Very Cool, just wish it were a bit smaller BUT a HUGE COSMETIC IMPOVEMENT for XM
by billybronc on April 4, 2008
Pros: Color Screen, Split Screen, Very Sturdy, Very Nice Looking
Cons: A little bit too big and still uses the clunky looking car cradle from past models.

Summary: IT WAS ABOUT TIME XM STARTED PAYING ATTENTION TO THE LOOK AND STYLE OF IT'S RECEIVERS! Why do you think Apple is leap years ahead of other companies in the mp3 field, because they paid attention to the cosmetics of their product from the start. We have the older Xpress in our other car and this one is much nicer. The older one works great, is very user friendly, sturdy and easy to navigate but just looks cheap. I LOVE XM but have always been jealous of the much cooler Sirius tuners. I had a Pioneer deck with XM in my last car and it worked great but lacked some key features like seeing the channel number and info at the same time, the Xpress RC has so many lines of info it's great. I wish the album artwork showed up in the background instead of generic pics but I'm being picky. It is incredibly sturdy and easy to use and it just looks SO COOL! Wish it would lose maybe 2 character lines and had a new sleeker car cradle (instead of recycling the one's from past models) to make it a bit more car friendly but I still LOVE IT.
This is a very nice product in every way.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I have had this device for about 3 days, but I have put several hours adjusting, setting, customizing all that I can find on it. I have been more than pleased with what I've noticed. I'm going to just fire away as I think of it, and if it's a bit of a jumbled mess, I apologize...
Still love this unit. I have also added the "best of Sirius" package to my account, and since the merger, the icons have changed - but, they are still in color. The only very minor knock I have on the Xpressrc now is that there sometimes are "loading" delays, probably due to the new information the unit has to process with the newer channels. Not a big deal, but be aware that there are going to be delays every once in a while.
First, the display: The screen can be split into two windows or one big window with all the infomation, all in color. The XM icons are in color with each channel having cool backgrounds that are very neat and a great improvement over any other XM receiver. The screen isn't huge, but it's still fairly large relatively speaking. That said, be careful where you mount the display. I have mine near my gear shifter, and it's a little hard to see in split screen mode. If you have space near your dash, you're set.
Secondly, the sound: I was very concerned that this unit would sound sort of average as a plug and play. I have mine using an auxiliary input on my head unit, and I think this is a must. I was debating between using an FM modulator or FM direct connection, and I used an auxiliary adapter for my JVC head unit. I was told the auxiliary adapter would give a more rich sound, and this was correct. I can't see the FM Modulators getting it done. By the way, you have to use either a cassette adapter or a direct connection of some kind because this unit does not wirelessly transmit an FM signal to the head unit on a specific frequency.
Next, the features. The 60-second rewind is a nice feature for obvious reasons. I discovered something else that makes this different than what people think is good about TiVo (the TV counterpart). On a TiVo or any other DVR, you can rewind live TV back an hour or so as long as you stay on one channel. On the XpressRC, you can rewind for an hour but it will rewind for an hour regardless of what channel you were on. So if you jump around on your channels, you will be able to hear several songs back regardless of how many channels you've visited.
Another feature is the TuneSelect feature where you get to save a particular artist or a specific song to your favorites list. If either the artist or the specific song comes on anywhere on XM, you will be alerted with a very unobtrusive tone, and you can hit the XM button to switch to that channel where your artist or song is. It is in the documentation that you can actually save 10 songs in their entirety and recall them at any time. I have yet to do that, but that would be another fantastic feature.
GameSelect allows you to input your favorite teams in virtually any college or pro sport, and when those teams are playing, you will again be alerted and you can switch to that channel.
Lastly, the layout of the buttons on the unit. The buttons are a bit small, and it's a little difficult to work with without looking. Be careful, as with any radio, while your automobile is in motion....I know - duh.
Do I recommend this - an absolute "YES!!!"

Great, until the warranty expires
by cdeguelle on August 23, 2010
Pros: Great radio.....for the first year
Cons: The XPress RC has known issues with the backlight failing at about the same time the warranty expires. We contacted Delphi and were told there was nothing they could/would do and that our best option was to just buy another radio from them.
Summary: Buy a cheaper model from another manufacturer. Delphi customer service is terrible and their product isn't worth the money.

Loved it until it failed
by gregogc on January 16, 2010
Pros: Easy set-up, excellent display, showing channel, artist, song, even release date sometimes. Can display 1, 2 , or 4 channels at a time, preview other channels, or scan by genre. Even found the rewind/replay useful. Nice little unit, but...
Cons: Screen locks up, especially in the coldest weather.

