Network magic conflicts
by janitorman on July 21, 2010
Pros: Works... but DON'T use the CD or software that comes with it, it will mess up your wireless devices.
It creates conflicts and is pretty useless unless you PAY THEM for it.Cons: WINDOWS and most laptops with wireless already come with the software to connect. DO NOT INSTALL the network magic software included, it will mess up your wireless software already included with windows or your laptop.

They should NOT include this network magic software with the package.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is a great basic wireless N router at an affordable price. I don't understand these 1-star reviews, they seem to be people who didn't know what they were getting and were expecting too much.
If you run a business, this is not the router for you. This is a router for a simple recreational home network with a couple of computers and a device or two. The average consumer doesn't need a router for a dozen different computers and devices. The average consumer doesn't need to worry about "Stealth" Ports.
It took me about 10 minutes to get my wireless network set up and running on two laptops, an Xbox 360, and two iPod Touchs.
The software that comes with it guides you through everything. Just put in the CD, follow the instructions and you're done!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Stable, but limited.
by pdkitchen on August 12, 2012
Pros: Good solid signal.
Easy to configure if you have a basic network knowledge and can read instructions.Cons: Reset button does not reset!
Network magic software not necessary.
No support for multiple SSID's (Wireless networks)
No support for multiple encryption levels (legacy devices on WPA2 networks)Summary: Generally solid and stable router with basic capabilities, but be aware of a few issues/limitations.

If you ever need to reset the router back to default settings, you need to unplug everything from the router and then plug in the power and network cables one at a time WHILE holding in the reset button! I dont know if this is a problem with ALL WRT120N routers, but it is certainly documented elsewhere on the web and I found this method after hours of frustration over the failed reset.
We found that our iPad occasionally 'forgets' the wireless signal to the WRT120N and requires the password to be manually entered to allow authentication back onto our wireless network.
From www.cultofmac.com: "According to Apple, the iPad might not automatically rejoin known WiFi networks using third-party routers that are dual-band capable (802.11 b/g and 802.11 n) when each band's network uses the same name or use different security settings."

The WRT120N does not support multiple SSID's, so the fix suggested in the above link does not apply to this device but may shed some light on a known issue.
The WRT120N also does not support legacy security on a WPA2 network, which means there is no availability to devices that are only capable of WEP to allow connection to the existing WPA2 network, some might say this is a better security feature and I tend to agree, however if the WEP device is not upgradable then you either need to reduce your overall network security on the WRT120N to 128 bit WEP(bad idea), or upgrade to a wireless router that has this feature so you can retain the best levels of security where possible.
I still use this router on my home network and am happy with its overall stability, however after spending time troubleshooting and researching the device I have found it is better to know its limitations and live with them or possibly look at upgrading in the near future. -
DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP!
by derbysig1835 on May 27, 2012

I will rather recommend other competitive brands for it.... -
Nice little router.
by Airrun19 on January 3, 2012
Pros: Decent Range
Decent Speed
Does what I ask it to do.
Good priceCons: I've only reset the router manaully 4 or 5 times in a 12 month period, only to gain a fresh new signal. Other than that, I have had no issues.
The other cons people have seem to be user error.Summary: Currently this router is running the following at my home, with a 3.0 DSL speed...

- Dish Network DVR Receiver
- SlingBox

The router does seem to slow down alot when I get on the slingbox. At that point the 3.0 speed really isn't enough to run the slingbox and notebooks via the router at the same time. Not the routers fault. It takes alot if internet to run a slingbox and this router does just fine.
I have not had one problem with this router. Like someone metioned here....bypass the install software. You should log right into the built in IP address the router has. 192.168.0.1, here you can charge the SSID and passkey directly. -
It actually deserves a 0-star rating...
by maruda11 on December 31, 2011
Pros: Nothing....
Cons: Disconnects daily; have to reset everytime. Very poor connectivity, mine is only a home connection, 3 laptops
Don't think it costs 40 as pricetag says, once you buy it and install software, you'll find out its trial and have to buy the full, extra 25Summary: A product with no value for money. You're better off using a different, tried and tested model.

Why can't we rate it 0 stars?
by sweetnlow44 on December 18, 2011
Pros: Pros? Haha, yeah right.
Cons: Absolutely cannot hold a connection. Log in with one device and all other connections are lost, have to log back in. I wish I would have read all these comments before wasting time, money, and sanity on this utter piece of sh*t!
Summary: Avoid this router at all costs. Got a Linksys based off of it's good reputation, but will not buy a Linksys product ever again. It baffles me that they ...
Summary: Avoid this router at all costs. Got a Linksys based off of it's good reputation, but will not buy a Linksys product ever again. It baffles me that they conscientiously put out a product as bad as this. Can they even call this a router? They need to change the label on the box to say "Part-time router, can only rely on it to give you fits because it won't work when you need it to."

Gargarge, Junk, Waste of time

do not buy
by boromil on November 8, 2011
Pros: it's cheap and looks nice
Cons: drops wireless connection all the time - setting routing to RIP mode helped a little but then my VoIP gateway can't login to the VoIP provides server (btw the gateway is also made by linksys) so all in all it still sucks
Summary: it's a waste of time, money and it causes high blood pressure due to being annoying as hell
