Summary: As a consultant I have set up around 10 to 15 of these for client sites as I have been picking them up for screaming deals as refurb products. I have not had a single defective unit, and none have failed during firmware updates.
The versions I have used were mostly v2 and v3 products, though I setup another v4 model today. All have been flashed immediately (manually, not automated to firmware versions released in the last half of 2005) and subsequently reset and configured.
I have run across two sites (both residential) where people had interference issues, but in one case a v3 router solved the issue (severely congested area) and in the other case two Linksys products had severe issues as well. On the other hand, I have also used them in congested areas to replace routers such as a Dlink DI-524 which could not be configured to function reliably.
I think this is a great product and they have worked spectacularly for me and my clients, but I do a more advanced setup than the average user including scanning the area for busy channels (using my WG511T) and configuring the router appropriately to avoid channel traffic. From the looks of other reviews these may not be the best plug and go products for non-technical users.10 out of 11 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This has to be the worst product I have ever owned. If you install the software, you are inviting nightmares with inconsistent performance and dropped service. Not installing the software makes this product a little better but than you are not getting the security. Absolute worst product ever, drops service all the time.
Updated
I replaced this POC with the Linksys WGT54GS about 6 months ago and could not be happier. I have not had one reset, drop, etc since installing it and I have to say, after the frustration I had with the Netgear, I am glad I got rid of the POS. The Netgear had major issues ranging from slow speed, inconsistant service, and multiple issues with other wireless products.8 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Netgear is going down the tubes

Summary: I have had this for about 4 days. Let me say the first day i had it i was up and running in about 1 hour with my machines either connecting 54 Megs or 108. I was loving life. In the morning however all my machines lost their connection. I have all different wireless cards 11b, 11g, 11superg and they all quit. Well after having to reset this baby i was up and running again for a whopping 4 hours then i had to reconfigure all my crap again. It fluxuates from 54 meg (on my 11g) to 1 meg! This is horrible. I am actually in process as i write this of running a hard line. I did a bit of research and saw complaints on this firewall earlier but i put it on user error. Now i see that it is a poorly designed machine. I know some of you say what if its interference? i have checked and run my 11b router and everything runs fine. So i think netgear's quality might be slipping. I still like them and am writing this product off but i still like their other network products. Especially their biz stuff. Anyway stay away from this product, i would suggest checking out other firewalls i have wasted too much time on the promise of wireless. My old wireless router is great for surfing but for real biz nothing beats cable

I knew about the problems other people were having and knew what settings to use so I thought I would be ok. Netgear products have been good to me in the past.
However, this router only worked ok for a short time. After the first week, I noticed that the router was kicking me off fairly frequently so I kept tweaking the settings to reboot the router and get my connection back.
Somewhere in the second week, the wireless portion of the router just stopped working. I spent about 20 hours troubleshooting this router. I tried multiple network cards, had the latest updates, disabled any security settings, and still ended up taking it back.6 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

Firmware Updates Destroy Router

Summary: I installed a firmware update by hitting the "Yes" button on the router's admin screen to download and install the latest firmware (i.e., this was not user error in installation). The so-called "update" rendered my router totally and unrecoverably nonfunctional.

Keeps disconnecting--pay the extra $20 and get a quality router
Pros: Easy to set up and use (as I'm sure most routers are)
Cons: Keeps disconnecting me. Do NOT buy this product.

Good at first, but bad later on.
by TheSolipsist on March 7, 2005
Pros: 1.) Installation was a breeze; it took no longer than 10 minutes to get my network running. 2.) Wireless signal does not interfere with my 2.4ghz phone (luckily). 3.) Good range and speed.
Cons: 1.) The document is blatantly written without much consideration for beginners. 2.) Occasionally resets itself. Resets itself more when my ZoneAlarm Firewall is on.

Summary: Somehow, I just don't know how hard it is to make a great router. I mean, this product has great potential, but it's lousy because of constant dropped connections. I don't know much about Netgear's tech support, but from users' opinions, they seem highly unreliable. Hope a firmware update will fix the dropped connections issue. This product would deserve a ten if not for the dropped connections.

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhUpdated
After using the router for more than I month, I have noticed several aspects about this router. For instance, the configuration page is buggy, so for you power users out there this may be frustrating. In addition, I noticed that if you keep the router on Netgear's initial setting it will function properly for a while at least. People who say this router is spectacular are either dumb@$$'s or really smart. Just stay away from Netgear. There are plenty of alternatives. Linksys would be a robust example.4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

bad technical support
Pros: I bought my WGT624 2 months ago and it was easy to set up, also very fast in speed but I suppose every product in this price should have the same standard. The router website didn't have too many thing to play with, nice and simple.
Cons: Last week, I log in the router website again and it ask me to update the firmware. Half way through, it hang up and the router was no longer work. I check on the internet and realise there are many people experience the same problem. I then phone to the

Summary: It's my first router, but I have so many problems with it, mainly a few games I like to play. First is Starcraft, an old pc game. It lets me host games, but I cannot join games. It is an hardware issue from what I have researched on the web.I am hoping there will be a firmware update to fix this. Also it works horribly with my Nintendo DS. I can connect to the NWFC, but I cannot connect with players 40% of the time. I also hope Netgear addresses this.

No gaming support?
Pros: It is easy to set up.
Cons: Starcraft only supports 1v1 multiplayer (which works fine) ... but, any more players and lag comes to an unplayable level. I had setup an armagetron server and it worked fine with multiple players on it, but when I upgraded the firmware, it completely bro