Summary: Occasionally, esp in the cold, it display would freeze on first song at car startup. Had to shut it down (shut off car or pull plug) to re-set it. At 1 year, 12 days it froze again, but now it won't re-start. Jeez, do they put a timer in these things to die as soon as the warrranty runs out? If not for the failure, I'd call it a 5 out of 5. Failure makes it a piece of crap.

Pretty little piece of JUNK.
by brianjason1982 on December 21, 2009
Pros: It looks good. Screen would look great but, I can't see it.
Cons: I've had my radio for 7 days. Brand new. Sealed packaging. It went to complete black screen in 4 days. The power cord and cradle is fine. The fuse is good. The radio isn't worth buying. As well, DELPHI won't exchange it for me.
Summary: Do not buy this radio. Ever. If you know someone who has one and it works fine, trust it will stop soon. You though, will be happy you saved yourself ...

Freezes and loses all of its presets
by madtownjr on July 30, 2009
Pros: Looks great. Easy to use and navigate
Cons: My radio freezes up. It freezes on one channel and can only be turned off by unplugging the unit. This wipes out the station presets and resets the radio at its factory defaults. This happens to my radio everyday and I've had it less than a year.
Summary: Loved the radio before the problems started happening. Now its almost unusable as it freezes too often to make it worth using.

Very, very nice tuner
by JLuong22 on February 6, 2008
Pros: Beautiful color display, filled with features
Cons: Tricky to push control knob while driving, can't choose which saved songs to delete
Summary: This tuner is as pretty as it looks in pictures. The display is beautiful to look at (even though it doesn't show actual album covers).

It has some awesome features, such as the long 60 minute playback, the ability to display what's playing on other stations, the favorite song/artist/sports team alerts, and the ability to save 10 songs for later playback. My only gripe about the features is that you can't choose to delete a specific saved song. In fact, it automatically overwrites the oldest saved song once all 10 spots are filled. So if you recorded a song you later don't want anymore, you'll have to erase all the other songs you recorded before that one, before you'll be rid of it for good.
The controls and navigation scheme took me a little while to get used to because this is my first satellite radio unit, but it may be more familiar to the seasoned XM veterans. It is hard to select something the XM button on the 5-way control dial while driving. I often accidentally move the knob to the side instead of actually selecting. But I just stick to the remote anyways.
All-in-all it's a great tuner and it's even better if you can get it for under $150. -
Best in home and in car mobile XM device
by thatchman1 on January 28, 2008
Pros: Super yummy bright crisp color screen
Cons: Questionable FM RF broadcast strength
Summary: The unit functions intuitively as compared to past Xpress, Roady or Skyfi2 devices from a menuing perspective. The buttons may seem a bit small for some fingers.

Reception seems typical/as good as other devices, however, the ability to RF broadcast on FM (not directly wired in to your radio) seems weak. Even driving around my town, I find the need to change channels on which it broadcasts.
The screen is absolutely beautiful. Very colorful and bright enough even during daylight.
The unit does produce more heat than expected, however, is not more than warm to touch.
For a mobile unit that isn't a walkman style, I would recommend this under over any other XM mobile unit available. -
great gadget !!!

Pros: Able to review other stations without changing what you are listening to.
Cons: only 9 presets for a service with 170 plus channels

Summary: I have had XM Satellite on my GMC truck for a few months now, and am pleased with the service. I have been researching for an option for my wife's Nissan Maxima. Unfortunately her Maxima is not set up for XM, and we had to go with a device such as this. We are really pleased with the options of the Xpress RC and it has a bright colorful screen. Especially like the ability to view songs on 3 other stations while listening to the current station. My wife likes the favorite song/artist option(total of 12 favorites). The device will beep when one of her selected songs/artists is on another station and show the station. You then push the selection button to switch to the new option. We also bought a home docking station and are able to use it in the house. Surprisingly the antenna works great inside the house, facing South. We live in a rather large two story home and have not had any trouble using the antenna. I am not sure how hard it is to install; as I had it installed by Best Buy. They did a great job and it looks great. Only problem is occasionally will loosen from the base and then you must remove and reseat it, in order for it to reset and work properly. All in all we are both very satisfied with the Xpress RC. Only thing missing from XM is NFL coverage and was quite surprised the College Bowl Games were not covered; eventhough, they have channels for each conference.
