My WRT310N runs perfectly!
by ezrider on January 30, 2011
Pros: Version 2.0 is highly reliable and just works! Have wired, 302.11g and 302.11n WiFi devices and it handles all effortlessly!
Cons: Only 4 ports for wired connections.
Summary: I replaced a 2Wire router with this WRT310N and have been happy since. The 2Wire required weekly rebooting, but my Version 2.0 WRT310N is rock-solid. I reboot it once ...
Summary: I replaced a 2Wire router with this WRT310N and have been happy since. The 2Wire required weekly rebooting, but my Version 2.0 WRT310N is rock-solid. I reboot it once a month as a preventative measure, but it has not missed a beat as my prime router connected to my Comcast cable modem. I highly recommend the Version 2.0 as a rock-solid router for your wireless network. My Windows Vista PC has a gigabit network card, and is blazingly fast! Netflix streaming video via Sony BD player connected via 802.11g connection works great!

Great Router... I would Highly recommend.
by wompuscat1965 on December 31, 2010
Pros: Easy Set up.. My laptop is about 60 feet from the router, it connects very fast with very decent speeds.
Cons: I've been dropped a few times.... I'd say maybe 9 or 10 times in close to 2 years.. I can't really complain.
Could be the heat problem that CNet mentions.Summary: If something happened to this router I would try to find another just like it... When all my kids are home we have as many as 5 laptops and 1 ...

Very nice nothing to cry about
by Simonchouine on December 2, 2010
Pros: First of all it's not getting hot for me. The wifi is fast and stable (I never get lags). The router in general is perfect. I tought it wa spretty expensive but for what I got with for money it's alright.
Cons: Nothing at all

Ok when it works...
by dc55110 on November 30, 2010
Pros: Decent speeds, when its not dropping the signal.
Cons: Frequent (several times a day) signal drops, often needing to be reset. Poor signal strength when working, very weak signal only a few rooms away. Runs very hot, I had to rig up a cooling system otherwise it was too hot to touch.
Summary: This review is a little late, but in general the mid range Linksys routers are mass market junk.

Summary: Ok, I admit that one of the first things I did was flash this router with DD-WRT, a third party firmware that replaces the original firmware. Maybe that makes all the difference. But I'm not experiencing *any* of the problems others are reporting. It never crashes, wireless is really fast (I'm able to stream 1080p video with 6ch sound to a media player about 30 feet away) and it doesn't get hot *at all*. All in all I'd say it's the best router I've ever had.

Has been great for 21/2 years without any problems.
by bull221 on September 11, 2010
Pros: My first router, set it up using the provided software..my laptop and desktop picked it up right away as did my grandsons' XBoxes and Playstations & my Wii. I never turn it off unless my son reminds me to something about some sort of address.
Cons: Nothing.....never a problem. Doesn't get terribly hot as it is well ventilated where it sits.

Summary: I read that this guy gets real hot, so I got a cheap laptop fan set off of eBay ($4) and used it under this router in hopes of it not getting so hot = lasting longer. At first real fast speeds, good and no hiccups. After about 3 weeks it just got slower and slower, reset it a few times but the problem persistes...thankfully Best Buy gives me a month to test it out cause its going back to them tomorrow.

Over 1 year slow speed and poor tech support
by oldtech45 on August 29, 2010
Pros: No external antenna
Cons: Tech support after 1 year - told to use their website or pay for support.
Slow speed on wireless direct output was approx 10mbps on desktop computer, wireless output about 3mbps.Summary: How can you trust a company that won't help you on a simple issue that the product is designed to handle? I liked the product and thought it was ...
Summary: How can you trust a company that won't help you on a simple issue that the product is designed to handle? I liked the product and thought it was great. I called my internet provider because they had some local problems for a couple of days but the problem was not on their end is was with the router. They stated that a lot of issues are found to be on the router side over time though they did not single out a particular company. Dropping from 10mbps to 3 and getting poor support has caused me to not recomment this company anymore. This explains why I had to purchase a range extender earlier this year for an area that was working previously.
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Cisco
- Part number: WRT310N
- Description: The Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G. With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds far faster than standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band. To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at faster than 10/100 wired network speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires!
