happier.
by olmgirl on January 6, 2013
Pros: This router handles our homes 5 iPhones,3 desktops, 2 laptops, 1 Ipad, 2 Smart TV's, 2 x-box, 1 PS3,2 wifi printers, and 1 wifi blu ray. Seamless set up took 15 min to get it up and running and connect all wifi products to it. EASY..
Cons: My kids would say the con is that I can use the app to see who is on their phone or computer or video games at night and when I am at work. It is wonderful for me and I can disconnect it if I wish right from my iphone.hehe I dont have one bad thing

Summary: After 11 days of using this router I am so happy. The biggest Con for me is after I purchased it I read the bad bad reviews and almost took it back. Due to time restraints I went ahead and hooked it up (with ease) and am so happy I did. It hasn't given us any problems at all. The signal goes through my 3200 sq-ft home just fine no dropped connections or lag what so ever. Love the app and the guest wifi set up. I cant comment on the support because I was able to set everything up with out it in no time at all. This is the real deal, simple set up, and will handle all your wifi needs.

Kills my Nest, range unimpressive
by DrDieder on December 15, 2012
Pros: You can access it from anywhere? I guess that's positive if it were my parents' router.
Cons: Dumbed down interface is so basic that many needed features are not configurable. No "classic" interface to fall back on.

Summary: This router was purchased with the specific goals of future proofing and getting more range/speed for streaming to the living room. I HATE the new cloud interface. Sure, it's pretty, but all of the gritty, down to business settings that routers had for more granular setup are gone in favor of this pretty but dumbed down UI. Apple has done a similar oversimplification with the airport extreme, and so the switch was from one frustration to the other. Since switching, the router is not implementing some power management settings in the tcp/ip standard correctly (PWM) and so it is keeping the Wifi connection on the Nest active at all times, draining the battery until it disconnects. I'm going to have to take this aggravating router back to the store. At least I got it locally. Also, don't be fooled by the promise of "apps." There are about 4 of them, and they are all doing functions that should be built in by default. None of them solve my needs for advanced features either.
