Dropped signals fixed with firmware upgrade
by myeshuae on March 16, 2010
Pros: Dual band! N and G separate but, at the same time. This is a great router.
Cons: You MUST download a firmware upgrade to avoid dropped signal. We covered the blue light on the box cause it was kinda bright.
Summary: This is a great addition to our home network.. And definitely better than the free wireless router from AT&T.

Junk - they want to SELL their SUPPORT service
by IL2GA30016 on March 10, 2010
Pros: This was my first wireless router. The pretty blue light is about the ONLY thing I like, and that's NOT why I bought it.
Cons: Needs repeated resetting. 90 day warranty. Gets too hot, likely causing malfunctions.
NEVER again will I buy Netgear - they have lost me as a buyer for anything they manufacture. An expensive lesson learned!Summary: Requires more work resetting, rebooting etc and dealing with their support staff than it's price tag is worth. Summary: Requires more work resetting, rebooting etc and dealing with their support staff than it's price tag is worth. Their paid support service costs as much for one year as the router does to buy - and that is what they really want to sell. Thankfully I was smart enough not to buy it.

Perfectly fine performance
by mebearcub65 on March 2, 2010
Pros: As long as you are patient, read the instructions and pay attention to what you are doing, you can set this up in no time and it works just fine. I get wireless in my yard and driveway now. What more do you want?
Cons: The disco lights can get a little much, but it's no big deal.
Summary: I just needed a simple wireless router for my home to replace the dog that came with my wireless service provider. This did the trick and everyone in my home ...

Thes are crap. Two died in less than 1.5 years.
by dgbauthor on February 8, 2010
Pros: None that I can speak of.
Cons: Product stops passing Internet connect through to PC after less than a year of use. Replaced & second unit started doing the same thing about 9 months later. Off-shore support is horrible. Spent over 6 hours with them constantly repeating same thing.

Summary: 1. The first unit stopped passing Internet connecttion even though it indicated all was well. I tried troubleshooting, but could not get it to work. Long story short, it took 3-4 e-mails and 4 phone calls totalling well over 6 hours to finally determine what I had already discover with less than an hour of work: The unit was defective!
2. Second unit died with same problem 9 months later.
3. Off-shore support is horrible! Here are just a couple fo the ludicrous things they expected me to try. Replace the power adapter (like I had a spare available; oddly enough I did and it didn't change anything); try a different power outlet when the temporary router worked in the same outlet; different network cables (again the other unit worked fine with the ones I was using, but I humoured them and replaced them anyway.)
I work with computer systems for a living. I realize they deal with some stupid people, but their ability to troubleshoot over the phone was terrible, redundant (I had to repeat the same tests each time I called back), frustrating (they refused to replace the unit until I did as they instructed over an over again), and far from customer friendly!
I will be staying far away from NetGear from now on. I see this as a $180 learning experience. I wouldn't walk across the street for one of these routers if they were giving them away. -
does not stay connected

Summary: Talked to the corporate office and got the same run around that the tech gave me. not interested in the problem. I had to call three times so I could understand what they were saying. They say that it is the best out there. I bought a linksys router and adapter works good so far.. The adapter should have workd with linksys but had the problem that it would not connect at all. so I had to buy an adapter also. Netgear knows the problem but does not want to fix it.

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy this router

Summary: This product caused hours of frustration for me and my family. As other reviewers have stated, the signal drops constantly- 4-5 times per day in my case. If I reset it, it would work for a while, only to drop the signal a short time later. I have a Netgear Wireless N USB adaptor for my laptop which was abolutely no help with this router. I upgraded the firmware but didn't get any better results. I took it back without even trying customer service because I had already wasted too much time with this device. I bought a Linsys Wireless N and have not had one dropped signal in over a week. I get 3-4 bars connectivity in places I would get 1-2 with the Netgear, and the same USB adaptor works better with the Linsys. There may be other routers as good as Linksys, but there can't be any worse than this Netgear device. I find it hard to believe that this is still in stores- I didn't do my homework before I bought it- it was about $30 cheaper that the comparable Linksys. Spend the extra money- you won't regret it.

by ALJ2 on December 31, 2009
Pros: Dual Band Capability.. Guest Wireless
Cons: Drops DSL and has to be re-booted (mannually). Has a wierd wirelss problem and drops wireless connecgtion when out of the same room with the router

Summary: Had the first unit replaced at best buy. Netgear support on the phone for hours trying to resolve. Gave me a case number and when I called back they lost it. Send a RMA, but it never arrived and they wouldn't resend the RMA. Gave me another case number. Manager called back (busy) and indicated they would replace the router within 10 days of receiving the defetctive one that I had to ship at my expense. For $10.95 they would advance exchange (I still Paid shipping. Took it back to the store and got a replacement. After being a Netgear user for 4 years, if this fails, I am moving to Linksys (CISCO).

Worked for six months. Connection consistenly drops.
by Deadsnow on December 29, 2009
Pros: Worked good for a while.
Cons: Consistently loses connection. My PS3, laptops, and finally my wired PC have all lost connections. 90 day tech support is worthless. Have to be about 10ft away and in line of site to establish wireless connection. Tech support has not answered emails
Summary: I will probably go with a linksys or D-Link router the next time around. The disco ball on the front of the router is annoying as hell. The lights serve ...
Summary: I will probably go with a linksys or D-Link router the next time around. The disco ball on the front of the router is annoying as hell. The lights serve no purpose than to annoy you. I have tried to turn them off but they always come back on. That is the least of my worries since my family is looking for me to fix it or buy a new router. Hopefully tech support can eventually solve my issues if they ever email me back. FYI no usb or gigabit lan.
