Easy set up; powerful connections

Pros: So simple and easy to set up - even adding wireless and security; Love the simultaneous dual band!
Cons: so far not a single one

Summary: I dreaded setting this up after the fiasco with the Belkin N router that would never work with most of my wireless devices unless I left security off. Connected the cables/cords, powered up, slipped in the disk, clickety click a couple things, password for security, ta-dah! Can use a flash drive (your own, not supplied) to set up other devices or just search for network, add password, and DONE! Even the PS3! I can even add a shared external drive via usb on the router (haven't yet, but love the opportunity for added storage for all) Can set up each device on regular or 5g so far everyone in the house has remarked on the speed of loading pages, etc. Even the 9 yr old computer on the wired connect seems faster so it will take more work to convince hubby to upgrade with a new one. Simply love the router!

Terrible product loses connectivity constantly
by LoganB1960 on October 16, 2011
Pros: Fairly easy set up.
When it works it works to spec.
Cons: Breaks connectivity constantly; forcing frequent re-set and 6 re-installs in 6 weeks. Neither Staples nor Netgear will refund money. They advertise interoperability with ATT; ATT does not recognize them as an approved device or partner.
Summary: I paid a premium price. I spent an inordinate amount of time troubleshooting the problem. I have a vendor, Staples which refuses to take responsibility; a supplier,Netgear, which expects ...

Specs are good but let down by unreliable firmware
by itsbebbo on May 14, 2011
Pros: Handles multiple open ports and heavy throughput with ease.
Simple user interface.
Wireless seems to be stable and quick
Cons: Unreliable internet connectivity, loses connection and requires a re-boot
Firmware seems rushed lacking basic features available in older DG series routers
Port Forwarding options rely on memorising a pre-assigned machine IP as opposed to setting machine
Summary: Received the router less than a week ago and was initially impressed with its speed and simplicity to setup. Unfortunately in the last few days I have had too many ...

Summary: Received the router less than a week ago and was initially impressed with its speed and simplicity to setup. Unfortunately in the last few days I have had too many internet disconnects to count. The ADSL line shows as connected but the login to the remote server simply stops showing it as "off" in the status window and therefore your internet connection is off (Shows an assigned IP of 0.0.0.0). No manner of clicking Connect works as the router shows an error on the box and only a re-boot works. This is an age old issue with Netgear firmware that is normally sorted out, oh, in say around 12 months or so... Guess where mine is going...

Setup wizard made initial setup a total breeze.
by on May 8, 2012
Pros: 5 Ghz frequency support on top of 2.4 Ghz provides support for future WIFI devices operating at 5 Ghz.
Construction of the unit looks to be of high quality plastics.
Built in antennas, so no external antennas that can get damaged.
Cons: Labelling for LEDs in the front very small, so hard to easily see what the LEDs are displaying.
Unit looks quite a bit larger than other wifi router modems on the market - maybe it's due to the dual antennas.
Summary: Haven't had it long at all but the out-of-box experience was very positive as I could get the unit connected to the internet in less than 5 minutes and ...

Summary: Haven't had it long at all but the out-of-box experience was very positive as I could get the unit connected to the internet in less than 5 minutes and the WIFI performance to my iPhone was markedly better than the old Dlink router that I replaced. Maybe the early firmware versions were problematic, but I've not had any reliability issues so far.

Fast device, easy setup, rock solid.
by w3w0 on January 27, 2012
Pros: Was extremely easy to set up with Qwest (Centurylink). Gigabit ethernet, dual band simultanous 2.4 and 5 GHz. Very flexible/comprehensive configurability. ADSL has been rock solid for 1 week since purchase.
Cons: I haven't found any.
Summary: I initially had reservations about buying this after reading several early user reviews saying that the ADSL WAN connectivity was unreliable and required a reboot to reconnect. Then I found ...

Summary: I initially had reservations about buying this after reading several early user reviews saying that the ADSL WAN connectivity was unreliable and required a reboot to reconnect. Then I found reviews that said the connection problems were solved with the recent firmware update so I installed the new firmware first thing. I have found with the new firmware the device is rock solid. I have been watching the log on the device and in the past week it has had 2 internet connection drops (WAN), each for no more than 10 and the device reconnected all by itself.
I would have no trouble recommending this device to anyone looking for a high speed combo unit that pretty much does it all!

Needs reboot every few days or hours.
by cranaghanstills on December 7, 2011
Pros: Lots of features.
Fast wifi.
Good clear UI.
Cons: Disconnects from WAN every few days or hours. In this state, telling it to reconnect doesn't work: it needs a reboot.

Good features, horrific functionality
by bobobobobb on September 28, 2011
Pros: Does everything (well... tries to).
Wireless functionality seems good.
Cons: Had serious issues connecting to the internet at all. It took hours to connect, then eventually failed to connect entirely. I don't know if mine was just faulty, but other reviews have cited firmware issues too.
It is infuriating to use as it insists on
Summary: Certainly not the "Ultimate Integrated Home Gateway" as they claim. Seems to have been bodged together by idiots intent on jamming as many features in as possible, without any consideration ...

Summary: Certainly not the "Ultimate Integrated Home Gateway" as they claim. Seems to have been bodged together by idiots intent on jamming as many features in as possible, without any consideration for functionality or reliability. I've now replaced this with a DGN3500, which does nearly as many things, but works flawlessly.

Fast good spec but drops connections regularly
by enakn on June 10, 2011
Pros: Has a wireless on/off switch
Supports 5Ghz
Gigabit Ethernet LAN
Cons: Drops connections all the time on normal ADSL (reverts IP to 0.0.0.0 but keeps connection) and then needs reboot
Wireless on/off switch needs to be held down for ages
Summary: If you want USB files-serving and a wireless on/off switch then this router is a good choice, but don't buy this router if you want constant uptime. Sadly ...

Very customisable, lacks Airport Extreme's range.
by TantrumV1 on April 21, 2011
Pros: You can tweak every setting, unlike Airport Extreme.
It has an easy (if ugly) to use setup portal.
Handles 10 users, 25 devices with ease.
Wall-mountable.
Better network quality than Airport Extreme.
It has all the bells and whistles you could want.
Loo
Cons: Lacks the range of Airport Extreme.
Base stand is hard to pull out for wall-mounting (pull it out really, really hard said the customer service rep).
Summary: A great modem if you really want control over your network. Although, you might need to buy two if you have a large house, and create a WDS. It really ...

Summary: A great modem if you really want control over your network. Although, you might need to buy two if you have a large house, and create a WDS. It really decreased my ping problems with online games when 10 other people are online through the same router. I consider it a step up (small if anything) from the Airport Extreme.
