Tech support is clueless.
by innocent_victim on February 7, 2012
Pros: speed ok. and works fairly when connected.
Cons: WiFi security does not work with Xp. Seems to connect ok with netbooks and tablets and Ipads. Used to connect to XP ok, but not anymore. No one can tell me why. WiFi security does not work properly.

Had to implement hardware firewall with unsecure access to get all computers connected securely. Been to the store several times and appear to only be interested in phones.

Stay away. Connection is constantly in and out
by boilermaker23 on September 14, 2011
Pros: Can get connectivity on the road (albeit spotty)
Cons: - Connectivity is in and out
- Pretty much has to be tethered to computer to work. It rarely generates a reliable wifi signal.
- Whenever I did get a wifi signal, I would get maybe a minute or 2 before I had to reboot or tether to my computer.Summary: Stay away. Not worth the hassle. Spend the extra $10-$15 a month on a cable connection.

fivespot turns off by itself
by mwells44 on September 7, 2011
Pros: I can use this anywhere I can get a verizon signal. Quicker then sat and cheaper then sat
Cons: Shuts off by itself and have to take out the battery for abouut 15 seconds then put it back in to get it running again. BUT I figured out when and where and why it does this. At home I have a marginal signal that works ok but must overload it as it gets

Drops Connection!!
by europa56 on June 23, 2011
Pros: Small, very portable, access anywhere - when it works
Cons: Powers itself off FREQUENTLY! Was great when first purchased, still great - when it's not powered off!! Evidently there's a trick to getting it on and keeping it on. You have to wear red pants on the fifth Tuesday of the month and turn counterclockwise
Summary: Buyer beware .... very cranky device that's great when it works ........

Summary: Verizon knows this is a bad product and is unwilling to help me. I was told by a Verizon sales rep. that I could call customer service and file a complaint; but as of right now Verizon is not doing anything to rectify the issue. So I am stuck with a poor quality product that the company knows about and I am paying for each month for the poor service.

Device powers off by itself. Replaced 3 times!
by pkumarbiz on June 9, 2011
Pros: When it works, provides satisfactory connectivity via USB wireless link to my desk top operating on Windows XP. Just one button to turn on and off. (see cons)
Cons: Pain in the neck! You have to hold the one button down for just so many seconds to power on in the wifi mode. Otherwise it turns on and shuts off. Then you have to reset it by pressing the one button 10 times within 15 seconds. Sometimes when the batt

Summary: I had no problem in with first device. It worked well then it just stopped working. It was no doubt defective. I returned the first and was sent a second "certified" device. This device would not connect to my netbook. Spent 5 to 6 hours on the phone with Verizon trying to get the second device to work connect. It would not. Verizon's Customer Service was less than helpful. Ignoring the fact I had spent hours on the phone trying to be "satisfied" with the second device. I was eventually told I had 14 days from the receipt of the first device to let them know I was not satisfied. Well unfortunate for me it worked well for over 14 days. I was told by Verizon "Customer Service" if I refused a third device and returned the second I would be breaking my contract. DO NOT PURCHASE.

Summary: had problems installing and got someone at the store to do it for me - had for 5 weeks and stopped working - took it back to the store and got told I had to contact customer service, knew what THAT meant, spoke to 3 different tech support people who tried various versions of the same thing and all told me the same thing in the end-MY equipment did not support Verizon technology - when I questioned why it worked for 5 weeks on 2 different manufacturers laptops, i got silence-then i had to push the issue to get a "new" one - received a "refurbished" 5 spot-oh, after 2 WEEKS, you can only get a refurbished replacment and you only get ONE replacement PERIOD-could not install again and again night time tech support told me it was my equipment-called back during the day, spoke to someone else who spent 1-1/2 hrs with me to get re installed on 2 laptops-only to discover that now it no longer works wirelessly-again got told it's my equipment-and i use both laptops wirelessly most of the time-Verizon needs to STOP telling their customers the problem lies with the customer's equipment and own up to THEIR problems-this is the seond time Verizon has told me that the problem lies with my equipment-not the 1st time i've heard this about their tech support either-stuckwith the thing now-DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE GET IT

Great Product, great coverage!
by kalkavekkian on February 25, 2011
Pros: Great coverage, good speeds, works well with wi-fi. Light and easy to carry around.
Cons: Set up is a little tricky. Prepaid data plan is too $$ for half the data as the contract plan.

Summary: I have 2 homes and was fed up with satellite and dialup is no longer an option. This gadget is a godsend for us as we have 2 imacs, a laptop and 2 iphones and use a lot of data. 10 gig plan at $80 is not out of line. This works very well in the house with our home network. Being in the country we don't have high speed internet options other than satellite which turned out to be a real pain and basically non-functional about 50% of the time. Verizon coverage in this area (southwest mi) is second to none. This unit works on wi-fi much further than i expected. If you place it near a window the signal is very strong. I can go anywhere and it works when i need it to. Thats more than i can say for the other carriers coverage "claims" Set-up is a little annoying being assigned a cell# but once you do, it's a breeze. At least now you don"t have to have your phone with you like the older ones. I would like to see an external antenna that you could plug into these. With an outdoor antenna and some weatherproof coax this would be the answer for the many people in the country who are getting ripped off by satellite companies. Verizon are you listening??!! Even so this still works much better than anything i have seen yet. All in all a great mobile and home device alike.

Faulty product and terrible service by Verizon
by penguin3332 on January 30, 2011
Pros: Nothing - except the size
Cons: Unit will not deliver Wi Fi signal. Extremely difficult setup protocol.
No service from Verizon carrier.Summary: Terrible product with glaring defects.
Internet forums are filled with complaints about Fivespot connectivity (and setup problems).

Internet forums are filled with complaints about Fivespot connectivity (and setup problems).
If you work at it long enough you can get it to connect, but then no Wi Fi signal is generated.
Verizon will give you the run-around until your warranty expires (30 - 60 days) - then you are stuck with a worthless device (and charges for the data plan). If you want to spend several weeks chasing an obvious bug and getting no service from Verizon, then this product will make a challenging hobby.
Should you happen to buy a FiveSpot, GOOD LUCK - you are going to need it.
