Still going strong after 10 years!
by ranst4038 on February 6, 2012
Pros: Rugged and long lasting!
Cons: Noisy fan that I didn't think would last long by the sound of it.
But after running all day every day for 10 years it still sounds the same as the day I bought it.Summary: I bought the auto package & 2 house docks back when XM first appeared & there was only 2 different receivers available. Both exorbitantly expensive. The receiver has gone from ...
Summary: I bought the auto package & 2 house docks back when XM first appeared & there was only 2 different receivers available. Both exorbitantly expensive. The receiver has gone from car to house to motorcycle to cabin and been used 6 to 8 hours a day for 10 years now with no problems. So I would have to say I got my moneys worth, $300 divided by 3650 days = $.08 a day.

Sometimes it is best not to listen to critics
Pros: I got a great deal on this, incl car kit and home kit for $130. It is easy to use and is nice and compact. I really enjoy this product.
Cons: Remote could have been designed better.

Summary: Try to read this display while you are driving... then again don't. Just got my Sony stolen. Funny thing is that the thief will never be able to activate. Go for one of the 2-piece units, check out the Pioneer. It appears to be more legible, and looks less like something that should be stolen by a non-tech-saavy thief.

Summary: If you're looking at this receiver, you're probably asking yourself "Is XM really worth it?" And the answer is "defintely yes!" I've had it for about 6 months now and I can't imagine what I was doing without it. They've got great programming, almost no commercials, and endless variety. The one thing that made me feel secure when I bought this reciever was the price they're going for on Ebay. Even if you don't like the service, you can sell it again and get lots of your money back. I couln't imagine more of an incentive to give it a try...

Summary: I have this model and love it. I use it in my work truck during the week, and my personal car on weekends. Recently, I drove cross country in a rental truck and due to it's portability, I brought it with me. The writer that said it is hard to change channels is an idiot! The unit comes with a remote. I set the presets to a few stations that I like, and just flip away without ever taking my eyes off the road.

Summary: Yes, the Sony has the problems mentioned- diplay is hard to read, could use more pre-sets. But I am amazed that they get all the electronics into such a small package. Dropouts do occur, but are relatively infrequent and don't really diminish the XM experience. If you like quality radio, there really is nothing close to this. This is a very good first generation product, and the Sony portability is a plus - I have the home kit also and it works perfectly with the antenna sitting on a bureau next to my window.
