My Netgear Router is unable to connect to the internet
by diegobeltran on March 5, 2012
Pros: Faster when it works, but does not work much.
Cons: -Unstable connection or no connection at all
-Netgear support does not want to help me further without charging almost as much as a new Router would cost me.

Summary: My main problem is the fact that the Router, both my original purchase as well as the replacement (RMA) I received do not work. It worked fine for a month and it was great, then it just stopped working. I have an old Lynks router and it works fine (slow, but fine) with my both laptops, desktop, and Ipad, but the Netgear Router is unable to connect to the internet and contionusly has IP conflict issues. I have checked the internet connection by connecting directly via my Ethernet cable and it works fine. As such, since another Router works fine and the internet connection is fine, the Netgear Router must be the problem. Netgear support experts seem more interested on what I am going to say in the survey and transferring me to premier support than in helping me, but I did manage to get my original purchase replaced and the new router also does not work.

Easy toe tip worked really well for one month!
by jimn on February 26, 2012
Pros: It was really easy to setup without additional software. Handle the dual band really well and had good single. Strength. Installed at aother family members house. I was impressed given the price.
Cons: The router lasted. One month. And then quit. No amount of coaxing could even it get it to point on being able to connect to an Ethernet port. Worked with netgear support for half an hour. They agreed the device., I can't wait for amreplacment.
Summary: Nice device. Short lfespan. I replaced with another brand. I have another dead router to add to my collection. Theis one being honored as having the shortest life san. No ...

Summary: I purchased this model based on good review after being a Linksys customer for many years. I figured I give it a shot since the price was good for the touted capabilities. I purchased the it yesterday. After working for over an hour on what was supposed to be an easy install, I couldn't get it to work properly. I got it to connect to the internet, but the connection was horribly slow. So slow that the Genie tool (14.4MB download) took 48 min. Ridiculous!!! Even the Google page took forever to fully load. Anyway, I called support and after registering the unit, I got redirected to the help desk. The "engineer" directed me to change some minor settings on the router. After proving useless in solving the issue, the guy said the problem was my ISP and to call them. NONSENSE! This router is a replacement of a Linksys that works flawlessly on the same network with same settings. I went back to the store to exchange the unit, thinking I got a bad unit. I tried to install the new unit. This time I can't even connect to the router via Ethernet cable. Called support again, and after registering the unit (again) I got transfer to tech support. The tech asked me for the serial number again and then said his records indicated the router was purchased last October and the warranty had expired! If I wanted support I had to pay. SAY WHAT! FORGET IT! Too much hassle and I still don't have a working router. So... back to my trusty Linksys. This one goes back to the store tomorrow!

Summary: OK, this comes with all the bells and whistles. Setup is easy but there's a problem that keeps popping up. Of all the routers I've owned I've never had one so prone to dropping of signal like this one. I've moved things, swept the area for errant signal interference for other things and it just drops signal. I've read from others that this is pretty common so if you don't want to go crazy just purchase something else. This has problems and the problems are not worth the dollars.

Summary: I upgraded my router. Fell for this one @ Fry's. Now I am thinking about falling for her younger, newer sister (Netgear WNDR4500 N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router). I will keep this one as a backup. I am trusting that her younger sister will not make me partition my 4TB USB Hard drive into 3 parts. I will keep you posted...

Summary: To begin, I purchased this product to update my previous Netgear product. I went with brand recognition and really believed that this was the best product out there. However, if you have more than a couple of wireless products in your home, or older computers/software, perhaps this product isn't for you. I believe that may be the reason for ANY positive reviews for this Netgear router.
Our network consists of two iphones, a wireless printer, two desktops, a laptop and a nook color and after SEVERAL calls to Netgear tech support, this network never really fully functioned. I was losing internet connection and network connection intermittently. The complete lack of competence of tech support was amazing. I was finally told by one tech that something must be wrong with the router and to return it to Walmart since it was recently purchased. Well, the new router was having the same issues. Finally, after being repeatedly asked to put the installation CD in the computer - this product has NO installation CD - I gave up and promptly took this router back and replaced it with the comparable Cisco product. I had this new network up and running within 30 minutes.
There is no way I would be able to recommend this product to anyone. -

Summary: Bought this last march or april when my last netgear wireless died. Having had that unit for 3 years with no problems I gave it a go, biggest mistake I ever made. Was easy to set up, had some issues at first with dropped connections but it settled out. Worked great for a few months then all of a sudden it drops connection multiple times a day and must be reset 5-10 times before it will connect again. Tech support is a joke, outsourced to god knows where and all they ever want to do is sell you a support plan, I am not paying $100 for tech support on a $75 router. As soon as funds allow I will go get a cisco router, screw netgear.

Summary: I'm somewhat of a novice with this kind of stuff and when my old router took a dump anxiety creeped in at having to get another and go through all the setup etc. Can't believe I had this router out of the box and on the internet in 20 minutes. Then I had to reconfigure my Cannon MP980 wireless printer to recognize it. Heck, that took longer than the router setup. But it all worked out and everything is running just fine. It's been 10 days and have not experianced one problem. So far, so good.
I really would suggest if possible people go online and read and download the complete manual as it gives much more info on set up than the quick start card.
